Makes for a great hard-core dirt road set up with a 3000 pound trailer, in conjunction with the Curt rocker ball, Towing with an F150 over many miles of washboards, down through washes where the road was washed out, etc. Really makes for a gentler set up on the equipment in the trailer and the truck. Thanks a lot E-trailer!

by:

My usage of your hitch is a bit unusual, I think. I pull a two ton roller with my Ram and I've used your cushioned hitch to smooth out the process. The roller Lunette just dropped over a 2" ball and then banged and jerked on the ball neck. Check out the photos for my adaptation.. I can flip it over and use the 2" ball!

Have enclosed some photos.

The cushion is holding up very well and it takes a beating!!

Thanks

We have a Pink Tractor (google Mom's Pink Tractor) that we pull to events, mainly in Ks, Ok, Mo, and Ne. We have around 35 events a year we take the tractor to to promote breast cancer awareness.

The other day my wife and I were leaving for an event, i had let a friend borrow the hitch to see how he liked it. In less then a mile from the house my wife started complaining about the trailer jerking. That is coming from a lady that really was upset when I paid that much for a hitch. She told me to stop and buy one. (a long and expensive trip, we had to stop at a casino so she could rest her neck)

I could write a review with a lot of trailer talk, but, this story tells the story.

by:

I use this before and it works very well and each trailer works very well. Thank you for the fair shipping. Thank you.

by:

helps soften the ride from the trailer weight.

by:

Will was most helpful and informative for my specific hitch requirements!

by:

Absolutely Amazing product!!! I have an old steel box trailer with a solid axle (zero suspension) that is used every couple months to haul scrap metal. This thing would slam, bang and jerk at every road imperfection and I just lived with it due to little use and short distance traveled. Was tempted to try one of the $ hitches but just couldn't justify the cost. Thought this $ "shock absorbing" hitch was just a gimmick but etrailer has always treated me right and this is no exception. 100 percent better pulling experience and way cheaper than fabricating a suspension!!!

by:

This is the second cushioned ball mount I have ordered. Due to the different hitch heights on my vehicles, I needed a 2" drop on my new Nissan Frontier. So now I have a 2" and a 4" drop ball mount. These work great, they eliminate the harsh slamming and jerking you often get when stopping and taking off. They definitely smooth out the impact the trailer has on a vehicle, especially if the trailer is loaded with any weight. A good friend recommended the cushioned ball mount to me and I have not regretted buying it. I won't use anything else now on my vehicles.

2007 Toyota Tundra 5.7L, 7X14 Parker flatbed tandem axle utility trailer 7700 lb capacity. I've only used it once since purchasing it, but compared to my previous non-cushioned ball mount it does an excellent job cushioning the load and keeps the trailer from banging the mount in the box and shaking the truck upon braking and acceleration. Very nice when hauling 2+ tons of cargo. Fast shipping from etrailer too.

Still going strong, no complaints. Ive used it about a dozen times now. Still love it.

by:

This hitch replaced a standard non cushioned hitch. which was great - when I only had a jetski to pull. as I've gotten older, my toys have gotten bigger.

The cushioned hitch reduces the shockload from start / stop with a heavier trailer attached. now, pulling a trailer is less of a head (and neck) ache.

we'll have to see how well the elastomers hold up - but for now, I would only recommend this type of hitch to my friends and family.

more than a year later, it still works great!

by:

this is the second cushioned ball mount I have purchased. I haul a specialty trailer daily for work, stop & go, rough terrain first ball mount I used was just a cheap hollow one witch was turning the pin hole on the truck into an oval. Bought a cushioned ball mount and it lasted 4-6years of towing 3-5days/week before one of the pins holding the cushion in finally corroded in half. I'm sure the pin could have been replaced with some work to compress the rubber again but for the price and longevity of the product I just ordered new and keep on going.

still going strong, Curious about the Gen-Y torsion ball mounts but at $550 vs this one at $70 not curious enough

Etrailer Expert

5/14/2018

Thanks for the feedback Timb. You are correct the Gen-Y Ball mounts are significantly more expensive than this one. They do offer a torsion style shock absorbing cushion to the ball mount, but do also offer many additional features when compared to this ball mount from Convert-A-Ball.

by:

I give this five stars for its functionality, quite stops and same for take off. However the shaft could be an inch or two longer for my FX 35. I cannot turn 180 degrees to use higher height without my trailer’s receiver hitting/rubbing the bumper. I would prefer height as trailer stand bottoms out on aprons. I could get an extension but that would defeat purpose of the shock absorber. My advice to potential buyers is to measure the distance from pin to ball to make sure there is enough clearance between ball the bumper. Wouldn’t be surprised if it just an issue with this vehicle model.

Etrailer Expert

Heather A.

