Long Shank Ball Mount Recommendation for a Toyota 4Runner

Updated 04/22/2026 | Published 04/15/2026

Question:

I have a new 4runner. Toyota provides a ball mount with a 1" drop, and a 6 1/2" length from center to center ball to pin. I need a 3" drop, and 6 1/2" to 7 1/2" from pin to ball. I cannot find one anywhere! Do you have one that spec? Thanks... jeff

Hi Jeff,

If you're wanting to go with a fixed ball mount, I recommend the Curt Dual Length Ball Mount part # C45230. It has a 2 3/8" rise and 3 5/8" drop and will fit 2-inch hitch receivers. This ball mount is dual length, meaning that it has two different hitch pin holes that will make the shank different lengths depending on what you choose. The first pin hole is 8 1/8" from center to hitch ball hole and the second pin is 11 1/8" from pin to hitch ball hole. It doesn't come with a hitch ball, so you'll need the Curt 2" hitch ball part # 40038 that will fit perfectly, it will need to be torqued to 250ft lbs. This variation should make sure that you're able to adjust the mount as you need.

What are you planning on towing with your new 4Runner?

The dual length are excellent choice. I have on all 3 of my Duramax 2500HD’s.

@Rf The dual length definitely makes it more versatile for when you're towing a variety of trailers. What do you most often use yours to tow?
