Video Transcript for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness Review

Brad Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the vehicle-specific wiring harness, that will work in conjunction with the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller. These harnesses are going to be great to work with your Tow-Pro Elite in a variety of different trucks and SUVs. Now, make sure that you get your vehicle-specific harness. You're going to want to use our fit guide on "etrailer.com", and that's going to make sure that you get the right harness, and that way your install goes nice and easy.

Included in the REDARC kit, you will find this plugin adapter, and this is going to have these spliced ends, and you're gonna have to tie into your brake signal, your brake output, your power output and your ground. Now, if you are pretty handy with electrical, that's awesome. That's great. You can use this. But I'm the kind of person, plug and play in OEM kind of setup or really nice factory one like this.

This is the vehicle-specific harness. So this ties in directly to our factory tow system, and clips right in, it's got this nice braided sheathing on it, to kind of protect the wires, and then it plugs directly into our module here. So, to save yourself a little bit of headache and time, and make the install go that much smoother, and not have to worry about loose connections, I highly recommend getting the vehicle-specific harness. So this end of the plug is specific to your vehicle. As you can tell, it looks like the factory plug, it fits in perfect, has the locking mechanism, so you aren't gonna have to worry about loose connections happening with your plug, and it's going to make install a lot easier.

And that was a look at the vehicle-specific harness for the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller..

2023 Ford Bronco

Perfect for installing my RedArc TowPro Elite in my 2022 Ford Bronco. Plug and Play - Note: In order to be a Plug and Play install, Your vehicle must already be equipped from the factory with the Towing Package, which means that it is PRE WIRED for the Trailer Brake Controller and there will be a large rectangular plug for the TPH-007 harness to plug into. If your vehicle was NOT equipped with a factory tow package, this connector will NOT BE THERE and you will need to run wires to the TowPro unit using the basic wiring harness that is supplied with the TowPro and you will need to run a trailer brake output wire to the rear of the vehicle at the 7-pin connector port.

I love redarc! Their products are simply the best out there. I run these on all my tow fleet. They are smart and learn your vehicle setup quickly. I would recommend this to anyone looking to add a trailer brake system into a vehicle. Easy to install, and no more hitting your knee on the controller because they are small and can be installed in various locations in the cab. Less than an hour install time the first one and then about 20 minutes to install them after the learning curve(ie. me…)

by:

Absolutely spot on. The adapter harness was perfect, the installation was easy, and the brake controller is excellent. Thank you etrailer!

by:
2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Easy installation. Plug and play as des cribed.

by:

The TPH-007 is the correct cable for a 2022 E350 cutaway in the Thor motorhome. Just double check that your Ford plug has 4 pins. 3 in 1 row and 1 on another row.
If all 4 pins are in the same row you will need the TPH-005

by:

Easy install, works great stopping my 30 foot travel trailer, I love the way you install the controller behind the dash and all you see is a little knob.Easy to adjust more brake or less brake with the turn of that little knob.

by:

The Red-arc controller came missing the ring for the switch. The harness was spot on and easy to use.

The real travesty is etrailer shipping and customer service. Two weeks to arrive…… customer service contacted and couldn’t be less concerned, said call us if it does not come in three weeks from order….

Used to be a great place to shop and the customer service was top notch…..not so much anymore.

by:

This works exactly as described, easy installation & adjust / control of braking for your trailer. Excellent product.

by:

by:
2012 Ford F-150

just what I ordered, glad you stock it!

by:

4 stars vs 5 because I have not hauled yet with my Redarc brake controller yet. Mounted it where the factory brake controller would have gone and it looks great. Install only took a couple of hours. One thing that is worth mentioning is that the break controller may NOT light up after initial install if a trailer is not hooked up. I was expecting it to light up as it learned the mounting position as mentioned in the manual but it didn’t. After a call to the manufacturer hot line we were told this is the most common call they get and not to worry the install is correct. I’ll try to write another review after I’ve hauled a significant load (4 tons or more) and let you know how my Redarc break controller did.

by:

My 2015 Ford F150 needed a trailer brake controller for the small squaredrop trailer that we bought recently. I did a little research and found that the REDARC controllers were very highly regarded. Can't give you much of an analysis of its performance, but it went in very easily - everything is just plug and play - the unit figures out which way is forward and then you have the option of dialing in the exact amount of power going to the trailer brakes. The hardest thing was deciding where to drill the hole for the control knob!

by:

This adaptor plug was very simple to plug into my OEM trailer brake connection.

by:

This looks like it will make the brake controller installation simple.

2019 Ford F-150

Installed in 2019 F-150. Not a whole lot of options on where to mount the remote switch on the dash. Mounted a plated of aluminum in the space where the factory control would be. The factory wiring was behind the dash in the back of the dummy cubby hole. The plug-and-play harness plugged directly into the Ford harness, then just had to clip off the black end and push the wires into the new connector supplied with the control module. The control module fit perfectly under the steering column, horizontally on a steel support plate. The next day, towed the trailer with two RZR's from WI to KS and back. Every thing worked perfectly.

  • Brake Controller Recommendation for 2017 Ford Expedition
The integrated brake controller should have a harness that comes out of the back of it that you can trace down to where it plugs into the vehicle's brake controller install port. If you unplug that you can plug in an aftermarket harness like the Redarc # 331-TPH-007 which would let you install the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED24FR which performs really well and unlike most brake controllers only puts a small knob on the dash so it's pretty similar to the integrated style of controller...

  • Recommended Trailer Brake Controller For a 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty
I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR for your 2022 Ford F-250. This controller is a plug and play installation with the Wiring Harness # 331-TPH-007. You can mount the control knob where you find it most convenient to use since the main portion of the controller will mount behind your dash. I have linked an installation video below for this controller being installed in the factory brake controller location on your truck.

Since you have a factory 4-Way on your 2016 Ford F-150 we can get you completely setup with plug-and-play parts. To upgrade your connection to a 7-way you need the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118283. This is going to plug into the factory connection at the rear of your truck. I also recommend the mounting bracket # PK12711U and no-drill bracket # C57202 to hold the connector in place. The only other thing you will need is a brake controller. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty...

  • Recommended Brake Controller for 2014 Ford F-150 With Factory 7-Way
The correct choice would be with factory 7-way, although the custom wiring harness is the same for the 4-way option. I highly recommend choosing a proportional brake controller for your 2015 F-150. Proportional brake controllers activate trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Tekonsha Primus IQ 3 # TK90160 is going to be the best choice close to the price point you're looking for. The # 22292 will plug into the factory port under your dash for an easy installation....

Where you choose to mount the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR on your 2019 Ford F-150 will be determined by your preference. The Redarc Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # 331-TPH-007 will limit where you will be able to mount the module itself. But the control knob can be mounted in a wide variety of places where you have at least 1-3/4" depth for the controller and wiring to mount. The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR requires a 7-way in order to activate the brakes on your trailer. It is not tied to the lights on the trailer at all. The blue brake output wire which runs to the 7-way at the rear of the vehicle sends power through the 7-way on the trailer which connects to the brakes.
