Can I Use the Curt Shock Absorbing Towing Kit w Sway Control on a Audi Q8?

Published 02/10/2025

Question:

You guys have been very helpful. We have a 2021 Audi Q8 and a 2022 Geo Pro 19FDS RV. Will this part C57DR work for our application? Did view the previous etrailer q8 recommendations. What is the best solution?

Hey Andy, welcome back! The last time we spoke you were looking at the Stealth Hitch item # 391AUDQ818T. If this is what you ended up installing on your Audi Q8 then no you will not be able to use the Curt Shock Absorbing Towing Kit w Sway Control, Wireless Brake Controller item # C57DR. The ball mount you have is not going to be compatible.

You will be able to use the Curt Wireless Brake Controller item # C51180 though. As far as sway control on an Audi you're going to be limited to electronic with that Stealth Hitch. The Tuson Trailer Sway Control System item # 335TSC-1000, is going to be your best option. It uses sensors to continuously monitor your trailer for any type of sway, detecting it as soon as it begins and activating your brakes to control it.

If your Audi came with a factory hitch with a standard 2" receiver, then completely disregard what I said. The Curt Shock Absorbing Towing Kit w Sway Control, Wireless Brake Controller item # C57DR will work with a standard 2" class III hitch.

If you have any additional questions or concerns feel free to add them to the comment box below and I will be happy to address them.

Hi Jerred, Thank you for your fast response. I did not require the Stealth Hitch since then I purchased a 2021 Q8 with the factory hitch. So, the Curt Shock Absorbing Towing Kit w Sway Control, Wireless Brake Controller item # C57DR will be purchased. Do you have the information to determine the Drop, or rise, for mating the Q8 with 22" wheels to my 2022 Geo Pro 19FDS? Andy

@CanS You're welcome! The only information I would have on that subject is you want the coupler and ball mount to be as close to the same height as possible. I do not know how tall your trailer's coupler or Audi is. I have linked a faq article below that will walk you through the process.
