Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer.com and today we are looking at our Malone Standard Foam Block Kit for stand up paddle boards here at etrailer. This is a great option if you want to carry your stand up paddleboard. And if you have crossbars or if you want to put them on your naked roof. This is a nice and affordable way to carry around your stand up paddle board since it comes with two blocks and tie down straps. One nice thing to note is how it is designed to be flat compared to other foam blocks which are curved for kayaks.
So this is ideal for when you carry around your paddle boards. Now, while this closed cell foam that it's made of is nice and durable, please note that this does have a weight capacity of 55 pounds. Now we're going to mount our foam block and what I like to do is use my Moki Door Step just to get some extra leverage and height, which you might need on your taller vehicles. You get up over there and install them onto your crossbars. Depending on your crossbars this may be a little tricky to set up at first because you need to grab each end and then wrap them around your bars.
That's why, if you do have a taller vehicle it really helps to get some height so you have that extra leverage, but we have them on these square bars, just like that. Once you do have them installed onto your crossbar so you can slide them back and forth just to get the best fit for your paddleboard. Let's take a look at some dimensions. So the one we have right here is 24 inches long and we have it on square crossbars and it sits one inch above our crossbar. We have them on square crossbars but they also fit onto round and most factory oval crossbars.
The blocks are made of a very thick and dense foam. So you can see how as I try to apply pressure to it it doesn't really give as much, which means it will provide a great support base for your paddle boards. The bottom is lined with this anti slip surface. So how that works is if you want to put it on your roof and you don't have crossbars, you can do so and it prevents it from slipping off your roof. These blocks come with two tie down straps.
So let's take a look at how we strap this paddle board down. Some people strap things down differently but what I like to do is just pass the strap underneath the crossbar first and bring that through. Then do the exact same thing on the other side. Now feed it through underneath the crossbar here, bring your end up through the soft liner and then through your buckle and then tighten it down. Once you have that tightened down, make sure that the soft liner is facing your paddleboard just to protect it during transport and tie off the excess. And you are good to go. Now, my final thoughts about these foam blocks is I like how they're designed, especially for the stand up paddle boards, it comes complete with your tie-down straps and your foam blocks. Now, if you are also carrying around a kayak, or possibly will carry around a kayak, then you might want the ones that are for both the kayak and the paddle board. But if this is all you need, this is a great option for you..
Sturdy and long-lasting. I use this with square roof rack bars and also directly on a Jeep freedom top. I bought this set because of the low profile - it adds only 1 inch above the roof rack, so allows me to drive into the garage with my wing foil board and carry case on top.
It works great!! Thanks for your help.
Perfect for my needs!
