Parts Needed To Flat Tow 1998 GMC Sierra

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/20/2025

Question:

I need to tow our 1998 GMC Sierra flat towed behind our 2019 RAM. I have a weight distribution hitch from yall that I use for our travel trailer. I need a hitch like I see on Jeeps behind RVs. I am NOT comfortable towing the GMC behind the travel trailer like a train. Please advise.

Hey Natalie, thanks for reaching out. We do have the parts you need to flat tow your 1998 GMC Sierra. Here is what I recommend:

- Demco Classic Base Plate Kit - Fixed Arms # DM9518019

- etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # e34ZR

- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267

- Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25

- Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # SM99251

That will cover all the main components. You may need a drop hitch like part # BLU28XR to level your tow bar. If the drop hitch is used, safety cable extensions # RM-910648-10 will also be needed.

Have you flat towed before? Or is this your first time?

Hey Natalie, did you get a chance to try out the flat towing setup for your GMC Sierra? I'm curious to know how it worked for you, as it could help others looking to do the same.
