Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: 2-5/16" Hitch Ball-C40005

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this CURT hitch ball. We're gonna be putting it on our ball mount right here. It's gonna be a two and 5/16-inch size. Let's check it out. Hitch ball is gonna be an important part of your ball mount, so you're gonna make sure you get the right size for the coupler on your trailer, because it's what your trailer's gonna sit on.

So this is two and 5/16. And then the shank here is gonna be an inch diameter. So make sure that matches up with the ball mount you want to use. We'll drop that through. We got a lock nut and a regular nut that we'll put on there underneath.

Now I'm just gonna hand tighten it today. You're gonna want to make sure you torque it down to the right specifications when you get it. You can't just tow with a loose ball on the ball mount. So as you're tightening it down, you can see the flat sides on this, the base here of the ball. That's gonna be good for the wrench to get in there and hold that tight, so you can really tighten down the bottom to make sure it's torched.

This two and 5/16 hitch ball has a gross trailer weight rating of 7,500 pounds. It's gonna have a tongue weight rating of 750 pounds. So just keep that in mind with what you wanna haul. You want to go with the lowest common denominator in your setup. So the ball's rated at 7,500 gross trailer weight rating.

Your ball mount here is only rated at 6,000, and the hitch might be less than that. So whatever the smallest number is, go with that one, so you don't stress out your setup. The ball is gonna have a chrome-plated nickel finish on it. It's gonna hold up to the elements. If you leave it on the back of your vehicle all the time, it won't rust and corrode. Also, when you go to hook up to your coupler, it will scratch it up a little bit. That just comes with towing a trailer. That was a quick look at this two and 5/16-inch ball from CURT. Now just make sure you get those measurements on the ball mount you want to use it with, that shank being an inch diameter, and making sure your trailer is a coupler with a two and 5/16-inch ball that will work with it. I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helped.

  • Ball Mount with 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball to Fit OEM Hitch of 2022 Volvo XC90
Your 2022 Volvo XC90's factory hitch is basically a standard 2 inch trailer hitch so for a ball mount solution that will allow you to use a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball you'd want the Curt # C45030 and then for a hitch ball the part # C40005.

  • Best Extended Ball Mount for Towing a 4,000 lbs Trailer
Hey Ben! All of the hitch extenders like the Gen-Y item # GY89SR are going to reduce your hitch's capacity by 50% so I am not sure that's going to work with your Land Rover's towing capacity. So long as you are not using a ball mount with a bunch of drop the easiest way to get some extra distance is to use the Hidden Hitch Ball Mount item # 80232. The Hidden Hitch Ball Mount item # 80232 is 15-3/4" long from the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball. It does have 2" of drop built...

  • Recommended Ball Mount To Replace Curt C45901 With Missing Parts
I reached out to my contact at Curt and while I have a complete replacement option for you, the ball mount section of the # C45901 is not available separately. Since there is no other ball mount option of the same style that will fit your shank, you will need to purchase another # C45901. In addition you will need a hitch ball with a 1" shank, the 1-7/8" # C40002, 2" # 40083, or 2-5/16" # C40005. I included a video of the # C45901 for you to take a look at.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For V-Nose Trailer
Thank you for providing that picture and measurement. Based on what you have there there is definitely enough room to install a weight distribution hitch. I recommend the Fastway e2 which will require placing the brackets 27-30" back along the frame, leaving you with room to spare. The correct system will depend on the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is to measure with a scale like the # e99044. I have also attached an article below which covers other ways...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Somerset E3 Pop Up Camper
That answer you looked at is a bit confusing and I think it gave you the wrong idea about weight distribution. A weight distribution hitch should not be selected based on your tow vehicle. The most important thing is making sure your loaded tongue weight falls into the tongue weight range of the hitch. I don't know what year or exact model you have but I'm guessing 268 lbs is the dry tongue weight. You will need to measure to see what your loaded tongue weight is, or at least find the...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2019 Toyota Highlander Towing 2018 R-Pod 179
The weight distribution hitch in the question you looked at was based on the loaded trailer tongue weight. It is impossible to find the right WDH based on the vehicle alone. It looks like your 2018 R-Pod 179 has a dry tongue weight of 292 lbs so based on the GVWR you're probably maxing out tongue weight around 400 lbs. To be sure, I recommend measuring your fully loaded tongue weight setup with a scale like the # e99044. Based on that information, the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-0600 would not...

  • Recommendation For Reducing Rear Sag On a 2022 Toyota Highlander Towing a Pop Up Camper
I recommend using a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0450 as there is not any suspension enhancement available for your 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE. The Fastway e2 will not only help to reduce rear end sag but it will also add trailer sway prevention to make towing safer. You can use this hitch on trailers weighing up to 4,500lbs and a tongue weight up to 450lbs. You will need either a 2" # 40038 or 2-5/16" # C40005 hitch ball to match your pop up campers coupler.

The Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit # SH27FRT along with all other receivers for your 2017 Volvo XC90 are not able to be used with a weight distribution hitch system. You will most likely need a 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40005 to replace the 2" ball included with the receiver. Or you can get a 2nd Ball Mount # 391BMU5S if you will be towing multiple trailers. • Can Weight Distribution Hitch Be Used During 90 Degree Turns and Backing Up
Backing up may or may not be allowed depending on the weight distribution hitch you decide to get. However, no WDH is going to allow you to make full 90 degree turns. The spring bars may come out, or the system may end up damaged, so you would need to disconnect the spring bars if you make a turn that sharp. This isn't an issue with most driving conditions, and in a lot of cases you can be careful and make a wider turn to avoid it. It sounds like you might have some specific conditions...

Yes, the Buyers Products Trailer Hitch Ball item # 337RB2516 can be used with a standard ball couple when it is mounted with a Pintle Hook like the item # 337RM62516. Just to add the Pintle hitch ball you were referencing the Buyers Products Replacement Ball item # 337RB2516 has a ball size that matches the standard type of hitch ball but the size of the shank is larger on a pintle. • Sway Control For Hitch Not Rated For Use With Weight Distribution
Good question, and the hitch on your Audi is not rated for use with weight distribution, so what I recommend instead is a friction sway control set up. Hello Danick, thanks for reaching out. The long shank on the Reese Adjustable Ball Mount # RP21141 is not going to change your tongue weight capacity. The ball mount still has a 5,000 lb rating. True, moving the ball away from the truck would slightly increase the tongue weight, but the # RP21141 ball mount is still a pretty standard size. This ball mount slides into a 2" receiver tube opening and works with hitch balls that have a 1" diameter shank.