12/6/2017

Christopher,Thank you for your review. The best option for your clearance issue is a longer ball mount. Hitch extenders reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent. I am not sure how much rise you need to be level with your trailer. The convert-a-ball, ball mount part # AMSC8 has a 6-3/4 inch rise and is 11-1/2 inches long from center of hitch pin hole to the center of ball hole. This ball mount also has the shock absorbent features.

by:

Bought this for my wife’s truck after owning one myself and is worth it! Takes the jar and shock out of pulling trailers( we mainly pull hay wagons and farm equipment). Highly recommend these cushioned hitches and fast service!

She loves the hitch. If someone borrows it she makes sure she gets it back! I own several now for several trucks.

by:

Bought the Convert-A-Ball Mount because I pull an Off Grid trailer for off road camping. I'm very impressed with how this hitch cushions the push and pull on the receiver, making it a very quite ride while pulling my trailer in rough rocky road conditions, with a lot less stress on the drive train too.

by:

This hitch worked nicely. It really smoothed out the "shocks" & bumps of pulling my trailer. I will only buy a cushioned hitch from now on.

Bruce W.

9/2/2017

Still working nicely and towing smoothly!

by:

The cushioned hitch helps absorb some of the jerk; or jolt out of bumper hitch towing ...and this one is made in USA... !....could also smooth out the ride for the horses when I am hauling them.....e trailer has professional and friendly staff, and super delivery

by:

I like it. I have a few thousand miles on it by now pulling a 2015 MINI on a uhaul auto transport trailer with a 2020 Tacoma and I think it helps keep a smooth ride. I’ve pulled with it from Phoenix to Seattle and back, and recently from Phoenix to Lewes Delaware. Before my first trip with the hitch I got into a lengthy debate over whether or not I had wasted my money on the entire concept of this hitch or not. The first time I pulled an empty trailer with it, I thought maybe I had fallen for a slick pitch because it wasn’t all too different than any other trip with a trailer bouncing around behind me. I pulled the trailer around my neighborhood on streets that I knew for a few laps around the block, then switched hitches back to my old solid one and did the same route and there was indeed a difference with this hitch. It won’t make the bumps and tugs disappear but it will noticeably mute them. Along all of my tows there have been stretches of road where I have thought to myself I’m glad I have this hitch and wonder how much worse the ride would have been without it. The trailer I use has surge braking and there was a concern that the horizontal movement of the hitch could trigger the brake but I haven’t noticed that to be an issue. I recommend the product but if you don’t buy this hitch, use etrailer for whatever you do buy. THE BEST service, fast shipping, great communication, I appreciate this site so much. Every internet shopping trip starts at etrailer, if they sell what I need I’ll buy it here. I want them to stay around for as long as possible, they remind me of what service and support from a business is supposed be and I’m happy to do what I can to keep them around. I’m glad I found etrailer, thanks!

Im satisfied. It rattles a bit with an unloaded trailed but is quiet and smooth at gross weight.

Super happy with this cushion ball mount- I pull loaded grain wagons with my truck and this hitch really takes the shock out of the starts and stops. eTrailer has always provided easy ordering, quick shipping and quality packaging, along with the best pricing available. Thanks, I will be back.

by:

Does take the sharp shock out of take off and braking. I am using this ball mount on a surge brake system and seems to work fine. A little expensive but worth it in my opinion for spec weights it can handle and additional feature of shock control. I purchased the 12K lb. Curt ball #40038 to go on mount and they are great match for pulling 6,500 lb. boat and trailer. I have more piece of mind than my previous 5K lb. spec ball and mount.

by:

i bout this product for my 2010 subaru forester to tow a 16" boat. It works much better than expected! The amount of cushion it provides is stellar! quite the amazing device! i will have one on every trailer that i buy.

AFTER A YEAR OF FREQUENT SALT WATER BOAT LAUNCHES I CAN SAY THIS ITEM IS HOLDING UP FAIRLY WELL. I HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO RINSE IT OFF AND LUBRICATE IT ALMOST EVERY TIME I DO LAUNCH MY BOAT IN SALT WATER. IT STILL FUNCTION AS STATED AND I HOPE TO GET ANOTHER YEAR OF USE FROM IT. THE OCEAN DOESNT CARE WHAT IT IS, ITS GONNA RUST.

by:

well over the hitch is very well made. The hitch itself fit great all holes lined up fine. The only problem the flat round washers were to small for the bolts supplied and you should supply washers for the bracket that mounts under the bumper because the holes on the hitch are pretty big , its possible for the lock washer to seat crooked. A trip to the hardware store fixed the issues. Overall were very happy with the hitch.

by:

The service I received was excellent, within an hour of placing my order I received an email that my standard shipping had been upgraded to 2 day without any upcharge. Products were received as expected and the "Quite Hitch" performs without any issue, stopping all movement between the hitch and reciever. I will definitely do business with etrailer again.

  • Can Curt or EcoHitch Class III Hitches for 2021 Subaru Forester Serve as Towing/Recovery Points
Absolutely! In many instances on vehicles where there's a tow hook bolted to the underside of the vehicle, a hitch installation would require that they be removed. Even though that's not the case with your vehicle, the situation is common enough that Curt and EcoHitch purposely design their hitches knowing that they might need to be used as a recovery point at some future time.
