Rhino Rack WP Crossbars

Padded Carrier

Rhino Rack WP05 Carrier

These pads wrap around most crossbars to provide a resting place for your surfboard, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), or other gear during transport. And tie-downs let you secure your gear to your roof rack.

Easy Installation

Wrap the pads around your crossbars and secure them with the Velcro closure strips.

Rhino Rack Wrap Pad 5

Adjust the closures so that the pads are snug and won't slide on your crossbars. Load your gear on top of the pads.

Rhino Rack WP05 Strap

To secure your gear to your roof rack, thread the tie-down straps beneath the pads and secure them on top of your boards with the cam buckles. Integrated sleeves cover the buckles and protect your board and vehicle from getting scratched, and Velcro strap keepers hold the ends of the straps so they won't flap in the wind.

Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack SUP and Surfboard Pads with Tie Downs Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rhino Rack Stand Up Paddleboard and Surfboard pads with tiedowns, part number RRRWP05. The Rhino Rack watersport pads are the quick and easy solution for safely transporting your gear on your existing roof rack system. They're going to fit most roof rack system including your round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems as well. You can see we've got it around the Rhino Rack Vortex arrow bars here today and it fits nicely. It simply just goes around the load bar and then connects to itself with hooks and loops. In addition to our two pads, we also get two cinch straps, and those are going to measure about 137 inches long by an inch wide, so we know we're going to have plenty to work with when we're strapping down our board. It also features a rubber pad around the cinch to help protect our board so we don't scratch the finish.

There's also a strap keeper to tidy up our access or to bundle up the strap and keep it together when not in use. I've gone ahead and removed the stand up paddleboard so we can get a better look at the pads. The padding on the inside is made of an ethylene vinyl acetate, so it's going to help absorb the physical shock and the vibration while we're driving with our watersport carrier. It's covered by a UV resistant polyester canvas, so it's going to stand up to the elements and remain that nice black finish. The whole pad measures 33 and a half inches long by three inches wide by two inches tall, and it's going to cover up most of our roof rack, as you can see here. It's going to provide excellent padding between our roof rack and our board. Now that we've gone over some of the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. As you can see, I've already got the rear pad installed nicely on our Rhino Rack crossbars here.

Let's go ahead and open up our hook and loop fastener on the underside of our foam pad. Get it all opened up so it looks about like that. Then we'll simply place it on our load bar or crossbar, and you can center it up and match it up with the other one. Then what we'll do, why don't we just do it this way so you can see it a little bit easier. First one we're going to bring around, the first flap is going to be this one here, and then we'll simply bring the other one up underneath of it and connect it together. We're just going to work our way down, making sure that it's got a nice snug fit around the crossbar. I'm going to move on over to the other side and continue working my way down.

As you can see it's a pretty simple installation. You just want to make sure it's got a nice snug fit around the crossbar. That's about it. Now with our two Rhino Rack foam pads in place, we can grab our paddleboard. You want to make sure there's nothing in the way. As you can see, on this particular vehicle I've got an antenna that's sticking up, so I'm going to remove that, and now we can grab that paddleboard.

Set it in place, and one thing you want to make sure in doing, when you set it up here, is you want to make sure to distribute the weight evenly, that way you have a smooth ride and make sure that it's all centered up. Now we can grab those straps and tie it down. The way these are going to work is you want to take the open end, come around underneath the crossbar and underneath the pad portion here, and bring it over the top of the paddleboard, then bring the other end over and then run over to the other side and pull those tight. Then we'll take the open end again and come under this portion. Once again, trying to keep the strap as close to the paddleboard and underneath the load bar as possible, as you see here. With all this set up over here we'll take our strap and run it through the cinch. I'm just helping it along to tighten up. You want to make sure, like I said, to have it as close as possible. We'll run over and check that other side. Run it underneath, that actually looks pretty good. After we've got that nice and tight, we can bundle up our excess and then we can use the keeper on the strap to keep all that nice and together, just like that. Now with everything all strapped down, as you can see, it's a fairly easy installation, and we could be on our way in minutes. That's going to complete our look at the Rhino Rack watersport pads with tie downs, part number RRRWP05. .

This was another fine purchase from The roof rack fits well and looks great, although I guess I should expect that for its price. Also, I ordered it on June 11 and it arrived on July 5, which was a lot longer than I expected it would take between order and delivery. In any case, I find the etrailer website to be very effective and the selection it offers rather outstanding. I plan to continue to be an etrailer customer. 401949

These are still securely on my racks and cushioning my surf boards well. However, they did faded significantly from the sun which is a bummer. I had been parking in a garage. Moved, and had to park outside for 4-6 months until another garage became available. In those winter months where the sun was less strong, the pads faded. All that said, the sun is strong in Southern California. 436945

I plan to use the pads to tie my Hobie kayak to the roof of my van. They appear to be well made and should last for a long time. The straps that are delivered with them are very nice. 237654

I have ordered from etrailers several times. They have always been helpful patient and knowledgeable. I come to them first. 510948

I haven't used them yet, but they were very easy to install. 269368

Theyre great. Faded in color though

Julie D - 07/08/2017

Good stuff, super quick and easy to put on and off since I didn't want to keep anything perminant on my roof racks this worked perfect 346388

This is working out great for me. I use it when I take my kayak out. I don’t keep it on my car every day, so it was important to me that it can be put on fast and taken off fast which it does great! So I just Velcro it on and I’m good to go! The straps it came with work perfect with my kayak I have a large two person. I would defiantly recommend this and purchase it again

Dana S - 02/27/2018

Great product works great for our SUP, very satisfied. 396326

Well made product. 4 stars only due to being over priced. 579487

Love the Rhino Rack. It took 10 minutes or so to read and understand the installation instructions. A few more minutes to lay out the parts and translate the instructions to three dimensional understanding. Ten more minutes and the install process was complete. A two person installation is best. Use the rack several times each week for surfboard transportation. 460124

Awesome product. Perfect for my Toyota Highlander for our kayak and paddle board and. Easy to put on and take off and gilded gear even better than I hoped for. I'll be ordering another for my Jeep Cherokee soon. HIGHLY TECOMMENDED. 390691

Therefore, I cannot recommend using this carrier with a SUP. I recommend the Rhino-Rack SUP and Surfboard Pads w/ Tie-Downs, # RRRWP03 at 21-1/2 inches long or # RRRWP05 at 33-1/2 inches long. The pads come in two different lengths depending on the width of your board. The Thule carrier can be loosened to move the out of the way....
