Towing? There's an app for that. This brake controller connects to your phone with Bluetooth so all your settings are right in your hand. The unit plugs into your 7-way for a one-step installation with no wiring.
Features:
Specs:
Note: If Bluetooth connection is lost, the brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The Curt Echo is unique for its plug-and-play installation. With no wiring or permanent installation, setting up the Echo is a breeze.
The main unit plugs into the 7-way at the rear of your vehicle and then the 7-way trailer connector plugs into it. Use the included strap, found inside the cap, to secure the Echo in place. It will help ensure a constant connection between vehicle and trailer.
That done, download the OneControl app on your Apple or Android smartphone and wirelessly pair the unit to your phone via Bluetooth, following the in-app instructions. It should take about 5 seconds for them to pair. Once paired, the LED light on the unit will turn a solid blue. Plug in your trailer's 7-way and let the whole system calibrate for another 5 seconds. When the LED turns green, configure your desired trailer brake settings in the app and save it as a profile. Then you're ready to tow!
Note: If you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle, check out our exclusive 7-way upgrade kit for brake controller installation (ETBC7L - sold separately).
Besides the crazy-easy installation, the Echo is unique for giving you control of your towing through your smartphone. You can set the maximum braking output, adjust the braking sensitivity, apply the manual override - all from the OneControl app.
Completely wireless, the Echo connects to the app via Bluetooth. You can save multiple towing profiles in the app, a big plus if you have a fleet and want to be able to just select a pre-set configuration and get towing. And don't worry; after you've downloaded the app, you don't need to have data on to use the app with the brake controller. You'll be able to receive calls and texts and access your other apps.
OneControl App
Simple, intuitive, and user-friendly, the OneControl App makes it wicked easy to manage your settings and control your trailer.
1. Manual Override
This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle's brakes. This is perfect for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in an emergency.
Quick tip: Put manual override right at your fingertips by adding this button (C83HR - sold separately) to your dash. The app must be running for the button to work, but it can be in the background while you use other apps on your phone. The button has an adhesive back and runs on a replaceable battery.
2. Brake Output Indicator
The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes. This is determined by your max output setting.
3. Max Output
Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop.
To set your maximum braking output, tap this button and increase or decrease using the + and - buttons. You want to set the braking output as high as you can without locking up the brakes.
4. Sensitivity Level
This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level. This is a great adjustment to make when you're towing a heavy load and the trailer will need more umph to bring it to a stop so it doesn't push your vehicle forward.
Just like max output, if you need to change your sensitivity level, use the + and - buttons. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting. If it stops too abruptly, lower the setting. You may also need to adjust the sensitivity based on your own preferences, or when the trailer load or road conditions change.
5. Vehicle Hazard Lights
If you turn on your vehicle's hazard lights, there's a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.
Save Multiple Trailer Profiles
Get on the road faster by saving your settings. With the app, you can add and store multiple profiles for both trailers and vehicles so that your preferred settings will be ready to go as soon as you hook up. This is perfect if you own a fleet and don't want to have to reset the controller every time you swap out trucks, trailers, or drivers. You'll have the ideal settings saved and waiting for you. To switch between profiles, just swipe left or right.
If you like the idea of monitoring your trailer from your phone, the other OneControl systems could be a great fit for you.
The Curt True Course (C94VV - sold separately) is an advanced Bluetooth sway control system that automatically triggers the trailer brakes (independent of the vehicle's brakes and the brake controller) when it detects dangerous trailer movement. The Curt Tire Linc (C54VV - sold separately) Bluetooth TPMS monitors the temperature and pressure of your trailer tires. All of these systems use the OneControl app so you can manage all of them in the same place on your phone.
The LED indicator light on the top of the plug-in module will show you when the brake controller is connected. You can also check the LED for simple diagnostics when you need to troubleshoot.
Because the Echo mounts outside the vehicle, it's designed for maximum weather resistance. The unit is filled with an epoxy resin that seals off the internal components from moisture and the elements. The Echo also has a soft locking tab for connecting to your 7-way plug that reduces vibration and helps ensure a constant connection.
Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes hard; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.
The Echo uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to ensure that your trailer slows at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

Towing? There's an app for that. This brake controller connects to your phone with Bluetooth so all your settings are right in your hand. The unit plugs into your 7-way for a one-step installation with no wiring.Installation and pairing with my mobile phone Android ver 9 was straightforward I want to try also with my other phone version 5 Android that has bluetooth even the manufacturer not recommends. I drove my trainer RV for about 500 miles and did some adjustments while driving to feel the trailer brakes engaged. So far this device is expectedly very good and see very easy on phone the trailer brakes are engaged. I don't see why it comes with manual braking when click that red button on phone screen, because when you do car's brakes the app on the phone does the same thing on trailer's brakes, I secured the device with that rubber band and my trailer connector with a Velcro band wrapped a fee times. I am happy with the purchase.
This device makes it in every easy to control the brakes on your camper. I considered installing a typical under dash style, but this option is a once and done purchase for all my future 7-pin trailer brake controlling needs. It connects effortlessly to my phone via bluetooth. There are multiple profiles in the app for different vehicle/trailer combinations. So simple.

