Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars Review

Today we're going to review and install the Roadmaster High-Low four inch drop, part number RM-070. All right, here's where our tow bar, tow vehicle, and tow vehicle look like without the high-low adapter. As you can see, the angle on our tow bar is pretty significant. To determine the proper size high-low adapter, we're going to take our tape measure, measure from the hitch pin hole to the ground. We're right at 23 3/4 inches. Then if we go to our tow bar where it attaches here at the base plate, we're at 19 inches. A 4 3/4 inch difference so we'll need to add approximately a 4 inch drop to our receiver tube so we don't have more than an inch or two difference up or down from the receiver tube to our tow bar. Next we'll go ahead and remove the tow bar so we can install the high-low adapter.

Our high-low adapter for this application, a total of 15 inches long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the shank hole for our tow bar is going to be 10 1/4 inches, and it's about 6 1/2 inches tall. This is a full steel, fully welded construction with a nice, black, powder-coated finish. It fits a two inch by two inch receiver tube and allows for a two inch by two inch shank. The high-low adapter is capable of up to 6,000 pound tow capacity and 200 pound tongue weight. Note the high-low adapter can also be used upside-down for applications where you need to raise hitch height. To install it we simply line up the shank with the receiver tube, line up the hitch pin holes, then install a new 5/8 pin and clip.

It does not come with the adapter. We'll be using our PC3 5/8 pin and clip. Now as you an see with the high=low adapter installed, we've completely changed the angle from the shank of our tow bar and where it attaches to the tow vehicle, back to where we attached it to the base plate, and the angle of our tow bar arms. Now from the center of the hitch pin hole, it's 19 1/2 inches and at our base plate attachment point we're at 19 1/4, giving us a quarter inch difference. That will complete the review and install of the Roadmaster high-low 4 inch drop, part number RM-070.

The riser is working great. I did add two hitch quietner U-bolts to keep the angle appropriate and to keep the connections from rattling. It is a great setup and I am super pleased with it.

  • How to Adjust Hitch Height of RV To Allow Vehicle to Flat Tow with Tow Bar Level
Sounds like what you are looking for is a high low adapter like part # RM-070 which will allow you to raise or lower the hitch height by 4 inches. I also attached a link below that shows how to pick out the correct high low adapter as well.

  • Recommendation to Gain Ground Clearance When Carrying a Scooter Carrier and Scooter
What I would recommend is the Curt MultiPurpose Ball mount part # D210. This product will give you 6 inches of rise for your carrier without cutting the tongue weight of your hitch in half like most hitch extenders do. Check out the review video I attached for this product.

  • Choosing a Ball Mount
I think we can help you out here. We have several different adjustable ball mounts and ball mounts with with a fixed drop. If you are going to tow only one particular trailer, a fixed ballmount would probably be your best bet. To determine the rise/drop needed, measure from the top of the receiver to the ground. Then, with the trailer level, measure from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. The difference between these two measurements is the rise or drop you will need. The adjustable...

  • Tongue Weight Capacity of RoadMaster High-Low Drop Adapter # RM-070
When you have all 4 wheels of the toad on the ground, the tongue weight is next to nothing. The 100 pound rating does account for sudden but brief increases in tongue weight such as bumps in the road. The idea of using a high-low adapter like # RM-070 is so that the tow bar is level. A level tow bar means the tongue weight will be low.

  • Will Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-070 Work with Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar and Tow Defender
The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter, part # RM-070, is designed for use with a tow bar only. It will work with the Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar, part # RM-522, you have referenced. This adapter is meant to be used when towing a rolling load on four wheels so it will not encounter any tongue weight or downward force of over 100 lbs. The tongue weight you will have on the adapter when towing a vehicle with the four wheels down will mainly be the weight of the stinger that is inserted...

  • Can Roadmaster High Low Adapter with Lower Capacity that Tow Bar Be Used Safely
As long as the tow bar and high-low adapter are rated for at least the weight of the vehicle you are flat towing you'd be fine with one being rated for less weight. So if the 4 inch high-low adapter part # RM-070 will allow your to tow your Colorado level and the vehicle weighs less than 6,000 lbs this would be a great solution that would be perfectly safe. From what I was able to find your Colorado would weigh at most 4,520 lbs so you'd be fine.

  • 4 Inch High/Low Adapter Recommendation for a 2001 Fleedwood Bounder Towing 2013 Honda Fit
I would go with the 4 inch drop like the RoadMaster High-Low Adapter part # RM-070 that you referenced for your 2013 Honda Fit being towed by a 2001 Fleetwood Bounder Class A motorhome. That would put you withing a 1/2 of an inch of being perfectly level and I believe would be your best option without breaking the bank on a 3 inch drop adapter like the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter # BX88235.

  • 4 Inch High-Low Drop used with Cargo Carrier
I would not use part # RM-070 with your cargo carrier. It is meant for use with a towbar while towing a vehicle on all 4 wheels and does not have a weight capacity suitable for cargo carriers. The part that would work for your application is part # V75090. It has a tongue capacity of 500 pounds, meaning that the total weight of your cargo carrier and cargo cannot exceed 500 lbs. It will provide 6 inches of rise to get your carrier away from the exhaust.

  • How to Measure to Determine the Right High/Low Adapter Needed to Flat Tow a Honda Fit Level
To determine which hi/low adapter is needed when flat towing your Honda Fit you will first need to have both the vehicle and the RV parked on level ground. On the RV, measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the trailer hitch. Then on the Fit, measure from the ground up to the center of the base plate brackets the tow bar attaches to. The RV is likely higher so the difference in height is the amount of drop you will need. Most tow bars can be mounted within a...

  • How Much Length Will the RoadMaster High-Low Drop # RM-070 Add to Flat Towing Setup
The RoadMaster High-Low Drop # RM-070 would extend your tow bar out about an additional 10 inches. If you don't need the additional drop of 4 inches then this adapter wouldn't be needed as it is not a requirement for flat towing a vehicle. If you did need it the additional length wouldn't be too big of a deal. When you are already flat towing a vehicle behind your RV what's another 10 inches? I attached a picture that shows this adapter being used to flat tow a Mazda Miata.

  • Availability of Hitch Adapter With a 4 Inch Rise That Will Fit a Thule Bike Rack
You can use the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount, part # D210, with a Thule bike rack that fits a 2 inch receiver. The ball mount receiver has a high enough tongue weight capacity at 350 pounds to handle the weight of the rack plus the bikes, and the drawbar has a total tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds. It will provide a rise of 4-3/4 inches above the top of the receiver opening on the hitch. It will help with bottoming out on vehicles that have low ground clearance.

  • Cargo Carrier With Rise Shank Recommendation for a 2014 Toyota Sienna and Curt Hitch
The best solution I can recommend for you would be to get a cargo carrier with a rise built into the shank so that it would sit high enough so that it wouldn't drag. The # RM-070 that you referenced has only been tested for use in flat towing setups. If you used it with a cargo carrier you would void the warranty. For your 2008 Nissan Rogue I would recommend a Class III hitch like the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75902 as it would have plenty of capacity for towing your trailer and would give you greater flexibility for future hitch accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900.
