Question:
Hi, I have a 2017 Toyota Tundra and the factory trailer brake controller does not work. I’m wondering if I can get an aftermarket that plugs into the existing wiring under the dash and will it then bypass the factory one? Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can Dave! The best option to add a brake controller, with a plug in adapter, to your 2017 Toyota Tundra is to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # RED72CR.
The Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED72CR is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Tundra. The Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob.
The included adapter will connect directly to the plug underneath your Tundra's dash and give you an easy install.
I recommend adding the Mounting Panel for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Control Knob item # 331-TPSI-002. This is designed specifically to fit in one of the knock out panels on Toyota vehicle's dashes.
