Recommended Brake Controller For A 2013 Toyota Tacoma With Factory Tow Package

Question:

Hello. I was about to purchase the CURT brake controller. But reading the reviews, Im now very concerned about the recent software change. The reviews are awful! I have been researching this for a while and had my mind made up. Now Im very concerned... 2013 Tacoma WITH tow package. Thanks - Jeanie

Hey Jeanie,

The reviews aren't false, the app that allows you to adjust your brake settings on the Curt Echo # C51180 has been having a lot of issues pairing to the phone. With you having the tow package you really should just get a dash mounted brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR.

This brake controller has a tiny little control knob to mount to the dash so that you won't have a bulky box to hit you knee on. with the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # RED49FR installation will only take a few minutes.

Hi Kevin. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. I spoke with folks at CURT and was reassured about the Echo controller. I guess we'll see because I already purchased it and I leave Wed 6/12. Really no time for me to change it up now. I'll provide a review after my trip. Thank you...

Second reply - I looked on your site at the controller you mentioned. It's listed as NOT being a fit for 2013 Toyota Tacoma? J.

@JeanieI If you looked up just the brake controller # RED24FR without the plug-and-play wire harness # RED49FR or universal splice-in wire harness included the fitguide will say it's not a confirmed fit, even though it still is.
