Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A 2023 Jay Flight SLX 154BH And 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Updated 12/19/2024 | Published 12/14/2024

Question:

I have a 2023 Hydunai Santa Fe AWD 2.5L 14 Turbo and am buying a 2023 Jay Flight SLX 154BH, max GVWR 3540 to pull behind this SUV. Will the Curt C17499 weight system work for me or what do you recommend? Also, which ball do you recommend to purchase with C17499? Thanks

Hi Lynn,

The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17499 is rated for more than twice your trailer's GVWR so it would be too stiff to help you properly distribute the weight. The trailer's GVWR is 3,600lbs and your Santa Fe only has a 3,500lb towing capacity so you'd really need to minimize what you bring with you to avoid overloading its capacity.

For the hitch I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # FA92-00-0450. This has a 4,500lb GTW and 450lb TW capacity and has two friction points (frame brackets) to help keep the trailer tracking straight behind you. Sway control will be especially important since the trailer is really pushing the capacity of the tow vehicle. It doesn't come with a hitch ball but a 2" ball can be ordered with part # 40038 to complete the hitch.

Kevin, Got it. Now the trailer seller is saying the ball is 2 5/16". Will that size ball fit with this weight System you recommended, if yes what part # would that be? Lynn Boyd

@LynnB The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # FA92-00-0450 require a hitch ball with a 1" diameter shank so for a 2-5/16" ball you could use part # C40005. Torquing down the nut on this hitch ball is going to require a larger torque wrench than the average person would have. I recommend seeing if your local auto parts store has one you can rent or if your local auto shop can just torque it down for you.
