Pin Out of Brake Controller Connector on 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Updated 03/10/2021 | Published 03/05/2021

Question:

Hello, I have a 2021 Range Rover Sport HST with Factory Tow Package. As far as I can see, I have a grey connector under the steering wheel above the pedals. I read that people have had to modify the harness by moving wires around. Do you offer a truly plug and play harness that requires no further modification? I want to have a very clean and simple install.

Other than some slight cosmetic changes, there haven't been any appreciable changes in the chassis of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport since the first model year of the 2nd generation in 2013. Tekonsha/Draw-Tite nor the rest of the companies have tested the pinout of the 2021 model, but there's no reason to believe it's been changed from the 2020 model. I've heard nothing that indicates the pinout of the 2021 is any different, but you can confirm this for yourself as described below.

The brake controller harness you'll need will depend on who manufactures the brake controller you're wanting to use. I'll list the plug and play harnesses we offer and the the brake controller manufacturer each harness is compatible with.

# 3035-P for Tekonsha or Draw-Tite
# RED87FR for Redarc
# C51322 for Curt
# HA81783-HBC for Hayes
• # HM47715 for Hopkins

If your controller just has bare wires exiting the rear, you'd use # 3035-S, and connect the wires together, color for color.

You can confirm the compatibility of the above by using a voltmeter or circuit tester like # PTW2993 on the pins of the connector under your dash. Orient the connector under the dash so that the clip that holds the plug in to the connector is on your left. The upper pin on the right should show continuity with the brake output pin in the 5:00 position in the trailer connector on the rear bumper. The center pin on the right should show 12 volts only with the brake pedal pressed and the ignition on. The lower pin on the right should show a constant 12 volts with the ignition on. The connector's pin out should be a mirror image of what's shown in the diagram I provided.

If this matches up with your connector, you've confirmed that the pinout didn't change for the 2021 model year.
