Question:
Can the Big Truck Big RV Trailer Jack Foot Scale with Tongue Weight Gauge - 2,000 lbs BTBRV014 be kept on during outdoor winter storage? I know its not designed as a permanent jack foot during travel due to potential damage to the analogue gauge. But what about Wisconsin winters with snow and below zero temperatures? Will the cold damage the scale?

Hey there!
I wouldn't recommend leaving the Big Truck Big RV Trailer Jack Foot Scale # BTBRV014 installed throughout a Wisconsin winter. We don't have a specific minimum temperature rating, but the gauge face has been known to fog up when exposed to rain and snow, and prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures and moisture could potentially affect its accuracy. I'd recommend using it for the scale then removing it after that.
If you'd prefer something more weather-resistant, I recommend the Weigh Safe # WS56KR, which has a built-in tongue weight gauge. You can pair it with the 2" Hitch Ball # 40038 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40007, depending on your coupler size.
We also have the adjustable Weigh Safe # WS66ZR, which includes both hitch ball sizes.
Both Weigh Safe options should hold up better to regular outdoor exposure and can be left installed year-round with proper care. However, Weigh Safe still recommends removing and storing its steel hitches during extended winter conditions to prevent corrosion. I'd follow that advice, especially with Wisconsin's snow and road salt!
Do you do a lot of towing in the winter?

I too agree with the expert. I found the scale to not neasure weight dynamically. If I have the scale on and go into the camper it adds my weight, but then does not subtract it as i leave. You have to deweight the scale and start over.

I weighed the tongue and took it off and store it in the ever. I wanted to make sure my tongue weight was within listed weight for my Tacoma.

I share the same opinion as most others. It's tempting, I know! Our Lance TT "changes" weight at the tongue between water loaded or not, propane tanks full (or not), amount of stowage in the front bedroom (or not) ... etc. Personally - it's much safer to change out the standard foot pad for the unit, take the measurement and reverse the process. Takes maybe 5 minutes tops to do it all. Good luck!

Not sure about winter (I’m in Arizona) but my understanding is that the scale should not be left on full time regardless. It’s a very quick process to change it on and off the jack, I leave it stored in a compartment.

I agree with the experts, I would not leave it on during a Wisconsin winter. Also, I would not leave it on permanently. The only time I use it is after I get everything loaded, then I put it on and get what the tongue weight is. After that, I stow it in my front compartment. Hope this helps
