Video Transcript for Curt 2 Inch Long Shank ChromeHitch Bal Review

Adam: What's going on, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt two-inch trailer ball. The ball is going to be made of a heat-treated steel. So it's going to be extra strong and tough, and it also has a nice chrome finish to help it resist against rust and corrosion over time. The things that we need to be able to use this ball. It's a two-inch ball, we need a two-inch coupler. If you guys don't have one, we do have one here at etrailer.

Just go on our website and pick one if you need to. Another thing to think about is the ball mount that we're going to be using with the ball. One thing that is a limiting factor, we need to make sure that the ball mount is going to have a hole of a diameter of one inch and nothing smaller because this will not be able to go through. The threaded portion of the shank of the ball is going to be about one inches in diameter and it is going to be about two-and-a-quarter-inches long. So we want to make sure that we have this little section right here is not going to be any thinner than three-eighth of an inch, but we don't really want to get something that's really, really thick either. What we're going to need to be able to haul safely is three different components that are going to be meshing together properly.

What I mean by that is I have my hitch here, it's rated for 5,000 pounds. I bought a ball mount, it's rated for 5,000 pounds, but this ball does have a capacity of 12,000 pounds, which is exceeding all of my other equipment. This does not mean we could put 12,000 pounds on this ball. The rest of my components aren't that sturdy and strong. So we want to make sure that we get the right ball for our equipment.

So just be mindful of that so we're all hauling safely. What I like to do when installing the balls, all we really want to do, I just like to put it in there, and then just put that lock washer in the nut, just get it tightened down with your hands. And now, this is just me, I like to have these flat sides nice and symmetrical with the ball mount that we're using, so what I do, you don't have to do this, it's what I do, so slide it in to a vice, make sure you get it tightened down on that flat part of the ball. This way, it's not going to rotate on us and I can use both of my hands to tighten this down. So what I suggest getting, if you guys don't already have one, is just get a torque wrench, because there is going to be some specifications in our instructions that we want to hit. It's a rather high torque rating.

So definitely go ahead and get a bigger torque wrench. It's going to make it a lot easier on you. And if you don't have a vice, it also makes it a lot easier on you as well.I am going to be using one-and-a-half-inch big socket, and that's going to fit perfectly up and over top of here. So pretty much all you got to do is set your torque wrench to the torque setting that's in the instructions. Then take your tool and start tightening it down. All right, we're close. There we go. Now we're pretty much ready and that's going to do it for a look at the two-inch Curt hitch ball.

I neeed to pull a trailer with my 2019 GMC Yukon. I found Etrailer.com and followed the instructions on determining the drop of the hitch, the instructions were spot on. I hooked up my trailer to my Yukon today, all was level and worked perfectly. I had driven around to Napa, Lowe’s, Home Depot and Walmart, and nobody had the 9” drop hitch I needed. Came back to Etrailer, bought the 2” ball and pin, and the Curt 9” drop hitch. I received the items quickly. Great website, Thanks, Craig

Super impressed with the service and timeliness of your organization. Found y’all randomly on google and you are super legit. Helpful website, helpful recs, customer reviews. Customer service great too. Forgot part of my order (wiring harness) and it was overnighted, arrived on time. Everything on point. Keep it up. The hitch itself was easy enough to install. Had to really use some PBlaster on the rear most holes and ended up needing an impact to get the job done. Beware kinda hard with just hand tools if the receiving holes are rusty,

I received this hitch the next day during the vivid-19 pandemic. It was very easy to install. 2020 Subaru Outback Pull the small rear panel off the bumper, remove 6 bolts and slip the hitch in between the bumper bar and the frame, tighten the new bolts in (not the stock bolts) and put everything back together. The reason there is a open hole on the hitch is because you cannot remove the bumper bar without removing the whole back end which would be a royal pain. The brake wiring connector is right on the rear part of the spare tire compartment on the passenger side. It was hard to find but it just all snapped together. Awesome product, awesome service!!

What a great experience. I was surprised to get an email from customer service noting a potential mistake I made concerning part incompatibility in my order (wrong hitch ball size). I was very grateful she caught that and quickly responded to my request that the correct part be substituted. My only concern now is how I'm supposed to deal with all the other companies when the bar for customer service has been raised so high.

Worked great for towing my 23 foot boat. If you need a ball get this one.

Attractive chrome finish on very sturdy steel ball. Arrived with lock washer and nut attached with suggestions for errorless use. Should provide adequate towing service.

- 40038
by:

Seems like a quality piece that was made by someone who cared. The finish was even and consistant. The threads were smooth as silk without the slightest bind as the nut was threaded up the shank by hand. If it holds up in use (resists corrosion) it will be just that much better. The 12,000 lb load capacity should handle the 1,650 lb camper I'll be pulling :-)

Hitch parts were easy to locate and match compatibility online and arrived quickly. They were up and running a few minutes after they arrived.

This hitchball worked perfectly for hauling a Uhaul trailor. It was well priced and saved us money rather than buying from uhaul. It was also delivered within two days with our large order which was amazing. If i ever need anything for hauling I am ordering from here

The folks at etrailer.com were very helpful and professional in assisting me obtain an alternative to my initial order which was on back order until December due to the Covid-19 virus. I initially ordered the Curt Rebellion XD Shock-Absorbing Adjustable Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 6-1/4" Drop - 15K with a 2" and a 2 5/16" stainless steel balls. Due to their diligence I was able to learn of the backorder status immediately. Consequently, they were able to provide a work around (chrome balls as opposed to stainless steel). While their dedication facilitated on-time delivery. I not only recommend them, but I will definitely shop with them again.

Does take the sharp shock out of take off and braking. I am using this ball mount on a surge brake system and seems to work fine. A little expensive but worth it in my opinion for spec weights it can handle and additional feature of shock control. I purchased the 12K lb. Curt ball #40038 to go on mount and they are great match for pulling 6,500 lb. boat and trailer. I have more piece of mind than my previous 5K lb. spec ball and mount.

Does everything a hitch ball should! Shines when not in use and pulls the trailer when in use.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and numerous factors go into the capacity of a hitch ball, including the way the shank is threaded as well as the way the metal was finished. The Curt Hitch Ball, # 40038, has been tested and has a 12,000 lb towing capacity. You definitely want to use a hitch ball that is rated high enough for the weight of your horse trailer and part # 40038 would cover this.
