Features to know about

Replace Failing Brakes Fast: Pre-Assembled 12" x 2" Bolt-On Design

Old, dragging brakes can make towing stressful. The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes come fully pre-assembled for quick bolt-on installation using a standard 5-bolt mounting flange. Each kit includes left-hand and right-hand assemblies ready to mount on most standard hub-and-drum setups rated for 6,000-lb axles and 14-1/2", 15", or 16" wheels. Just connect two wires per side and torque mounting bolts to 30–50 ft-lbs with hardware kit #BRKH12 (sold separately) to get back on the road quickly.

Stay in Tune Automatically: Self-Adjusting Mechanism Maintains Peak Braking Power

Manually crawling under the trailer to tighten brakes is a chore. These self-adjusting assemblies keep your brakes properly tuned as the shoes wear, maintaining reliable contact with the drum and consistent braking feel every trip. A built-in cable and pulley system continuously aligns the shoes, so there’s no need for repeated manual adjustments or uneven wear.

Smooth, Consistent Braking: Durable Magnets and Fully Bonded Pads

Dexter uses fully bonded brake pads for strong braking torque and even pressure across both shoes. The durable magnets deliver steady braking power through your electric brake controller without surging or grabbing. Encased in stamped steel housings with protective adjuster plugs, these brakes stay cleaner inside for dependable operation in real-world towing conditions.

Built for Compatibility and Confidence: CSA Certified and Cross-Brand Fit

Whether you’re replacing worn drums or upgrading from older setups, these electric drum brakes fit most standard hub-and-drum assemblies from Dexter, Lippert (LCI), and others sharing the same pattern. The assemblies meet Canadian Standards Association (CSA) requirements for quality construction and safety assurance, giving you confidence that your braking system is up to the task mile after mile.

We are an handy couple and like performing our trailer maintenance when we can. Updated our 25ft Airstream Intl from original 12x2 Dexter brakes 4500 lb (cracked and spilt brake wiring from age and noticing very little braking power). Updated to 6000 lb self adjusting versions. Extreme difference once burnishing in and braking for 30 miles. Have a few 300mile trips behind us now and the trailer brake gain dropped for 7.5 down to 5 mostly loaded. Possibly need to turn the brake gain down further as the braking is SO much more positive than ever before. Even when the old brakes were better working. Much less worry and stress now towing at any incline or highway speeds.

Glad they are working well for you guys, Dirk! Stopping is pretty important and being able to do so comfortably definitely makes towing less stressful. ^___^ Cool Airstream as well! What the next trip you guys have planned?

First time buyer from etrailer. I was having a hard time navigating through the website as I wanted to make sure I got the correct parts. Kayleigh was the representative that I got. She did an excellent job answering my questions and making sure I got the right parts. I installed the complete tandem axle replacement pieces and everything installed just like it should. Kayleigh made this a great experience and I will use etrailer for any future camper needs.

It has been about a year since installing these trailer brakes, and the install was straightforward on our 2 horse/w-tack room -Featherlite gooseneck as direct replacement parts. We have towed a lot of miles over the past year and they have performed great.

Ordering through etrailer was easy, and the customer service was excellent. When I had questions, I was able to send photos for clarification and get clear answers. Solid product and great support. I would definitely order from etrailer again.

Easiest brake job I ever have done. Product arrived on time and was packaged well. I would recommend these brake replacements to everyone who needs new brakes on there Dexter never adjust system. As you can see in the photo, many of the parts on the this right side were missing. Springs, self adjuster, cable. Removed the drum and five nuts later the whole backer plate was in my hand. Much easier than trying to figure out what's missing then order and replace those parts. Now I have the confidence of having new brakes on that axle. In the spring when I bring my fifth wheel back from Florida I replace the brakes on the front axle too. Hope this helped anyone on the fence about doing this job.

