Brake Controller Wiring Location on a 2019 Ford Ranger

Updated 07/28/2025 | Published 03/18/2025

Question:

I watched the video of installing a Redarc brake controller on a 2019 ford Ranger. My vehicle has the tow package with the 4pin and 7 pin outlets but in the video it shows a bundle of wires to hook up to the controller. I bought the controller but while starting to install I dont see any wires like in the video, is there an adapter? Where do I wire it.

Hey M, thanks for reaching out!

Since you aren't seeing wires like what we show in the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR install video on a 2019 Ford Ranger, are you seeing a plug anywhere? The wiring is tucked up pretty far into the side panel so you might have to do a bit of digging around in order to find it.

Worst case is you take your Ranger to a Ford dealer or shop to find the wiring, but I'm pretty confident if you move some wiring around you'll be able to find it.

Feel free to shoot me any photos of what you're seeing and I can take a look!

Hey Jon, Just bought a controller from you all and it will be here Wednesday. I poked my head into the footwell and I do see 4 wires that are caped with shrink wrap, but no blue tape. I have a yellow orange and a black/green that appear to be about 14 AWG. The white looks to be 16 AWG and the violet /white looks narrower, possibly a 20 AWG. Regardless, I have no blue wire. Is it possible the green/black is to be used in lieu of the blue? 2019 Ranger SCREW Lariat FX4. Thanks.

@ClayG I tried looking up the wiring functions in the online owner's manual, but I didn't see anything. I would think you can just swap out those wires, but it would be best to use a circuit tester to make sure you match the functions up correctly.

@JonG, Thanks. I crawled under the truck and looked at the back of the 7 way. The green black is on the correct pin for 12V to the trailer brake. Thanks!
