Most brake controllers stick out and take up knee room, but this one tucks the main unit behind the dash where it stays out of sight. All you see is a sleek, 9/16"-wide knob that looks like it came from the factory. It handles everything—adjusting brake power, hitting manual override, and showing color-coded alerts. The included universal panel helps it blend cleanly into your dash for a neat, factory-style finish.
Sand, mud, and steep descents can make towing unpredictable. The Tow-Pro Elite’s off-road mode gives you direct control of your trailer brakes. Set the braking force where you need it—low so the trailer doesn’t dig in on soft terrain or higher so it doesn’t push downhill. A quick double-tap on the knob activates the mode, and the LED glows green so you know it’s engaged. It’s a simple feature that makes a big difference when the trail gets tricky.
This controller uses a built-in 3-axis accelerometer to sense how hard you’re braking and sends matching force to the trailer. The result is smooth, even deceleration with no jerky push or pull. It works with 1 to 3 trailer axles and supports both electric and electric-over-hydraulic brakes at 9V–32V with an output rating of 25 amps continuous. You get steadier stops, less wear on your rig, and more confidence towing heavy loads.
Plug it in and go—the included custom harness makes installation straightforward without cutting into factory wiring. The main unit mounts securely using screws, tape, or zip ties within reach of the 3' connection cable to the knob. Once wired in, calibration happens automatically as you drive. The system meets UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 safety standards and works with both 12-volt and 24-volt electrical systems for broad compatibility.

And today we're taking a look at the vehicle-specific wiring harness, that will work in conjunction with the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller. These harnesses are going to be great to work with your Tow-Pro Elite in a variety of different trucks and SUVs. Now, make sure that you get your vehicle-specific harness. You're going to want to use our fit guide on "etrailer.com", and that's going to make sure that you get the right harness, and that way your install goes nice and easy.
Included in the REDARC kit, you will find this plugin adapter, and this is going to have these spliced ends, and you're gonna have to tie into your brake signal, your brake output, your power output and your ground. Now, if you are pretty handy with electrical, that's awesome. That's great. You can use this. But I'm the kind of person, plug and play in OEM kind of setup or really nice factory one like this.
This is the vehicle-specific harness. So this ties in directly to our factory tow system, and clips right in, it's got this nice braided sheathing on it, to kind of protect the wires, and then it plugs directly into our module here. So, to save yourself a little bit of headache and time, and make the install go that much smoother, and not have to worry about loose connections, I highly recommend getting the vehicle-specific harness. So this end of the plug is specific to your vehicle. As you can tell, it looks like the factory plug, it fits in perfect, has the locking mechanism, so you aren't gonna have to worry about loose connections happening with your plug, and it's going to make install a lot easier.

That’s awesome to hear, and that setup looks great too. That Mini Lite behind your Grand Cherokee is a really clean combo. I love hearing how it’s actually performed for you out on the road, especially in those “oh man” moments where things could’ve gone sideways. 12,000 miles without issues says a lot. Really appreciate you taking the time to share that, and the photo too. What kind of trips are you usually taking with it, more long hauls or just getting out on the weekends?

Pulled my enclosed cargo trailer 4800 miles this past year moving to Texas. Trailer brake still functions perfectly. Im sure it will work with other trailers in the future as I will now sell my 20cargo trailer.

The trailer brake controller still looks great. It works perfectly, although I don’t tow on a regular basis. When I do tow, the controller is easy to use.
