Quick, Easy Hookup

This Roadmaster tow bar has a large hookup radius to ensure simple, secure hookup. What this means is that, even if your towed car is not perfectly aligned with your RV, you will still be able to make the necessary connections. To achieve this, the StowMaster has stainless steel, telescopic inner arms that adjust independently. In addition, 1 of these arms is able to pivot in and out, changing the spread. So, if your car is angled a bit behind your RV, you'll still be able to hook up by bringing the arms closer together and staggering the length so that 1 arm is longer than the other, allowing it to reach the more distant base plate.

The fact that the arms are extra-long also allows for a better turning radius. By putting more distance between your motorhome and your towed car, your entire setup will become easier to maneuver so that your towed car will track behind your motorhome without running the risk of hitting your RV during turns.

Autowlok

The Autowlok mechanism features a spring-loaded pin that locks the telescoping arms into place for towing. Once the tow bar is connected to both your RV and to the base plates on your towed vehicle, simply drive the RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend, at which point they will automatically lock into place.

Once you've reached your destination and you're ready to unhook your vehicle, press the release button to disengage the spring-loaded pin. The arms will be able to telescope again, making it easier to disconnect. However, if you're on uneven terrain, or if your towed vehicle is not perfectly aligned behind your RV, chances are you'll experience tow bar binding. This is the result of tension that can build up in the telescoping arm, and it can make it difficult to disconnect your vehicle. Using a release tool (RM-066 - sold separately) will give you the leverage necessary to disconnect.

The internal self-lubricating nylon bushings help to absorb road shock and reduce wear and tear on the tow bar by eliminating friction between the inner and outer arms as they telescope in and out. Inside each arm, a built-in safety strap provides extra peace of mind by ensuring that the inner and outer arms won't separate in the event of a latch failure.

Quick-Disconnects

Quick-Disconnect

Standard on most Roadmaster tow bars, quick-disconnects make it a snap to attach the tow bar to your vehicle. Other methods require you to maneuver each tow bar arm individually and perfectly line up tabs on the arms with tabs on your base plates. Roadmaster's unique design lets you connect and disconnect the tow bar quickly and easily, all by yourself.

The quick-disconnect brackets come in separate pieces. The pieces that are positioned on the ends of each tow bar arm interlock with matching brackets that attach to your Roadmaster base plates. Sandwiched between the tow bar arms is a sturdy crossbar that essentially turns the arms into a single structure. This crossbar allows you to lower the tow bar as a single piece onto the quick-disconnect brackets on your towed car so that you don't have to connect each arm separately. When lowering the tow bar onto the brackets, make sure that the tab on each bracket lines up with the hole in the matching bracket. Then just insert the linch pins through the holes in the tabs on top to secure the brackets together. To remove the tow bar, simply remove the pins and lift the tow bar off of the brackets. These convenient brackets also make it simple to mount any number of Roadmaster accessories, from basic safety cables to the Guardian rock shield.

Superior Testing Ensures Excellent Quality

FEA test

This StowMaster tow bar has been subjected to rigorous physical and computerized testing to ensure that it meets Roadmaster's exceptionally high standards. Throughout the design process, Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA) is done. Each of these tests display a 3-dimensional image of the tow bar while it is put under thousands of pounds of pressure. Areas of stress in the tow bar can then be located and studied so that those areas can be strengthened. This process is repeated until any weak spots, particularly those found in load-bearing components, are completely removed. The result is a durable, strong, and safe product.

