Recommended Replacement For A DICO 45263 Idler Hub

Updated 07/17/2025 | Published 05/26/2024

Question:

I have a shot lander boat trailer with an existing DICO 45263 hub. I’ve read on here that the best replacement would be a hub with part AKIHUB-545-2-EZ. I would like to get those but on review of those hubs it states they are for 10”-12” wheels. I have 13” wheels. What should I buy? Thank you Greg S

Hey Greg,

The # AKIHUB-545-2-EZ-2K uses bearing # L44649 for both the inner and outer bearings and # 10-9 for the grease seal so you could just swap to the # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K instead since it fits 13" - 15" wheels. That being said, I've seen different reports on what grease seal is used on a DICO 45263 Hub so I'd double check point B from the diagram below with a caliper # PTW80157 to see if it measures 1.50" to confirm fitment.

Kevin, The hub you recommend does sound like it’ll fit on the existing spindle, but my only question is that the hub part AKIHUB-545-2-EZ is galvanized, whereas the hub you recommend is not. Will the # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K hub corrode easily on a boat trailer?

@Jake Great point Jake! The zinc-enriched paint finish on the # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K makes it ok for marine applications. Zinc provides what's known as sacrificial protection, meaning it corrodes before the underlying metal does, preserving the integrity of the steel or iron beneath. You are right though, the galvanized Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K would be even better for marine applications. What kind of boat trailer is this going on?

@KateF It’s going on a freshwater 14’ Jon boat single axel Shoreland’r trailer…realistically though the Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K says 10”-12” wheels I don’t see any serious issues in using a 13” wheel so long as it clear the 5x4.5 bore, the bearings match, and the wheel fits over the lip of the new hub. How long would it take the zinc-enriched paint to corrode? It could prove problematic if the trailer sits for an extended period of time outside over a winter, am I on the right path here?

@Jake For liability purposes, I cannot recommend using a wheel size that is not listed as a fit. We do have the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # 8-258-50BTUC1 which is a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern and is listed working with the 13" wheel. As for the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub for 2K Axles - 13" to 15" Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K in mild, inland environments, zinc-rich paint can last 5–10 years with minimal touch-up.
