I ordered a complete 4 Brake and Hub kit to replace my old brakes on my Toy Hauler. My wife and I go fron Florida to the Black Hills and visit our family there as wells as enjoy the Sturgis Bike Rally as well as the beautiful country. Madison M. and Robert R. assisted me in getting the correct replacement brakes and even saved me money on making the whole package up with no issues, even answered my numerous questions. Once I received the complete set I noticed to hub rear seals damaged in shipping. I ordered replacements seal and Madison was on it and will refund my seals! Good Job all around by Madison and Robert! Thanks Very Much.


Replaced old non-self-adjusting trailer brake assemblies with new self-adjusting ones. See photos of old & new. TIP: Temporarily tape new wires out of the way to avoid pinching them between the axle flange and backing plate when mounting the new brake assemblies (ask me how I know).



Brakes are still working great


These went on very easy, and worked great right out of the box. It was nice to have them all match. I spliced them in a couple days before going on a 1,000+ mile vacation to Arizona. They've worked flawlessly (I check them to make sure they aren't hung up). This was just one headache eliminated for the trip by just getting new brakes instead of messing around with junky old ones. We've had the toyhauler out on several other trips also. I will purchase again if I need any for another trailer.



The brakes have been working great. After the initial installment and adjustment, I havent had to do any additional work to any of them. They are performing great, really better than I expected. I always test them with my brake controller when I first get back on the road and they have always worked. I have recd a few of my friends to buy any parts they need from your website as it was easy and had lots of options trailer stores around here are pretty limited.


Perfect replacement for my 24ft Hallmark trailer. Very easy to install, just bolt on and connect the wires. With the automatic adjustment there is nothing else to do! I recommend putting some extra anti-seize to be on the safe side (I had similar brakes seize up after a big winter in the North East). Also you will need 2 plugs per assembly to cover the adjustment holes (the brakes don't come with any plug and have 2 holes!)


I bought these brakes to replace the hydraulic brakes on my newly purchased (at DOD auction) M1102 trailer. The OEM eq was almost new (2010 model) but I wanted to remove the hydraulic surge brakes for electric. They are a perfect fit and easy to install. Would have been nice to have the dust covers for the back of the housing.

I ordered a new electric brake assembly #23-458 and 12" drum kit #K08-201-98 for a 5200lb Dexter E-Z lube axle. All parts arrived on time and were correct. Ordering through Etrailer was fairly easy once I learned to navigate their site because there are a few variations to the parts I specifically needed for my axle. It helps if you have part numbers for your axle to compare with the ones on their site. I would liked to have had a place to enter my axle type, number, etc. and just have all the parts available for it displayed. Or perhaps an online chat page with a sales rep would be great too. All and all, I highly recommend and will definitely use Etrailer in the future.



Update: After a year and over 3500mi, my brakes appear to be working properly. With that said, I haven’t pulled my drums off for a thorough inspection. But so far so good.


Best thing about this brake kit is it's made in the USA. No hassle ordering and quick delivery. Did the front axle this month, doing rear axle next month.


Easy to install and set


Item: 23-458: This item Is a replacement for my 5th wheel camper. Do to the fact while traveling the brake did not release and failed on interstate I-40 late in the evening.The heat caused all the parts on the spindle to fail. The cost of replacing brakes, drum, bearing, seals, grease, plus service cost is Very Expensive after hours. Having these items on hand can save a lot of time and money.

These are well built, easy to install brake assemblies. I had to adjust them after installation as they would not self adjust as the video states. We put these never adjust brakes on after we removed the manual adjust brakes from our Cargo Trailer converted to a RV. We then installed the never adjust electric brakes and broke them in according to the instructions. We then started and completed a 19,400 mile trip from Florida to California then to Washington then to the UP of Michigan then to the Adirondack Mountains of NY and then back to Florida. We never had a problem with the brakes. We visited 17 National Parks, 7 state parks and numerous national forests. Great trip with no problems.