Simple Storage

FOLDED STOWMASTER

The StowMaster can easily be folded up and stored on the front of your towed vehicle when not in use. After disconnecting the tow bar from your RV, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side and fold them up towards the vehicle. There is a collar under the coupler that fits over a vertical post on the crossbar. This secures the tow bar in the stored position on the front of your car.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

FlatTowing Components

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster StowMaster Tow Bar Installation - 2011 Jeep Liberty

Hi there Jeep owners today in your 2011 Jeep Liberty, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Roadmaster stowmaster 5,000 lunette ring tow bar. There's five main components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle with whatever you want to pull it with, whether it be a motor home or a tractor trailer. You'll need your tow bar, which is the connection between your vehicle and whatever you're towing. You'll need your safety cables, which is a supplemental connection in addition to your tow bar. You'll need your diode wiring, which takes all the lighting signals from the towing vehicle and sends them to the towed vehicle. And you'll also need your supplemental braking system, which will apply the brakes on your towed vehicle whenever you hit the brakes inside your towing vehicle.

And of course you need a base plate for your towed vehicle, which is going to provide the connection point for your tow bar to attach to.And this is what our tow bar is going to look like when it's installed. Ball in that ring will easily attach to a Pintle hitch and the crossbar style end will stay connected here onto your vehicle. I like that it has a nice storage position that folds up very nice here in the front. It almost gives the Jeep an aggressive look on it with this here in the front. So if you've got that field that you're wanting to get on, maybe an off-roading vehicle, this is a great option if you want to get more of an aggressive look.

Compared to many other tow bars, which have storage traditions that are on your towing vehicle side so usually on the back of your motor homes where those would store. This one here uses the lunette ring though, which comes in two different sizes. We currently are using the two and a half inch lunette ring, but it also comes in a three inch lunette ring. The only real difference between the three inch lunette ring tow bar and the two and a half inch lunette ring tow bar is the length of the arms. The three inch Lunette ring tow bar is going to be about four inches longer than what our two and a half hitch is going to be here. On our truck here we're using our pintle hitch and we've got it in the rise position because when you're flat towing you ideally want to have as level of a playing field as possible here.

Keeping this level, we'll ensure that all the forces are being pulled straight. So we're not lifting up or pulling down on the suspension causing anywhere on the components there. Adjustable ball mounts with pintle hitches are available here at etrailer.com.We're using BMW's tow and stow. And this easily allows us to just pull these pins, adjust to the right height and get hooked up with no problem. This is a binding tow bar.

So you'll want to keep that in mind. The small buttons here on the top will help release it if it does get stuck. But if you are in a bind, it's extremely difficult to press down in on these to get it released. In many cases, you're going to need a hammer or mallet to hit on it to release it. Or you could purchase a releasing tool from Roadmaster that we have here at etrailer.com, that gives you additional leverage. It'll hook down here on the bottom and give you a lever to press on that will push down so you can get these released. This tow bar is going to be self-aligning. So when we take off in our towing vehicle, the arms will extend lock in place and keep our Jeep tracks directly behind us.All of the internals inside of the unit are going to be stainless steel to protect against rust and corrosion. And on the outside here we've got a black powder coat finish, which gives it a nice look, but also helps protect the outside from rusting corrosion as well. All of this steel is going to lead to the 6,000 pound towing capacity that we have available, which will be more than enough for our Jeep here. To install our tow bar onto our Jeep here we are going to need to attach the attachment points at our tow bar simply just slides onto. This is very similar to your crossbar style tow bar attachment. If you've ever worked with those, you'll recognize these ends here. We'll line these up, and there is a sticker on them labeling whether it's the driver or passenger side. So make sure you've got the correct one. We'll then take the plates that come with them and the bolts. We're going to slide the bolt through the plate, through our bracket. And then through the base plate on the back side. We're going to follow that up with a washer, lock washer and nut. We're just going to loosely install it at this time. We're then going to put one in the other hole next to it. And then we'll repeat that on the other side,We can now lift our crossbar into position. This is our entire tow bar. There are stickers on top. That's the side we want to face up. Then we're just going to slide it down, lighting up the pegs at the bottom of our tow bar, with the holes in the plates and the holes in the top of the tow bar with the pegs on the top of our plates. Once we've got that on there, we can go ahead and snug up the hardware. We're not going to likely be able to fully tighten it down at this time because of just getting in there to get to it. But if we get it snugged up, we can test the fit and then get it installed much easier. So, we just looking to snug it just to keep it in position because we know in this position with the crossbar on it, that it is going to fit and you really only need to do one on each side just to hold it in place. And then just want to take our tow bar now and then just lift it up and set it down. We would just want to verify that it goes on and off easily and there's no binding. If there's no binding, we can take it off. And then torque your hardware to the specifications found in your instructions. We can then slide our tow bar in place. Verify that again, easily goes up and down we're not fighting anything, and then secure it with the included pins. These simply slide through, and then flip over to lock in place. When you're ready to use your tow bar you can just remove it from its storage position. It's currently in that position now with the pin holding it locked into that position. We'll go ahead and pull the pin so we can pull our bar up and we can slide the arm down. The arms here are telescoping, so we don't have to pull necessarily right perfectly behind it. We do got a little bit of leeway here with the movement in our arms. We're going to line it up with our ring and then just push it right down on top. Once you've got it on your Pintle hitch, you can simply just secure it. And now you have left to do is hook up the rest of your wiring and your safety cables in place your vehicle into tow mode. And now with everything all hooked up, ready to place our Jeep into tow mode and hit the road. And that completes our installation of Roadmaster stowmaster 5,000 lunette ring tow bar on our 2011 Jeep Liberty.

