Most brake controllers stick out and take up knee room, but this one tucks the main unit behind the dash. All you see is a small knob on the console, just 1-7/8" long and 9/16" wide. It looks like a factory switch instead of an aftermarket add-on. The knob handles it all—adjusting brake power, manual override, and troubleshooting with color-coded lights. The controller meets UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 safety standards, so it’s built to stay secure and out of the way.
Sand, mud, or steep descents can make towing unpredictable. With off-road mode, you set how much braking force your trailer gets instead of relying only on your tow vehicle. Keep it light in soft terrain so the trailer doesn’t dig in, or turn it up on steep grades so it doesn’t push you downhill. A quick double tap on the knob activates the mode, and the LED glows green when it’s engaged.
Jerky braking disappears with proportional control. A built-in 3-axis accelerometer senses how hard you’re braking and matches the trailer brakes to that input. Ease onto the pedal and the trailer eases in; brake hard and it responds just as firmly. It works with electric or electric-over-hydraulic brakes on trailers with 1 to 3 axles (up to 6 brake assemblies). The result is balanced stopping power and less wear on your whole setup.
No need to splice wires or cram a big box under the dash. The plug-and-play harness connects directly to your vehicle wiring, and the main unit can mount almost anywhere within reach of the 3-foot cable that links it to the knob. Use screws, tape, or zip ties to secure it out of sight. Once installed, calibration happens automatically as you drive—no extra setup needed.
The controller runs on both 12-volt and 24-volt systems with an output voltage range of 9V–32V and a 25 amp continuous rating. That means steady braking power even under heavy loads or long downhill grades. It’s backed by a 2-year warranty for peace of mind wherever you’re towing.

And today we're taking a look at the vehicle-specific wiring harness, that will work in conjunction with the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller. These harnesses are going to be great to work with your Tow-Pro Elite in a variety of different trucks and SUVs. Now, make sure that you get your vehicle-specific harness. You're going to want to use our fit guide on "etrailer.com", and that's going to make sure that you get the right harness, and that way your install goes nice and easy.
Included in the REDARC kit, you will find this plugin adapter, and this is going to have these spliced ends, and you're gonna have to tie into your brake signal, your brake output, your power output and your ground. Now, if you are pretty handy with electrical, that's awesome. That's great. You can use this. But I'm the kind of person, plug and play in OEM kind of setup or really nice factory one like this.
This is the vehicle-specific harness. So this ties in directly to our factory tow system, and clips right in, it's got this nice braided sheathing on it, to kind of protect the wires, and then it plugs directly into our module here. So, to save yourself a little bit of headache and time, and make the install go that much smoother, and not have to worry about loose connections, I highly recommend getting the vehicle-specific harness. So this end of the plug is specific to your vehicle. As you can tell, it looks like the factory plug, it fits in perfect, has the locking mechanism, so you aren't gonna have to worry about loose connections happening with your plug, and it's going to make install a lot easier.

That’s awesome to hear, and that setup looks great too. That Mini Lite behind your Grand Cherokee is a really clean combo. I love hearing how it’s actually performed for you out on the road, especially in those “oh man” moments where things could’ve gone sideways. 12,000 miles without issues says a lot. Really appreciate you taking the time to share that, and the photo too. What kind of trips are you usually taking with it, more long hauls or just getting out on the weekends?

My Redarc Tow Pro Trailer Brake Controller seems to switch on and off a lot. It always recalibrates and comes up working, but the frequency of the on and off again factor concerns me. Thanks for the inquiry!

Pulled my enclosed cargo trailer 4800 miles this past year moving to Texas. Trailer brake still functions perfectly. Im sure it will work with other trailers in the future as I will now sell my 20cargo trailer.
