Question:
Hi, I am not sure whether this product is needed for my use, but I hope you would give me an idea. I have 2017 Thor Windsport 29M Motorhome, which has a stock Class IV hitch rating 8,000lbs towing capacity/500lbs tongue wt. Now I plan to have a cargo trailer that can load my chevy cruze 2,930lbs dry weight, so that I coudl bring my car behind my coach to anywhere. Then, I need a trailer whcih can meet less than the weight limitation of this configuration now. For sure, my coach can tow up to 5,000lbs with no problem and its tongue weight can be 10 of gross trailer weight, consistent within the above-mentioned tongue rate of the stock hitch 500lbs. However, in this case, I can have only a trailer with up to 2,070lbs dry weight. Thus, in order to get more freedom to pick up a trailer either enclused or open one, I thought that installing this product could help my demand or unnecessary investment? Otherwise, can I exceed more than 5,000lbs gross trailer weight with the current stock hitch receiver as long as the total weight is less than GCWR mine is 23,000lbs as well as its towing capacity again, 8,000lbs? But, one question arose if more than 5,000lbs is weighed on the trailer, the tongue weight can easily exceed 500lbs. So, for example, if I have the total trailer weight of 5,550lbs, can my coach with the stock hitch safely tow this mass because the tongue weight is still under 499.5lbs, that is the worst scenario? GVWR of my coach is 18,000lbs and I am going to weigh my coach with some loads on CAT Scale soon, so that I can figure out how much capacity we may have to hit a road. Then, I also need to clarify how critical tongue weight is for my use before some investment. Any response would be really appreciated!

Your Ford F-53 chassis under your 2017 Thor Windsport 29M is rated for a maximum towing capacity of 5,000lbs. This means that even with an 8,000lb rated receiver you are still limited to only being able to tow 5,000lbs without risking damage to the chassis. To haul your Chevrolet Cruze I recommend finding a lightweight aluminum trailer. This will help to ensure you keep your total trailer weight below the maximum 5,000lb towing capacity.
To tow the trailer you will most likely need a Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR if the trailer has electric brakes. You will be able to connect this to your chassis with the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # RED87FR