I am pulling a Jeep behind a pickup camper so I don’t have a place to stow the tow bar like a motor home. This tow bar folds nicely and fits on the front of a Jeep well.

Comments
The tow bar has worked well. The videos on the installation of the base plate were very helpful. There are a couple of different covers for the tow bars, so be sure to get the right one.

If you are thinking of towing a car this is the company to see. Just installed a base plate and tow bar to my Toyota. Took just 2 hours. With the video and instructions, no problems, very easy. Customer support excellent, very helpful. If you don’t think that you can do this install yourself, think again. I would recommend this tow bar, with the telescoping arms connecting to the car is very simple and secure. This is a 5 star product. Thank You

This product is well made and well engineered. It performs the functions of allowing a reasonable amount of flexibility in coupler/ball alignment, locking into place, smooth vehicle towing and securing into the "stowed" position. Because of my bumper mounted winch, I needed to make some adaptations to the mounting system which the RM-501 accommodated very well. I am very pleased with this purchase. I will send a couple of installed pictures by seperate email.

Bought this from Etrailer with all the supporting hardware needed to flat tow my Durango. The quality is excellent (stainless steel, very strong), the install was pretty easy. Only issues I had were because of the are of my vehicle. Towing with it and hooking up is simple. It takes only a minute to go from stowed to hooked up. Etrailer.com was easy to deal with, helpful, and shipping was very fast. This is my second order with them, both have been flawless. Their pricing also proved to be the lowest.

It was a tough installation, but we got it installed. The tow bar works well. It takes some strength to attach to a the ball on my RV.

Comments
Only used it twice. It worked fine when I was towing a four door Jeep. Releasing the tow bar took some muscle.

Nice, solid product. Easy to install and remove. Sliding action is very smooth, easy to extend and fold. My hitch coupler is slightly different design than shown but seems very heavy duty.

Review from a similar Stowmaster in Tow Bar

I bought the RM baseplate for my jeep because they may an adaptor for the Duncan tow bar. I got the Duncan on craigslist and it looked great. But I didn't know that I needed a DUNCAN quick release kit. It wasn't on it. The RM quick release only attaches the RM Duncan adaptor to the baseplate. So learn from my mistake don't buy a used Duncan unless you are sure you have all the parts. I out $200 for very nice looking hardly used but worthless Duncan tow bar plus the return shipping for the RM 038 and RM 021. The only solution to this was to buy the RM-501 tow bar which is what I should have done in the first place. It is very well made and easy to stow or remove. How much are they getting for scrap metal these days.
