Sturdy, Built-to-Last Tow Bar

The etrailer SD tow bar is tough and built to last. Sturdy, modular steel construction offers the strength you need to pull up to 6,000 lbs. Two hitch pin holes allow you to position the tow bar closer to or further from your RV, without sacrificing load capacity.

The black powder coat finish protects against the elements and flying road debris. And stainless steel inner arms provide additional durability and allow for smooth operation. Quality-engineered pivot points and hardware ensure both strength and maneuverability.

Fast, Easy Hookup

With independent, easy-to-maneuver arms, the SD makes connecting your towed vehicle to your motorhome a breeze. Unlike most tow bar arms that move together along a single plane, the SD tow bar arms operate completely separately from one another. A vertical bolt through the head of the tow bar keeps the arms positioned one on top of the other, allowing for a more fluid hookup. The arms pivot horizontally on this bolt, allowing for an unlimited spread so that you can hook up to base plates with almost any spacing. A built-in joint at the base of each arm allows for vertical movement so that you don't have to tilt the entire head when positioning the arms.

The arms telescope for easy extension to your base plate connection points, even if your towed car is not perfectly aligned with your RV. The self-supporting design of the arms also allows you to telescope one arm out and attach it to the base plate without having to worry about supporting the opposite arm at the same time. The arms lock into place when you're ready to tow, and the extra length of the arms allows for a better turning radius. By putting more distance between your motorhome and your towed car, your entire setup will become easier to maneuver so that your towed car will track behind your motorhome without running the risk of hitting your RV during turns.

Base Plate Connection

In order to be compatible with Blue Ox base plates, sturdy adapter brackets are included for compatibility with the ends of each tow bar arm. These clevis-style ends attach to the base plates using the included hardware and provide a tight, stable connection for a safer and more dependable towing experience.

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

The built-in trigger releases make it easy to disconnect the SD. Tension can build up in a telescoping arm when the RV and towed vehicle are not perfectly aligned. Engaging the trigger on each arm releases pressure and allows the arms to telescope freely, making it easy to disconnect the tow bar from the base plates, even if you are at a hard angle or out of level.

Each trigger release latch is positioned on the side of the tow bar arm. This allows for a comfortable yet firm grip, unlike latches that are positioned on the tops of tow bar arms, which can be difficult to grab. This out-of-the-way placement of the latches also creates a clean look for the tow bar.

Straight, Vinyl-Coated Safety Cables Included

Two straight, vinyl-coated safety cables provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. The cables are held off the ground by the included mounting clips. These clips keep the cables from dragging on the ground, preventing damage and tangling. Steel S-hooks with spring-loaded latches connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.

The tow bar also offers a convenient storage rod for securing your coiled electrical cord (sold separately). The rod holds your power cord neatly out of the way and up off the ground.

Versatile, Secure Storage

Independent arm movement also allows for storage versatility. Easily store the tow bar out of the way, alongside your RV. The arms can be folded up to the right or to the left, or you can fold one arm to each side so that they are parallel to your motorhome's bumper. Just pivot each arm into position and a peg at the base of the arm will snap into a built-in tab, latching the arm in place so that you don't have to worry about it coming unfolded during travel.

For added protection, slip on a tow bar cover (sold separately) while the tow bar is folded up either to the left or the right against your RV.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

I love this townar is is so quick and simple to hook up..
I would highly recommend this product

Upon close inspection, the tow bar appears to be extremely well made. The powder coating is evenly applied without any thick, thin, or bare spots and the baseplate adapter hardware seems to be of comparable high quality. As soon as I work out a couple of fascia clearance issues with my Blue Ox baseplate installation, I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Im still very pleased with our etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar. It worked flawlessly in a trip up and down the East Coast earlier this year and were soon to give it an extended workout in a two-month Tour of America we have planned for September and October. I have no reason to expect anything but continued great performance from it.

You guys are absolutely the best. I experience outstanding customer service right from the start. Selecting the right towbar and hitch was critical to me and my family being able to enjoy our vacation. I tried to reach 8 other companies who would not answer the phone or give me the run around. Then I took a chance on etrailer since I had order a similar part and I was glad I did. I reciecev excellent help in getting the right hitch without over spending and then William help to change the shipping at the last minite to ensure I recieved the part at my new location. Jennifer B even did a followup to let me know that the part had arrived a day early. This outstanding service is what is needed in every business but right now is so lacking except at etrailer.

Unit is heavy duty and well made. Hook up is very easy. There is still some binding during disconnect if not on perfectly level, but much less than my previous setup. I like how the arms stow when not in use. Overall I’m very pleased.

Ordering and shipping was fast and easy. Products arrived in good condition. I haven't installed them yet, but it all looks as advertised. Not my first order with etrailer and the customer service was outstanding as always. Why anyone would order from any place other then etrailer I cannot fathom.

First tow bar so as far as I'm concerned it met all of my requirements. Needed a drop-adapter for my '16 Smart ForTwo to tow safely behind my '14 Class C.

other than a broken linch pin worked pe rfect

When I returned the damaged Tow Bar (which cost me $[XX] shipping) I included all the hardware that came with it. When I received the replacement it did not include the hardware.

1st, the package with “Blue Ox” plates did not include the 3/8-16 nuts ??. [I have doubled nutted the bolt].
The install was straight forward.

The tow bar comes with all the hardware needed to install. I will have our customer service team reach out to you so we can have any hardware missing replaced for you.

Love the non-binding setup and the way it stows. Holds the cables and power cord in ace with no dragging g.

Very pleased with the purchase. Trying to get ready for a trip and the other hitch has been on delay. Just couldn't wait any longer. The person that helped with the exchange was very helpful and understanding to my situation. It arrived very quick so I have time to work on getting the final details taken care of. Thank you so very much for the help.

After gaining some experience and knowledge about flat towing, I found that Danielle at etrailer helped me select the perfect towbar for my purposes.
Thank you Danielle and etrailer.

I am very happy witw the hitch and delivery was quick

I just got a chance to install on my Motorhome but haven't had a chance to hook the car up and take it for a spin. Not sure when that will happen.

Looks to be well made. Have not used it yet, though.

Nice piece of equipment! Makes me excited for summer traveling.

excellent product.

Works great. You can adjust the tension during setup so that the arms do not drop to the ground. Most times it is easy to unhook. Occasionally, it takes a little effort but still better than the better known brand.

Very nice towbar! Still waiting for the adapters so have not towed with it yet but I've had several others and this one looks like a keeper.

Recently I purchased a new car to tow behind my motorhome which required new tow equipment. I was scheduled to leave on vacation in two weeks and was pressed for time to be able to tow the new car. Etrailer delivered all items in record time to allow me to set up the car to be ready to tow. I have used etrailer many times over the years and have never been disappointed.

Our of the box fit right in and hooked up. No issues what so every

Has worked perfect

Item arrived promptly, with no damage. Unusually large box -could have had 2-3 more towbars included. Have installed unit , but have not towed yet--try it next week.
Thank you , Amy, for such and easy and nice order experience.
