How to Measure for a Replacement Seal

Use a digital caliper and measure to the nearest thousandth of an inch.

Seal I.D.: Measure the diameter of the spindle at the grease seal seat (B), where the seal rides.
Seal O.D.: Remove the old seal and measure the inside diameter of the hub bore where the seal presses into the hub.

Measure each location in a few spots to check for wear or an out-of-round surface. Match both measurements to the replacement seal.

@GwendolynY hi, I mostly transport a face cord of wood which weighs around 1000lbs to 1500 lbs, I usually get 13 of them one at a time for my winter heat. The distance I go varies from 26 miles to 55 miles depending on who I buy from. My trailer is 15 years old and I bought it brand new. I use it a lot !

I am sure the product is of average quality, however when you purchase multiple items from etrailer (some of substantial weight) and they box everything together without any packing materials to keep fragile items safe, the comfort and likeness of purchasing items through this retailer drops. Brought this up with their customer service, and they said it was packed properly. The grease seal should of been in the little plastic bag.

Blew both seals in the Dexter pre assembled hub & this seal was the save of the day. Repacked bearings & replaced with this seal. Feels good to have spare seals in your trailer kit. I like this seal much better than the one the pre assembled kit came with.

I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law and plan for things to go wrong. I have kept a full bearing set for my Dexter #9 in the tool box of my teardrop since I first got it. I have yet to need them but I am ready.
I had to order a second set of seals to replace the original set that came with the axle kit. Why? Some unfortunate soul came up to me in a campground and since we had a similar Little Guy/NuCamp trailer, asked me "I bet you don"t have a spare set of bearing seals?" He lost a bearing and even though he found new bearings and races - at 5 times the cost, but no one in the little town we were in had any idea of the seal number. I gave him the part numbers from my cross ref sheet and he left to make some calls. A week to get them! We looked them up, ordered me a new set and sold them for the replacement cost. We keep in touch, he made it home from Calif to N. Carolina and has made several trips since with no issues.

These seals were for repacking of wheel bearings on a 23 yr old 5' X 8' utility trailer (probably has less than 1,000 mi on it). etrailer shipped promptly and the seals are the correct size. The new ones may be better quality than the originals; but it's probably not fair to compare 23 old seals to brand new ones. These were Dexter 8-258 hubs on a 2200# axle. Bearings were good, but I don't plan on waiting 23 yrs. before I service them again. If I am, I will be 90. We all hope I'm not "home improving" at that age.

I bought a Toy Carrier motorcycle trailer 3 years ago, I've taken it 2000mi
round trip to Daytona several times and feel guilty i have not repacked the wheel bearings yet. I consulted the Dexter axle website and found it very confusing, and of very little help acquiring new bearing seals, but i finally did find a part number, I entered the number on the etrailer website and was immediately rewarded with an image and wealth of information pertaining to the exact seal i needed, i refused to take the hub apart without the correct seal in hand, etrailer saved me a lot of worry over nothing, just good simple expedient service.

The product is fine. The review is more about finding these beasts. I went to 5 stores in my local area to no avail. I went online and entered the bearing SN# and only one company had a link to grease seal. I was never particular about where I brought online. Every time I needed trailer parts, this was the place. Haven't installed the brake magnet yet but looks to be an exact match to the old one. As for the seals I ordered, I learned not to trust my owners manual. It listed a part number to get for seal replacement so I ordered them and etrailer delivered them very efficiently only to find out the i.d. was not a fit. I should have checked the dimensions before ordering. I have found other discrepancies in my Aliner manual so it's not to be relied on. Thanks for fast service, etrailer.

Seals work good, I had to leave them hang out of the hub about a 1/16", to make sure they would make it past the grease hole on the spindle , that is the reason for the new seals. Hoping that will solve the issue of the grease getting on the inside of the wheel.

Based on your photo it looks like you have 2,700 lb axles, and we do have hubs for that size axle. However, you will need to confirm the bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. Recommended Replacement For A DICO 45263 Idler Hub
Hey Greg, The # AKIHUB-545-2-EZ-2K uses bearing # L44649 for both the inner and outer bearings and # 10-9 for the grease seal so you could just swap to the # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K instead since it fits 13" - 15" wheels. That being said, I've seen different reports on what grease seal is used on a DICO 45263 Hub so I'd double check point B from the diagram below with a caliper # PTW80157 to see if it measures 1.50" to confirm fitment.

Recommended Replacement Hubs For BT-150 Trailer Idler Hubs
Hey Dave, Looks like the BT-150 uses # L44649 bearings so you would be able to swap the hub out with the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K. This comes with a # 10-9 grease seal, which has a 1.5" inner diameter. I'm seeing that the BT-150 could come with either a 1.25" or 1.5" inner diameter grease seal so you'll want to measure point B on the diagram below with a caliper # PTW80157 to ensure this is the correct fit.

The Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K is compatible with standard 2,000 lb axles from most manufacturers. We may have a suitable replacement for that, but I looked everywhere online and I could not find a widely published dimension chart or full spec sheet you can pull up online using that number alone. The only reliable way to identify its specs will be for you to measure the old seal’s inner diameter, outer diameter, and width. Replacement Brake Assemblies, Bearings, Seal and Hub for 2002 Coleman Fleetwood Pop Up
Coleman/Fleetwood uses Dexter axles so I can help you pick out the parts you need for your 2,200 lb Dexter axle. The bearings you would need are # L44649 for the inner and outer and then for a seal # 10-9. For brake assemblies you would need part # 23-47 for the left and part # 23-48 for the right. I know you didn't mention it, but if you needed to hub drums you would need part # 8-173-16UC3.

The Inner bearing and the Outer bearing will be the same at # L44649 they have a 1.063 inch inner diameter. The Inner and Outer Race will be the same # L44610. Availability Of Double Lip Grease Seal With 1.5" ID And 1.983" OD
Hey Bruce, it sounds like you might have some older seals, perhaps Transcom seals with the 1.983" OD. We do have one seal, the #10-9 seal, which has proven to be a suitable replacement for these seals. This is a double lip seal with a 1.5" ID. The only difference is the outer diameter of this seal is only slightly larger at 1.987 versus 1.983 on your seal. Since there is no double lip seal with a 1.5" ID and 1.983" OD, this will be your best bet. What you can do is actually put the seals...

As far as removing your current spindle, you will need to grind/drill off the old one. One the old spindle is removed, I recommend the BT8 Spindle for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # TRU59FR (for a 1-3/8 diameter) or the # TRU94FR (for 1-1/4 diameter).