After about two years of use this controller is still super simple and effective. I dont even need to go into the app since it remmbers the previous settings on the device. Essentially flawless.
I think the product probably works (based on many reviews) but i will never know because I was unable to pair it with the app despite multiple efforts. I would get a notification that the device was out of range while i held my phone within a foot of it during setup. It was properly powered and I even got a brief message and light indication it was pairing. But that was it.It never worked. I was forced to make my 1,200 mile journey without brake control.

John, I did reach out to Curt about your experience with the Echo and did receive a suggestion for it to link. 1. Make sure that the ECHO is forgotten in your Bluetooth settings. 2. Delete the OneControl App from your phone. 3. Restart your phone. 4. Plug the ECHO into the vehicle - it should be blinking blue 5. Open your Bluetooth settings and see if you can see the ECHO brake controller in the list of visible items [Do not connect to it directly]. 6. Download the OneControl App from the app store. 7. Open the OneControl App and Sign-in 8. Delete all of the profiles if your sign-in account has any made. 9. The OneControl App should be attempting to find the ECHO now. 10. Authorize it to be connected to, should be 3 or 4 approve screens. 11.The ECHO should be solid blue no that it is connected to the App. If you have an Android - it is the same steps however you will need an Android 9.0 or higher OS. If this does not work please let me know.
I really like the wireless brake controller. I got it because I did not want to hard wire one in for a trailer I only pull 4 or 5 times a year. So I got this wireless brake controller and down loaded the app to my phone and plugged it in to my truck and set it up. So far it has worked great, the one thing that you have to get use to is the delay. Wance you push on the brakes there is a little delay before the trailer brakes apply. That is the only thing that I have found that is different from a hard wire controller.
The factory brake controller on our 2014 Ram 3500 would never give us good braking for our 5th wheel. The best voltage that the controller would provide to the electric brakes was just under 10 volts; and that was at full settings. Dealer said that this year vehicle never would give more voltage.
This etrailer brake controller was not only easy to set up, it does a fantastic job stopping our trailer.
Finally peace of mind towing.

Still works great. Nice to have confidence in the ability to stop as necessary in any circumstances.
I've tried every troubleshooting method described on etrailer and other blogs to get this to work, but always the same result. At max output 5 I get no braking, at output 10 it completely locks up the instant I tap my brakes. Already threw away box and hope I can get $[XX] back. But that won't solve the fact that I don't have a brake controller for my 12 hr round trip in 2 days.
I like the fact that I have a proportional brake controller I can stick in my glove box. It doesn’t have to be hardwired to the vehicle which is nice because I can use it on different applications. This one is definitely a plus over time delay brake controllers.

After an initial issue and replacement, the product has worked very well. Having an adjustable proportional controller that you can throw in your glove box is pretty handy. It’s response time is very quick.
Have had this brake controller for about a year now. It was a good choice for me going from a truck with a built in controller to one without. There is strain on the controller when connected to the trailer. I add some zip-ties to help support it. The strap that comes with it offers little support, but does secure it to the hinged receptacle cover.
5 star rating for functionality. Works as advertised.
3 star rating for support/durability.
I purchased this because Chevy does not include a plug-in adapter for a brake controller on the Chevy Traverse, even though we had the factory-installed tow package. I did not want to, nor did I want anyone else to, splice into the factory wiring. So I bought this unit.
Easy to install (including app setup) and after reading numerous comments and Q&A from the eTrailer site here, I followed the directions to make sure I plugged this unit into the vehicle FIRST...and then plugged in the trailer. Zero problems.
Unit was set at 30 max output and 5 sensitivity and worked to perfection (Chevy Traverse with factory tow package to allow 5K lbs towing, hauling a 3200 lb trailer). Unit would occasionally (2-3 times the entire trip of 1000 miles?) lose the Bluetooth connection but always remembered the last setting. Also always had the prior setting on re-connect.
It would appear to me that prior issues (to 2021) have been rectified, given my experience. I actually felt better about fine-tuning this unit over the under-dash mounted one in my truck.
Upon figuring out while we were on the road, that my vehicle wasn't connecting to the trailer brakes I bought the Curt wireless brake controller. Download the app, plug in the controller, easy easy. Connected right away. Felt the difference right off the bat. Highly recommend.
Had issues with it losing connectivity with the etrailer 7 pin connector. Bit the bullet and hard wired a controlloer into the system.
Connected quickly & didn't drop once on our first 3 hour trip! I was able to adjust the braking percentage & sensitivity on the fly until I dialed it in perfectly. Couldn't be happier! (2019 Chevy Silverado connected to a 2024 Nucamp Tab 320S)
I have been using the Curt Echo wireless brake controller for about a year now and it has performed flawlessly. My only dislike is that if you open or use another app on the phone running the trailer brake app, you have to re-establish the Bluetooth connection in order to operate the brakes manually. I have never had to use the manual brake operation and my trailer is so small that it won't likely be an issue, but if you are towing a larger tailer that could experience sway, then you would want a separate device to run the brake app exclusively (an old phone for example, you won't need cell service).
Purchased this brake controller as I had a specific trip where I was going to be at the limit of tow capacity for my Toyota Tacoma. It was a 4000 mile round trip. The ease of setup and use has made this controller a standard item whenever I am towing. The additional safety provides me a sense of security and confidence whenever I have even light loads to just haul around town.
We have been using the Echo wireless brake controller for about a year with our little travel trailer. In general it works well, no problems with the installation or connection to our phones. There is a little rubber strap that supposedly keeps it attached to the vehicle, but it is pretty useless. We keep a bunch of 1cm wide zip ties in the car in order to secure the unit to our car.

