recieved 4 sets of brakes very fast with free shipping, they came completly assembled. goen to install this weekend and it looks like a easy job just bolt on and connect the brake wires,

by:

Easy installation. If one can remove five nuts/assembley and disconnect/reconnect two wires anyone can install these.

by:

Great product, we hope this helps to keep our trailers on the road more and less time in the shop.

Great service from etrailer, very fast shipping!

by:

I installed these brakes on a 31 foot 5th Wheel RV. Brakes were pre assembled makeing installation quick and easy. Just 5 bolts and two wire conections and your done. If you buy all the parts seperately it would cost more, plus more labor.

I ordered a set of four for my tandem axle trailer on a Friday and they arrived on Wednesday. They were Incredibly easy to install! The bolts lined up perfectly, and from start to finish took about two hours, that included repacking the bearings. Best pat is the, MADE IN USA label I am very very pleased so far. I cant wait to try them out and see if the automatic adjustment works. Thanks etrailer!!

by:

I had an idea of what I wanted. I had gathered some #'s off of the backing plate and axle. E trailer helped me find the correct product. I chose to go with the complete backing plate and it fit like a glove. For the little extra in price, it was worth the 5 bolts and nuts to get the job done quicker.
Thanks a bunch.

by:

Received my new 12" Nev-R-Adjust brake assembly in a timely manner. I was finally able to change out all 4 wheels after having braking problems. They work great and no longer have the overload or short singal on my brake controler. Very easy to install. Thanks e-trailer for being there when no one else in my area could help me with the brakeing problems I was haveing.

by:

Easy installation. Works as advertised.

by:

Did a remove and replace. Original Dexter Brake assemblies had curved wear and missing the brake adjusting plugs, getting dust and no doubt water in them from the Airstream plant in Jackson Center, OH. All EIGHT of eight wheels had them missing.

That was my Problem. Now the Cure:

etrailer had two Brake Assembly kits at my door three days after ordering. I installed them today and they work and had supplied five fresh locking bolts and the two plastic brake adjusting plugs.

I am one happy Airstream trailer camper. First time doing brakes on a trailer and it was much easier doing the complete assembly. Will break them in as suggested in their installation instructions.

I recommended etrailer.com on the Airforums.com that Airstream owners follow for information. One member already said he ordered parts, as he did not know how to find what he needed.

Excellent service ordering from my computer. Notice of parts being shipped was emailed to me. Parts were dropped off at my doorstop. If the carton had some glazed doughnuts included... it would have been 5% better.

George J.... you did me right as a first time customer.

by:

Perfect replacement for my 24ft Hallmark trailer. Very easy to install, just bolt on and connect the wires. With the automatic adjustment there is nothing else to do! I recommend putting some extra anti-seize to be on the safe side (I had similar brakes seize up after a big winter in the North East). Also you will need 2 plugs per assembly to cover the adjustment holes (the brakes don't come with any plug and have 2 holes!)

by:

Fast delivery, product fit perfectly and was just as discribed. Purchased 6 never adjust Assy's for 6000 lb axles. Much easier than replacing part by part.

Brake assembly works perfect. Very easy to swap out.

by:

Exact replacement for the airstream 12x 2 brake assembly. Service and delivery were excellent.

by:

New brake assemblies were easier to install than just shoes and price was not much more than shoes. Excellent quality. Work better than originals.

by:

These went on very easy, and worked great right out of the box. It was nice to have them all match. I spliced them in a couple days before going on a 1,000+ mile vacation to Arizona. They've worked flawlessly (I check them to make sure they aren't hung up). This was just one headache eliminated for the trip by just getting new brakes instead of messing around with junky old ones. We've had the toyhauler out on several other trips also. I will purchase again if I need any for another trailer.

The brakes have been working great. After the initial installment and adjustment, I havent had to do any additional work to any of them. They are performing great, really better than I expected. I always test them with my brake controller when I first get back on the road and they have always worked. I have recd a few of my friends to buy any parts they need from your website as it was easy and had lots of options trailer stores around here are pretty limited.

Great price and delivered quickly.

  • Initial Adjustment Of Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brakes
When you install Nev-R-Adjust drum brakes like Dexter part # 23-458 and part # 23-459 the initial setup will be different. The Nev-R-Adjust has a small lever that prevents the brake star wheel from backing off as you do when you adjust standard brakes. With the Nev-R-Adjust brakes, you simply turn the wheel backwards after everything is installed, until you get a slight drag. If you continue turning the wheel it would keep adjusting the brakes until it locks the wheel. You would then...

