Easy Hookup with Self-Aligning Arms

Blue Ox Acclaim Self-Aligning Arms

The Acclaim's convenient, self-centering arms help to make hookup a snap. Older and more economical tow bars have rigid arms that are essentially locked in place so you have to drive your towed vehicle into the exact position necessary for hookup. But with the Acclaim, you can connect from the approximate towing position quickly and easily. Once you have connected the tow bar to both your vehicle's base plates and your RV's hitch ball, simply drive your RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend and lock in place. Before hitting the road, be sure to check that the arms are properly latched to avoid damage to your towing setup.

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

Blue Ox Acclaim Non-Binding Tow Arms

Being unable to unhook your car because of a bind in the tow bar is really frustrating. Sharp turns and uneven terrain at campsites can put your tow bar in a bind, even if you're careful.

Fortunately, Blue Ox has defeated the age-old problem of binding by creating a tow bar that is just as easy to release as it is to hook up. Simply press down the handles on the tow bar arms until the internal latch disengages. By releasing some of the static pressure from the tow bar, you can move the arms just enough to make disconnecting from the base plates a snap, even when it's not level with your RV.

Sturdy, Dependable Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox Acclaim Triple-Lug Connection

The Blue Ox base plates on your vehicle are equipped with two tabs each that connect to the brackets on the ends of the tow bar arms. The triple-lug design of the Acclaim tow bar creates a tighter, more stable connection by surrounding both base plate lugs. The result is a sturdy, reinforced connection that is strong and rigid for a safe, dependable towing experience.

Hooking up the Acclaim to your base plates is as simple as it is secure. Just line up the triple-lug end of the tow bar arm with the base plate so that the center lug is positioned between the two tabs of the base plate. Then insert the 1/2" keeper pin through all of the lugs and secure it with the included quick pin.

Vinyl-Coated Safety Cables Included

Blue Ox Acclaim Safety Cables

The vinyl-coated safety cables, which have a 5,000-lb weight rating, provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. Steel S-hooks connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.

Simple Storage

Blue Ox Acclaim Easy Storage

The Acclaim can be easily stored on your towed vehicle when it's not in use. Simply disconnect the arm on the driver's side from the base plate bracket and swing it over to the other arm so that they are side by side. Secure the arms together with the integrated holding pin. Then line up the folded tow bar with the front of your vehicle so that the coupler is positioned next to the driver's-side base plate. Using the 1/2" keeper pin, connect the holding bracket beneath the coupler to the base plate bracket and secure it with the quick pin.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

It worked wonderful. We are very pleased!! It pulled my chevy truck great. I will definitely recommend you to anyone who is looking. Price was great and you followed through after the sale. Thank you!

Will be using it again in a couple weeks hopefully! But it worked like a gem !
Carolyn D - 12/27/2022

Very easy to install, I use it to tow a jeep wrangler over 300 miles. I made several stops along the way to inspect all the connections, but I never had to make any adjustments to it. very well made, couldn't be happier. It worked perfect right out of the box, no adjustments had to be made.

Great product and great customer service. Replacing my toad soon, and will be back for another tow bar.

We use the Blue Ox tow bar to tow our jeep behind our motorhome. Easy to hook up and works perfectly.

Arrived on time. Works on my iM Toyota. I like this better than the 2" received models for motorhomes for towing 5000 lbs or less. Much easier and quicker to connect. This hitch folds and stays on the car while traveling. Always pleased with the service from!

This is the second Blue Ox Unit I have owned. The first for a motorcoach and the second to make transfers with my 3500 pickup. Love the tow bar. Much easier to connect than the receiver type - and - stows on the front of my Toyota iM. Blue Ox products are first class and I always purchase from Etrailer if they stock it because of the professionalism and service.
Jim I - 11/02/2021

Had to do some grinding to stow the much as you charge you should add a cover to keep it pretty.Great product would highly recommend and would buy again.Same with the base plate I bought from you earlier.Id give you a 4 7/8 star .very fast free shipping

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this tow bar. Although it is rated at 5000 lbs it looks like it could easily handle much more. Excellent product…looks great feels sturdy…a definite quality product and the included safety chains are no exception.