E-trailer was great deal with and shipped these Dexter brake assemblies within a couple days They offered us another brand to save money, but we chose to use the genuine Dexter brand We were able to install them on our fifth wheel camper with no issues.

Everything has been working just fine. I was happy to have been able to receive a quality product from an USA based company. Hoping to get many years of use from my dexter brakes. Thank you!!!!

Replaced surge brakes with Dexter electric trailer brakes, working great so far.

The parts are working fine but did arrive with evidence of rough handling during shipment. The brake shoes were dislodged from the backing plate on two of the assemblies.

2023 Grand Design Reflection Travel Trailer
Perfect match for my Dexter 6K axles on my 2023 GD Reflection 337. Bolt-up went smoothly. No issues with the quality and pre-assembly. Came with new star-washered nuts, long enough brake wiring to make the final connections to my existing wiring, and plugs for the brake adjustment portholes.

I made the initial order online but then added additional items using the phone. I was able to combine the orders easily and all of the items arrived on time. Additionally, the box was intact and was not damaged. The items were packed tightly and in such a way that the items did not move around in the box. Overall, eTralier did an excellent job.

by:
2018 Jayco Eagle Fifth Wheel
Easy removal and replacement. Direct bolt up and wire connections. Nuts were included for the mounting plate. Would have been nice to have new wire nuts for the electrical connections.
by:
bought 3 kits to do the 6 wheels on my triple axle Airstream and it was ezpz to remove the old and bolt on the new.
EXCEPT! One caveat and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5..when i tried to put the hub back on over the second brake assembly it would not fit. It took me an hour to figure out that one of the brake shoes at the top had popped out of place, it had slipped out of the slot where the shoe meets the plunger. So far two of the three I have opened came this way. A light tap with a mallet popped in into place. I still have three to install so we'll see if any more are displaced.
Still, nobody's perfect and I'd order again in a minute. [etrailer] customer service is the best.

Outstanding is the word that comes to mind regarding my experience with the brake kits that I received from etrailer!
I purchased a used Airstream and the brakes were toast.
I called etrailer and spoke to Joseph and he set me up with the kits I needed.
They arrived in 3 days with free shipping and I had all 4 installed in about 2.5 hours on a Saturday morning.
I would definitely do business with these guys again. It was painless!!!

Quick delivery, individually packed. The staff was very helpful with some install and break-in questions I had. I ordered my last set directly from Dexter and they came half-ass packed like someone wrapped them in cardboard. etrailer also gives free shipping (another bonus). Very happy with my purchase.

Perfect replacement for original brakes on my 2019 Jayce 321 RSTS fifth wheel. Why would anyone replace just the shoes when you can replace the entire assembly with 5 bolts and 2 wires.
Trailer was amazing with their support right from the start. I provided them with the axle information and their parts recommendations were spot on. Bearings and seals were also the perfect fit! Thank you Etrailer for your excellent support and parts with super fast delivery.

  • Will the Dexter 23-105-106-09 Fit AL-KO 5200k Axles
The AL-KO brakes can have a few different mounting patterns, so I recommend measuring to double check. I included a picture of how the Dexter # 23-458-459 will measure to compare as well. Odds are these are correct, but it never hurts to double check. If it does end up being different, let me know what measurements you get and I can see what I have available for you.

  • How to Pick Out Brakes for 3,500 lb Boat Trailer with Tandem Axles
Installing brakes on a trailer really isn't too bad. The install is pretty basic and a DIYer like yourself wouldn't have a problem at all. To determine the parts you need though we need to for sure know what axles/spindles you have so that we pick out the right parts. I attached a couple guides for that down below for you to check out. The 175/80-13 tire that you have now is 24" diameter x 6.9" wide and the new 225/75-15 tire is 28.3" diameter x 8.9" wide. Therefore, the new tire size will be 4.3" larger in overall diameter and 2" larger in overall width. However, you will only need to account for half of each measurement so 2.15" for diameter and 1" for width.
