The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR will go into a sleep mode when there is no trailer connected to the tow vehicle. This sleep mode is displayed by a breathing blue light on the push control. The breathing blue light is simply a gradual fade from bright, to dim, and then off. The sleep mode allows you to retain all of your saved settings.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get ride of the breathing blue light unless you unplugged the controller which would then cause you to lose all of your saved settings. The only brake controller we have that would not lose your setting after being unplugged is the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. The settings for this device are saved onto the mobile phone rather than the actual device.

@SarahG Hey, Sarah! If you're referring to the blue breathing light on the Redarc then yes, the light will always be on as long as it's plugged in.

@SarahG Usually if it's a solid blue light it could mean that there is some form of a fault or issue. I'm not sure if you have towed with it before but I'd check if there is constant power to the 5 o'clock position on the vehicle 7-way. That pin is what carries the signal to your trailer when you hit the brakes in your vehicle. If you don't have the tools to check that easily, you can plug in your trailer and check your brakes to see if they are engaged. If that all checks out, I'd try the process of changing the mode. Should be page 17 of the instructions. Step 1 - Rotate the knob fully counter-clockwise Step 2 - Apply Vehicle Brakes Step 3 - Double-click the knob (two pushes within 1 second) Step 4 - Release Vehicle Brakes If the knob is still showing up a solid blue, you can reply to the email notification that you get when I comment on your comment. It may be a little easier for some back and forth and you will be able to send me some pics if needed. I guess another good question is if you have towed with it yet, did everything behave like it should? I also included some troubleshooting links below. One for brake controllers specifically, and another that just goes over some wiring info. I use it a lot so I don't mix up my colors or pin locations. Let me know what happens!
