Replacement Brake Assemblies, Bearings, Seal and Hub for 2002 Coleman Fleetwood Pop Up

Question:

I am trying to find replacement electric brakes, bearings and races for a 2002 Coleman/Fleetwood pop-up trailer. Unfortunately, none of the original parts has any sort of identifying number. The axle is rated at 2200 pounds, and that is the only marking. Brakes appear to be 7. Do you have any sort of reference to find out?

Coleman/Fleetwood uses Dexter axles so I can help you pick out the parts you need for your 2,200 lb Dexter axle.

The bearings you would need are # L44649 for the inner and outer and then for a seal # 10-9.

For brake assemblies you would need part # 23-47 for the left and part # 23-48 for the right. I know you didn't mention it, but if you needed to hub drums you would need part # 8-173-16UC3.

I have a 2003 coleman Fleetwood Niagara elite with a bent axle spindle. Please advise on possibility for spindle straightening or replacement or possible whole axle replacement. Best plan for a DIY’er. Thanks.

It's possible to replace just the spindle but it does require a certified professional with experience with that type of install because they have to be welded on PERFECTLY. For a DIY'er the simplest option is honestly a new axle. To find a good replacement you'll need to measure your existing axle, both its hub length and spring seat length, and verify its capacity.

@ChrisR - thanks for your reply. I'll measure to confirm the size needed. I believe my popup has a 3500# axle and has electric brakes fitted. Are the spindles and brake mounting plates fairly standard in case I decide to use my existing brakes/hubs? Also, I am considering under-mounting the new axle in order to gain a little ground clearance. Can I order an axle with spring seats welded on top?

@Stephen A 3,500 pound axle is actually uniquely standard in the world of trailer axles and spindles, so you should have no problem maintaining use of your existing hubs and brakes with the new axle. We don't have any axles with the spring seats already mounted on top, but you may be able to get this from a local trailer shop or fabricator if you have any around.
