CE Smith Boat Trailer Parts - CE27740

  • Post-Style Guide
  • 40 Inch Tall
  • Galvanized Steel
  • PVC
  • CE Smith

Lighted guide-on posts make it easy to load your boat onto your trailer and safer to transport it at night. They attach to the rear of your trailer and extend out of the water, providing visual targets to center the boat between during loading.

Features:

  • Guideposts assist you in centering your boat as you load it onto your trailer
    • 1-1/2" Diameter, 16-gauge, pre-galvanized steel tubes are covered with 2" PVC piping for strength and durability
    • Simple installation on rear crossmember of trailer frame with included hardware
  • LED lights ease loading process and make trailer more visible at night
    • Glows amber at front, bright red at rear
    • Alerts other drivers to your position
    • Makes trailer easy to see while you are backing it up or loading your boat
    • Features 1-piece, sealed units that are shockproof and waterproof
    • Activates automatically with your trailer's tail lights
    • Longer-lasting and more energy efficient and durable than incandescent lights
  • Simple installation
    • Wires into your trailer's tail lights
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 2 boat guide-ons
  • Application: trailer frames up to 3" wide x 4-1/4" tall
    • 2 Extra-long U-bolt kits (CE11416; sold separately) are required for mounting on frames up to 3" wide x 5-1/4" tall
  • Height: 40"
  • Adjustable out to 13" on each side

Note: Check with your state Department of Transportation for restrictions regarding maximum trailer width.

When your boat trailer has been backed down the ramp and is partially submerged, these 40" tall guideposts that are mounted at the rear corners of the frame will stick out of the water, giving you two highly visible targets to guide your boat between for loading. The built-in LED lights on the posts stand out at night, making it easier for you to load your boat in the dark and for other drivers to see your trailer when you're on the road. The pre-galvanized steel support posts mount horizontally on top of or below your trailer's frame rail. Just slide the posts into the boat guide supports and secure the posts so that the distance between them correctly matches the width of your boat.

Pre-Galvanized Steel

Pre-galvanized steel parts are stamped from a sheet of steel after it has already been galvanized. The edges of the pre-galvanized parts often lose their zinc coating during the stamping process. Because of the thinness of the coating less than 1 mm and the fact that the edges remain exposed, pre-galvanized parts can begin to oxidize and rust quickly, so its recommended that they be primed and painted.

  • Are Roller Bunks or Keel Rollers Needed on the CE Smith Boat Trailer Part # CE48810
The CE Smith Boat Trailer part # CE48810 comes with guide ons which help to center your boat during loading and to hold the boat during transport so I don't really recommend adding anything additional in regards to this aspect because of the size of the boat. However, if you will be launching your boat at night or in the early mornings I recommend using the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights part # CE27740 which will provide visual targets. What I do recommend using is a two...

  • Can Ground Wire of CE Smith Post Guide Ons be Ran to Trailer Frame Easily
The wiring of the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740 is a double bonded wiring setup that you would normally run back to front of trailer. Since it's double bonded though you can separate the wires from each other by pealing them away from each other and then run the ground to the trailer frame wherever works for you and then the power wire to the running light circuit and you'd be set.

They sure do. They're available in several different lengths shorter than the 75 inch high # CE27636 guide-ons that you'd looked at. • Recommendation on Lighted Guide Poles Wired As Stoplights
The CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740 are lighted poles to help guide your boat on to the trailer. CE Smith does have Light Mounting Brackets for Post-Style Boat Trailer Guide-Ons # CE27650A were you could mount a set of stop lights like # 2423056 for right hand side and # 2423006 for the left hand side. These lights can be wired into the stop lights of the trailer. These lights are submersible and contain gaskets to create a weather tight seal. The CE Smith # CE27740 are the only...

  • Lighted Guide On Recommendation for a Boat Trailer
We actually have a product that does exactly what you are looking to do. Check out the CE Smith Guide Ons part # CE27740. These are guide-ons that have LED lights on the tops of them for increased visibility. The PVC of this kit would be strong enough for it's intended purpose of helping guide a boat onto the trailer. As long as you aren't hitting them at too hard of angle you should be just fine. You would probably have bigger problems anyway if you were hitting these hard enough to break...

  • Recommendation for Submersible LED Backup Lights on a Boat Trailer
I can help you add reverse lights to your trailer. Yes, It is important to pay attention to DOT compliance when adding lights on your boat trailer. Compliance will be met if you use the Optronics # BUL10CB light as your backup light. The # BUL72CB is purposed for a utility light and will not meet the criteria for reverse lights on the roadway. In order to add reverse lights to your trailer would would need to have a 7-Way on the trailer and a 7-Way on the vehicle. On the vehicle side,...

  • Why Does Running Light Circuit Get Ran to CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740
If you wired the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740 that you referenced to the stop/turn signal of your trailer wiring they would blink with the blinkers and come on with the brake lights. There's no reason you couldn't do that but as their intended purpose they wouldn't be as effective. Normally these are wired to the running light circuit so that when your tow vehicle has their head lights on (at night) the lights come on to help you guide your boat onto the trailer.

  • Painting Galvanized Steel Brackets for a Boat Trailer
First, I would prime and paint the whole bracket if for nothing else but to make sure it is all uniform. Galvanized steel is going to require certain products to be able to paint it and have the paint last. the first thing you will need to do is clean the galvanized parts with water-based cleaner/degreaser to remove any of the oily film on the parts from the galvanization process. Once clean you will need to use a water-based primer. Do not use a petroleum-based primer because the oil...

  • What Trailer Wiring Circuit Does the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740 Run To
The brown wire of your trailer wiring would be the one that carries the running light circuit. That would be the correct circuit to use for powering the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740. I attached an install video for this product for you to check out as well.

  • Can You Paint the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons
No. In most cases getting paint to stick to the galvanized steel on the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27740 is not going to be possible because of the layer of zinc that's left after galvanization. I don't recommend painting them as it's most likely going to be an exercise in futility.

  • How To Mount The C.E.Smith 40 Lighted Post Guides On A 2x6 inch Trailer Frame
I reached out to my contact at CE Smith and this is not the first time they have had this issue with 2 inches by 6 inch trailer frames. You will have to go with a more customized fit since the CE Smith Extra-Long U-Bolt Kit for Boat Trailer Guide-Ons - Pre-Galvanized Steel - 6" Tall, # CE11416, were too short. • Which CE Smith Post Style LED Guide-Ons To Use
Which CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights for Boat Trailers you'll want to use depends on the height of your boat when it's sitting on the trailer. We don't have craft specific guides for this so you'll want to measure from where you want to install these on the trailer to the top of where the boat sits on it so that you make sure you get something that you can see well. For smaller bass boats that don't sit very high off the water you're typically going to use the 40" tall #...

  • Replacement U-Bolts for CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights for Boat Trailers
U-bolt kit # CE11416 would be the one that you need. But like you said the u-bolts are slightly longer than the originals. If you need to have the shorter ones then you would need the kit, # CE11452-A. It might not be a bad idea to replace the brackets too. If there was enough damage to require new u-bolts then there could be unseen damage to the brackets as well.
