The 7K Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes, which comes in a set with both the Left Hand and Right Hand assemblies included as part # 23-464-465, can certainly be installed on your 6K axle assuming its 5 bolt pattern matches your existing flanges. In terms of size and bolt pattern these are indeed interchangeable with the Dexter 6K # 23-458-459.

You are correct that the difference between the two sets just comes in their braking strength since they are meant to stop different trailer weights. The 7K assemblies will have a bit of a stronger magnet for more aggressive braking along with a higher rated shoe.

I have attached a couple video demonstrations that you can check out as well.

hey Chris im in the same boat.. want to get the 23-458 for my 5th wheel camper that has the 5200lb axles but cant get them here in canada. im told i can do the 23-464 but the magnet is stronger. would i then just adjust the controller on the truck? less of the gain on the controller? J

@JayW Hey Jay, that's a good question. You can technically use the higher-rated 7K # 23-464-465, instead. It'll fit physically just like the 6K assemblies, but like you mentioned, the magnet will be a bit stronger so the braking might be a little harsh. You can offset that a little by adjusting the gain down on your brake controller. Basically, everything you said....I don't think this will be a big deal if it's your only option.
