Saltwater can destroy standard hubs fast, but this one’s made to handle it. The Dexter galvanized idler hub assembly has a zinc coating with a 500-hour salt spray rating that stands up to constant exposure. It’s marine-grade and ideal for trailers that see wet or salty conditions, keeping rust from creeping in and your hub spinning smooth over time.
This hub arrives as a full setup so you can get back on the road without tracking down extra components. It includes inner and outer bearings (L44643), matching races (L44610), grease seal (34823), grease cap, wheel bolts, and galvanized lug nuts. Everything fits together cleanly for a simple install on 2,000-lb axles with BT8 spindles, and the 1,000-lb weight capacity per hub keeps you running steady.
Finding the right replacement hub for an older trailer doesn’t have to be tricky. This unit uses a common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern that mates up easily with 13" to 15" wheels. The hub flange measures 6-1/2", and each stud is 1/2" in diameter and 2" long—easy to match up when checking your setup.
Both bearings share a 1" inner diameter, perfectly matched with the included 1.249" ID × 1.983" OD grease seal. The pre-installed races line up smoothly, so assembly stays clean and accurate. Once greased and torqued down, the result is even rotation that helps prevent premature wear during long trips or frequent water launches.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"
