For your 2022 Ford Explorer, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR. This brake controller will provide the sleekest finish and simplest to use interface. When installed, only the control knob is left exposed keeping your interior looking clean. If not present already, you're going to need a 4 flat trailer connector, and a 7 way trailer connector.
To add a 4 flat, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness With 4-Flat # 118599. This harness will simply plug into your factory wiring, no cutting or splicing necessary.
If you already have a 4 flat at the rear of your vehicle, then you can skip the previous step, and use the plug-and-play adapter # RED87FR. This adapter will plug one end into the brake controller # RED44FR, and the other end beneath your dash, and you're done with installation.
If that's not the case, you'll then need to add a 7 way connector. For this, I recommend using the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit will plug into the 4 flat you've just added. Form here, you'll finish running the remainder of the wires to their appropriate locations, and you're finished.
Like I mentioned earlier, if you already have a 4 flat, you do not need to add a 7 way to your 2022 Explorer. The factory 4 flat indicates you have the tow package, and will not require a 7 way due to the fact the wires are already there at the junction box underneath the dash.