The echo wireless works well. It is easy to setup for different trailers or road conditions. The new software update improves connectivity. The little safety strap that it came with is long gone, and it was useless to begin with. I just keep a bag of zip ties in the car to secure the echo to the cars seven pin connector.
I was skeptical of the product , as there were a few poor reviews. But , I am fully satisfied with this brake controller. The app stays open on my phone , and I can control my trailer brakes at will. Or use it with my tow vehicle braking system.
This product works! And it is easily transferable to any tow vehicle.
Great job curt!!
Received my Curt Echo wireless brake controller promptly, with thanks to the etrailer folks for excellent service. App download, install, and setup was simple and straightforward. The unit paired seamlessly with my BMW X5 factory 7-prong connection, with no need for an extra power line. Once plugged in and the app synced, the unit calibration was easy, and the manual brake function button worked fine. Basically, the unit worked just as needed.
Only tiny issue which came up was that after several days on the road, the small post on the rubber strap which stretches around the unit to secure it broke off, rendering the rubber strap useless. A simple velcro strap will serve the same purpose, no worries. (That’s why only 4 stars.)
All in all, a great product.
Works perfect with Jeep Wrangler and Rp od!

Still doing great and have recommended to friends .
Electronics work perfectly, but finding it difficult to keep the trailer cable attached to the controller. I also don’t trust the unit to stay connected to my car plug using the rubber strap provided with the brake controller. It’s too stretchy it seems, becoming unhooked easily. Overall very happy that this product was invented and works as advertised. Improve the ability to securely connect the unit to the car and trailer cable to the unit, I would give 5 stars.
I have owned the Curt Echo WBC for one year now and have been impressed with the versatility of the product. I use it with multiple trailers and vehicles. My only ding is making sure to provide support for the contoller as it is heavy for the plug in and I'm always concened that it will vibrate out. So far, that has not occured.
For those with new GMC’s or Chevrolet’s with the repeated “Trailer Brake Disconnected” message this could be your best solution. I’m still a little uneasy about a trailer brake brake signal via Bluetooth as opposed to direct connection however I just tested it today and it worked very well.
My thanks to Alex at eTrailer for his knowledgeable assistance.
I wanted to like this product but it didn’t meet expectations.
First delivery was fast so that was a good point. The actual product was disappointing. Ap was easy to use but the unit itself needs a better way to stay hooked up to vehicle and trailer. The strap provide to keep unit in place was so flimsy, I ended up using zip ties to keep it from sagging. With even the smallest sag the unit would get disconnected enough where it no longer would talk to the phone ap. Even with zip ties I had to stop more times then I cared to to get it reconnected. Great concept, needs better way to keep it connected.
This was very easy to get set up - just had to plug it into our Volvo V90 and then plug the trailer in for it to register. The app is very easy to use and the default setting was pretty close to what we ended up needing. I also like the security strap for a bit of extra peace of mind particularly because the Volvo hidden hitch means the trailer connection is at a right angle to the hitch unlike most vehicles.
Could not get controller to sync with the app on my phone. After reading many negative reviews on this product I decided to return it. Fantastic service from etrailer though. Quinn at etrailer sold me on the Redarc brake controller, which I am very satisfied with in my Subaru Crosstrek. The local installer was also impressed with the Redarc.
Customer service response is prompt. Order arrived quickly. I’ve attached, synced, and tested the controller on my 2020 Tacoma, pulling my 16ft travel trailer. Lights and app indicate it is working. I’m still testing adjustments, as I’ve never used a brake controller. I saw some reviews that complained about brake pulsing at low speeds. I have NOT experienced this problem. Manual actuation works well at low speed. Information says app must run in the foreground. I’m trying to determine what that means. Can I open the app and switch to another app, or does the app need to stay on constant display?

Yes! The app should be the one on constant display on your phone screen; the one you are viewing. It looks like the reason is if its running in the background, if you have a different app on display while towing, it can cause delays in breaking times. Best to be safe and just run the OneControl Auto app when towing.