Only one small glitch,self adjusting cable was not installed properly on two of the brake assemblies.No big problem just had to redo brake assembly



Working fine. Only problem I had is with the seals. Pulling hubs to repack bearings found all four seals leaking. May have been a bad batch. Fortunately was able to locate seals locally, although at a higher price


Wanted to wait until after our most recent trip with our trailer before giving you the one year follow-up. Just pulled the trailer almost 1000 miles in the Rocky Mountains. The Nev-R-Adjust brakes & drums worked great and I felt very confident in their performance. I really appreciate not having to crawl under the trailer to adjust the brakes. All are good products and I would recommend them to all.


I bought a trailer that had been home-fabricated using the axles from an old horse trailer. The axles had the remnants of electric trailer brakes, but the guts were missing. I was preparing to move from Pennsylvania to Montana, and intended to tow the trailer with a boat and some loose ends, and I wanted to have the security of brakes. Although I had never attempted to do an installation of this type, there were some helpful youtube videos to guide me. The installation went well, albeit slowly, mostly due to my inexperience, and the brakes proved to work well. The drive west was smooth, and the trailer has proved to be very useful out here. As far as I can tell, everything continues to work perfectly.


Great product and easy to install. Make sure you adjust the brake at installation and follow the brake in directions. After that they automatically adjust on their own. It’s nice not having to jack up the 5th wheel to manually adjust every 2000 miles as per the manufacturer. It’s also a good time to inspect your bearings and replace with American made bearings if needed. I did everything, brakes, bearings, grease seals and races. Be sure to use a good high temperature grease. Safe travels :)


Installed these brakes on my Bobcat trailer. Use it at least once a week. Utilizing a Prodigy controller, also bought from etrailer, the trailer's braking is excellent, the control on down hills and turns is perfect. The installation was flawless, and simple. Redid the wiring, also bought from etrailer, while I was installing the new brakes and everything works as it should. Stops first time, every time. Quick shipment, super easy to install. Remove 5 bolts, cut the wires and the old one comes off. Tighten 5 bolts, reconnect the wires and put the drum back on.

Ordered 4 of the Nev-R-Adjust brake assemblies to replace my squeaking brakes on my 31 foot 5th wheel. I ordered them on normal shipping which was 7 to 9 days. After order was shipped I recieved an e-mail that my shipping had been upgraded and I should recieve the brake assemblies in 3-5 days. I ordered on a Wed AM and received them on my door step Friday PM. The brakes were easy to install and by viewing the dexter brake install information the setup was easy. Just returned from the 1st trip and brakes worked well and with no sqeaking. Brakes were the best price on saw on the internet. Great job etrailer and dexter.

    Yes it sure will. The Dexter # 23-458-459 consists of both the right and the left 6K 12 inch self-adjusting brake assemblies. Part # 23-458-00 (or # 23-458 which is the number we use) would only include the left hand brake assembly.   • Blown Brake Controller Fuse in 2015 Silverado Connected to Re-Wired Trailer with Electric Brakes
    Since you replaced the trailer 7-way plug that is not likely to be the issue, but something further downstream in the brake wiring, or the re-wired brakes themselves, appears to be causing a short that is blowing your brake controller fuse. A little grease on your brake magnet should not cause the truck fuse to blow but it is still a good idea to carefully clean it off the magnet.     It wouldn't cause failure but having the brake assembly installed 90 degrees out from where it normally should be could cause either the brakes to be a bit more touchy or slightly less responsive depending if the magnet was in front of the direction of travel or behind. If you had a hub come off of a spindle while traveling it would not have been because of the assemblies being installed in the wrong orientation.

    The drag you are referring to would be the shoes of the brake assembly on the drum with the brakes not being applied. You would not need to have the brakes activated to adjust them either. Make sure that the spindles are also well greased since heat can transfer from there and not just the bearings.     The brakes should still work fairly well. The magnets, when energized, cling to the armature surface of the drum and the rotations of the drum pull the magnet which then pushes out the shoes to make contact with the drum. If the brakes seem weak then you could adjust them out to be a little more aggressive to compensate for the little bit of the magnet not making contact with the drum. And if that still is not enough then you would need to replace the drums.

For most applications you'd want the front axle of the tandem axle trailer to be the brake axle but if it's a boat trailer (particularly with an outboard motor) you'd want it to be the rear axle.
