Is There A Square Mounting Panel For The Redarc Tow Pro Liberty Brake Controller

Updated 01/13/2026 | Published 01/10/2026

Question:

I want to purchase a Redarc liberty controller for my 2025 tacoma. The mounting panels for the liberty are rectangular but my removable panels in the dash are square. The only square one I find is for the Elite model. Reviews show this not to be a good option. Do you have a square panel for the Liberty? Thanks

Hey Michael, thanks for reaching out. So, there isn't a square panel for the Redarc Tow Pro liberty controller, so if you want to use that on your 2025 Tacoma, you will have to do so without the panel.

That said, what you can do is get the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR instead of the Liberty. This will allow you to use the square panel # RED48FR for the knob. The Elite controller can absolutely be used on your Tacoma. Some might consider it "overkill" for a Tacoma, which is why we don't list it, but it comes with the same universal harness as the Liberty, so it can be installed the same way and will work great. You just probably won't use the user control offroad feature, but this way you can have the square panel and keep that nice factory look.

The initial insert I received was the wrong one for the Highlander '19. Etrailer was very good about supplying the correct insert which did fit. Because we were on an expedited time schedule for an extended trip I didn't have time to install the replacement. Etrailer was extremely prompt but the redarc controller was a very last minute installation just prior to a planned departure. I ended up taking measurements of the Toyota console and quickly drew a FreeCAD drawing, printed up a 3d ABS version of the insert which worked very well on over 4000 miles of poorly maintained gravel roads in the far north. When we got back I compared the replacement we got to the 3d printed version and they were less than 1mm different, so I'm pretty sure the correct part will work from Etrailer. I suggest before you order pull out a blank and take a caliper and measure the inside dimensions and the cover plate dimensions and compare that to the specs of the insert you are thinking about getting from etrailer. I think you'll be pleased with it as long as you get the correct one for your particular panel. There are two versions one square and one rectangular. the '19 Highlander uses the rectangular.

@WalterR Thanks for taking the time to share all of that detail, it’s really helpful. Very cool solution with the 3D-printed insert, and impressive that it held up over 4,000 miles of rough gravel roads. We also appreciate you calling out the difference between the square and rectangular versions for the ’19 Highlander. That tip about measuring beforehand will definitely help others make sure they order the correct insert the first time around. Nice work, and thanks again for the great feedback.

I used the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty brake controller on my Toyota Sienna. Ordered the Square control knob dash mount to go with it. It took a few annoying modifications to make it fit the dash knob for the Liberty Controller, but it has worked flawlessly and looks like factory control knob in my vehicle. Also, placed the controller behind a panel to left of the left foot pad. So much simpler and neat then under dashboard for this vehicle.

I installed the Red44fr on my 2017 Highlander AWD along with the RED48FR adapter which, beyond a bit of effort to mount the panel, worked very well. The REDARC44FR has been flawless in some 5000 miles of towing. It works with the adaptive Cruise Control on the Highlander i.e. ,when the brake lights come on, the redarc applies the brakes. I'm very happy with my choice!