  • Troubleshooting Weak Brakes on 2008 Everest After Having Bearings Repacked
Either they somehow got grease on your brakes and they aren't working because of that or the brakes are way out of adjustment. Are the brakes manual adjust or self -adjust? If they are self adjust they should start working again after a several brake applications while moving. If they are manual adjust you'd want to click the star wheel of the assemblies until you feel a light drag as you turn the wheel by hand. Either way though I'd recommend speaking with the shop you had work on the...

  • What Is The Difference Between the 6K and 7K Dexter Axle Electric Brake Assemblies
You are correct, the difference between the Electric Brake Assembly for 6K Axles, part # 23-458 / 23-459 and the Electric Brake Assembly for 7K axles, part # 23-180 / # 23-181, is that the 7K brake assembly has a stronger magnet, and also has a different compound on the brake shoes than the 6K electric brake assemblies for more stopping power. Both the 6k and 7K brake assemblies, fit the same axle. Yes, the 7K backing plates on part # 23-180 / 23-181, will fit on 6K pound axles.

  • Bolt Torque Specification for Mounting a 12 Inch Brake Assembly
According to Dexter Axle, the attachment bolts for a 12 x 2 brake assembly should be torqued to 25-50 foot/lbs. If you don't have a torque wrench handy, if you tighten the bolts until the lock washers flatten out, you'll be pretty darn close to that range.

  • Recommended Suspension Upgrade for Grand Design 17MKE Travel Trailer
Since your Grand Design 17MKE has a GVWR of 6,395 lbs, you more than likely have 3,500 lb axles. That being the case, the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit # RM-2460-2560 will not fit your travel trailer. Although Roadmaster does not have a kit like this for 3,500 lb axles, I do have another option. I recommend the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2450 which are designed for 3,500 lb axles. Your trailer will need to have the leaf springs...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Hub That Gets Hotter Than Other Hubs and Adjustment is Good
It's possible the castle nut that holds the hub to the spindle is too tight which is creating too much friction as the wheel turns, or it's also possible that the hub doesn't have enough grease in it. The castle nut on the hub is only supposed to be tight enough that it holds the hub onto the spindle and the cotter pin is what prevents it from backing off. You might check to see how difficult it would be to remove that nut as it should turn pretty easily. If it's on there loose enough...

  • Comparing etrailer/AxleTek and Dexter Electric Brake Assemblies
The biggest difference between Dexter brake assembly # 23-459 and etrailer/AxleTek assembly # AKEBRK-7L-SA is the pad material. The Dexter assemblies use pads that are snapped off of a long strand of the material. The ones on the etrailer assemblies are cut. The benefit of cutting the pads to length is that they have clean edges and that means you won't see those fine line cracks in the material or pad corners breaking off so the pads last longer. The pads are also a little thicker on...

  • Where Should Brake Controller Gain be Set at After Install of Nev-R-Ajust Brake Assemblies
Hey John, that will depend on how strong the brakes grab once they are fully adjusted. So what that means is you'll probably have to set the gain higher initially and then slowly lower the gain as you apply the brakes more and more times as they will get tighter with every application.

  • Why Are Dexter Trailer Brake Assemblies More Expensive
The higher cost of Dexter electric brakes like the Nev-R-Adjust # 23-459 definitely has a lot to do with their name. The name is so recognizable in the industry because they have been around for a very long time, their parts are extremely reliable, and they are made right here in the USA. With that being said the more cost-efficient options we offer still do a great job. • How to Pick Out Nev-R-Adjust Self Adjusting Brake Assemblies for a Trailer
To pick out brake assemblies for your trailer you are going to need to know two things about your current trailer setup. You will need to know the size of your current brake assemblies (most likely 12 inch by 2 inch), and the bolt pattern of the brake mounting flanges of your trailer (most likely 5-bolt). I attached a picture that shows where to measure. All that's left to do would be to count the amount of bolts that hold the assemblies to the flange. It should be either 5 or 4. Most...

It won't require finding new connection points for your springs, building outer wells, or adding different springs. So consider this Plan B. • Why a Bigger Trailer Magnet for Electric Brakes is not Always Needed
Your best option for a brake assembly is the one that matches the capacity of your trailer. Yes, the 7k Dexter brake assembly # 23-181 is going to have a more powerful brake magnet than 6k assembly like the Brake Assembly part # 23-459, but having a more powerful magnet can make it more difficult for your trailer to stop smoothly as the bigger magnet will want to grab harder than the smaller one. The magnet actuator arm should point towards the front of the trailer. So for # 23-459 as an example based on placement of the brake assembly that has the magnet arm pointed forward you can tell this is a right hand assembly. If you do have...