I can only speak for myself but this model Tow Bar came along just at the right time. Recently I had some minor hand surgery that went bad and left my right hand total useless and unable to lift or hold anything in it. I had been using a regular Blue Ox tow bar, which work great but was very difficult for me to handle and hold up while connecting to toad and motor home. The Acclaim stays hooked up to the toad all the time so I only have to disconnect the one arm and swing it around to the other side and connect the one pin. With it staying connected I don't have to support all the weight of the tow bar and hooking it to the motor home with the ball hitch is a piece of cake. Before I had to support the bars with my leg and I ruined countless pairs of pants with grease spots from the ends of the tow arms. So if you are handicapped in any way this bar makes it much easier to hook up.

I have used this model of Blue Ox hitch for years without problems. This is my third as I sell the old ones with the towed vehicles each time. The speed of delivery and price from etrailer can't be beat. Great service. Great price. Thank you.

I first ordered the wrong part, within a couple days I had the correct one! Thanks to the delightful staff I ended up with an awesome hitch from very friendly staff, I'll definitely be ordering more in the future!

It fits great and tows great. The only problem I had is that Mini is so small that you can't fold it up in front when not using it. Not a big problem as it removes easily, or you can just flip it up. I flip it up and use a bungie to my roof rack. It has a stop so it will not hit the hood of the car. Great product!

The tow bar works great! The pressure release handles are very convenient and the bar stores quite well when not in use. (you do have to keep it in mind when parking the car nose in)

I ordered my blue ox on Tuesday and received it on Friday! Very easy ppl to work with fast shipping and I had absolutely no issues with etrailer Thank you for the easiest on line shopping! I will only order from here for now on!!!!!!

My wife can connect and disconnect very quickly and easily. Makes towing very easy

Works good. Put it on myself direction were good

The tow bar will do just what I need so I can hook up my tow car by myself also very sturdy

Simple to install, should work great.

I am soooo impressed with Kyle and the entire etrailer company. I do not remember the last time I had such great, professional and caring attention for setting up my car towing needs. After I had to order another part (not etrailers fault) Kyle even called me to make sure I had ordered the correct one. This really shows how much they care about the customer. I can assure you the next time I need anything for my boat trailer or car towing I will first check with them. I am truly a customer for life. Kyle was amazing.

Sherry was very knowledgeable and had superb customer service skills.

Easy to handle, keep it clean and lubed !!

Just received the hitch, I was expecting to have some assembly required, but it was already to mount onto my Jeep and stow. Great looking product and competitively priced.
Troy H. was very helpful during the ordering process, it made me feel comfortable that I was buying the correct style for my base plate and use.

I am still excited about the product, works very well. I bought a new Jeep, had the appropriate base installed, and transferred the hitch over to the new Jeep. I had bought a cover and it has protected the hitch when on or off the Jeep. I recommend the Blue Ox products for your towing needs.
Chuck G - 10/16/2018

This is a great towbar for a CRV and folds conveniently out of the way on the front of a Honda CRV without having to remove everything. I just fold it sideways and drive it around wherever we need to go. Even at home, if take the CRV, the folded towbar is still attached. works great.

Just received it today. Can’t use it until the base plate is delivered

I can’t describe the GREAT level of satisfaction I had finally placing this order and purchase over the phone, after some frustrations I had due to a website malfunction. I want to thank Michelle B. for taking the time to match the products I needed, answer questions and placing this order for me considering my urgency. I would recommend this company to anyone Looking NOT only for good quality product, but EXCEPTIONAL customer service as well.

Product was mostly as described. Although described as heavy, it was a bit heavier than I assumed. Still it is not enough to discourage my utilization of it.

  • Difference in Blue Ox Acclaim vs. Alpha Tow Bars
Biggest difference is how they connect to the tow vehicle. The Alpha part # BX7380 slides into a hitch opening and the Acclaim # BX4330 connects to a hitch ball like a trailer does. The preferred method is the Alpha which allows you to fold the tow bar up on the tow vehicle and store it there when not in use. Yes. You can use the Blue Ox Acclaim # BX4330 with the Blue Ox # BX2232 base plates on your 2003 Honda CR-V. It is important that the tow bar coupler be parallel to the ground. The height from the center of the ball to the centerline of the attachment tabs should be approximately 7”. If the tow bar coupler is at an angle, an accident or damage can occur. The use of a drop/rise receiver is recommended to ensure the coupler stays parallel to the ground.
