Hey, everybody. Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Brophy trailer ball. So this one's gonna have a capacity of 2000 pounds, which means a tongue weight of 200 pounds. And it is going to be an 1 7/8 inch ball. We want to make sure to check our coupler, which is usually right here.
And it usually tells us what's going on. With a new coupler, it's going to say it. With the older ones it might wear off, so you just want to make sure that it's going to be the right one for you. But that also we need to figure out exactly which ball mount to use. So we wanna make sure that the diameter is going to be about 3/4 of an inch.
But the cool thing about this ball, as you can see, it doesn't really look like your standard ball. Well, this is internally threaded. So you really don't see this a whole lot. We do a lot of ball mount videos here, and trailer balls, and stuff like that. And having an internal thread, it's going to be really nice for keeping the length underneath our ball mount nice and low.
Of course, we want to torque this down to the settings with a torque wrench just to make sure it's nice and tight. But with this, as you can see, there's only like maybe an inch or so underneath where we're mounting it. So I would probably use this on one of my lawn tractors, just because there's a little tab down at the bottom that is pretty low to the ground, and with a normal traditional ball with a longer shank, it's probably going to hit, and I'd rather not, you know, make a bunch of ruts and stuff in my yard. So, that's going to be a great way to kind of avoid that situation altogether. We do want to make sure that we're not going to overload the ball.
So just make sure that you are getting the right ball mount for this ball, but also we want to make sure that we're not overloading our hitch. Just because we can carry 2000 pounds with this, if our hitch says less, we're going to go with the lesser number of all the components. So just be smart, just so everybody else is safe on the road. And that's basically it. I mean, there is a chrome finish to it, which a lot of them have that, but it will eventually rust away. So if you did want to maybe avoid that, you can grab an aluminum one, but at the end of the day, no one's really going to see it when it's being used. So that's not really a big deal with me. But that's basically it for our look at the Brophy 1 7/8 internal thread trailer ball..

After I put it on it loosened up and fell off my car.
The hitch ball looks great. Delivery time stinks. Took 18 days from ordering to receive this item. If you're not in a hurry, the products are fine.
I needed a set of internally threaded hitch balls because of a clearance issue below the ball mounting. I went online to ETrailer, but I could not find what I needed, So Icalled your 800 number and it was answered by Angela W. I can't say enough good statements about this custome r service professional. I am 72 years young and I remember going to our local hardware store for Hardware, tools and most important professional HELP. This service is not a priority at today's retailers. Angela W was a breath of fresh air. Angela listened to my requirements and offered a solution. The " Brophy " parts were not in the current E Trailer Inventory, but Angela offered to add them. Thank You Angela W!

I bought this for use on motorcycle. I have used it little over the past year, but torque retention seems good. I also keep it out of the elements when not in use. I would purchase again.
Excellent service, part came fast and c orrect
works great
Just perfect for my motorcycle hitch nothing hangs down to scrape on the ground.
Nice hitch ball. Great looking chrome. Easy install.
Went right on. The only slight issue was holding the ball while tightening the bolt. A pipe wrench fixed that problem quick enough.

I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have stated that this hitch ball comes with a lock washer. If the lock washer is used and tightened properly it should not be a problem. The torque on that ball is 160 ft pounds which that is industry standard for that size boltshank. Have you lost the ball?
