Kodiak Trailer Brakes - K2R35DS

Highlights

  • Stops Smoother and Shorter: Disc brakes deliver consistent braking and dramatically cut stopping distance, even at highway speeds.
  • Bolts Right On: Slip-on rotors fit over idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern for quick conversion.
  • Fights Rust and Corrosion: Dacromet-plated rotors and stainless calipers withstand saltwater use with a 300- to 400-hour salt-spray rating.
  • Runs Cooler Under Load: Vented rotor design dissipates heat to prevent heat-related damage.
  • Low-Maintenance Design: Self-adjusting stainless calipers with fewer moving parts cut service time and upkeep.
  • Rated for 3,500-lb Axles: Fits #84 spindle and 14" or larger wheels using a 4-bolt brake flange.

Features to know about

Upgrade to Reliable, High-Performance Braking: Slip-On Disc Kit for 3,500-lb Axles

If your old drum brakes are losing bite or you’re ready for smoother stopping, this Kodiak Disc Brake Kit makes the upgrade simple. The 10" Dacromet-plated rotors slip right over standard idler hubs and are held in place by the wheel and wheel bolts—no need to replace the entire hub assembly. With a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and fitment for 14" and larger wheels, this kit gives consistent braking power even at highway speeds.

Built for Saltwater and Heavy Use: Dacromet and Stainless Steel Protection

Rust and corrosion can ruin brakes fast, especially in humid or marine environments. Each rotor and bracket in this kit is Dacromet-plated with a 300- to 400-hour salt-spray rating, while the calipers, bolts, and hardware are all stainless steel for absolute corrosion protection. It’s a perfect setup for freshwater or saltwater use where long-term durability matters most.

Smooth, Even Stopping Every Time: Stainless Calipers with Self-Adjusting Design

Uneven braking or flexing calipers can make towing nerve-wracking. Kodiak’s stainless steel calipers don’t flex like aluminum and feature self-adjusting pistons that keep pressure even across the pads. The low-drag design retracts farther after each stop to reduce heat buildup, and the 2-1/4" stainless piston—30 percent larger than other brands—delivers more braking torque for shorter stopping distances.

Keeps Cool Under Load: Vented Rotors Prevent Heat Damage

Long grades and heavy loads can push brakes past their limit, but the vented rotor design on this kit effectively dissipates heat to prevent fade or rotor warping. The cast iron rotors fit over standard hubs and remove easily for maintenance, so you can service just what you need without replacing the whole assembly.

Heavy-Duty Strength with DIY Simplicity: Complete Bolt-On Assemblies

Designed for axles with a 4-bolt flange configuration, each Dacromet mounting bracket uses a side-support angle that carries load through the bracket instead of the bolts for a secure fit. The extra embossing adds thread contact for tight guide bolt connections. Each kit includes two full brake assemblies—rotors, calipers, brackets, and mounting hardware—and works with a hydraulic actuator rated at least 1,500 psi (sold separately). It’s a straightforward bolt-on upgrade built for long-term performance.

As always, a quality product from E Trailer. Easy install even for an old guy working alone. Have them installed & bleed, but still cold here in the northeast, & the boat is still all wrapped up.
by:
Perfect fit, easy installation.
by:
Fast delivery. Parts are good quality.
Very easy to install. Would recommend this product if you want a total brake kit.
by:
Installed this new Kodiak Disc Brake kit to replace a Tie Down Engineering set. The performance of these new brakes is phenomenal. I only have one season on them in and out of the salt water. I'm hoping that the Stainless Steel calipers will stand up over time.

The Stainless calipers and disc brake set are still functioning great after 2 years. I also installed an Electric over Hydraulic brake actuator to replace the surge brake actuator

Easy install on to my double axel EZ-Loader boat trailer. I replaced the factory oil bath hubs with new hubs and the brake drums/backing plate units with this disc brake kits. It all works really good! My boat & trailer sees a lot of salt water/Puget Sound. I've very happy with this set-up! Smooth stops!
by:
Very easy to install. 2 hours from start to finish for two axels. Kit should come with bracket bolts though!
by:
Submitted my order and it was shipped that same day. Order arrived earlier than was projected so I got my trailer together and was out on the water
Will definitely recommend you guys.

After one year the brakes work just like they are brand new The only thing I should have done was buy SS rotors.

by:
Fast service and great products. Easy install.
by:
I HAVE THIS SET UP WITH FULL STAINLESS ON MY BOAT AXLE #1, BUT FOR AXLE #2 I FIGURED I WOULD TRY THE STAINLESS/DACROMET SET UP. NOT INSTALLED YET BUT ALL LOOKS GOOD. I ONLY HOPE I DONT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THE CALIPERS LEAKING WHERE THE BRAKE LINE FITTING SCREWS IN LIKE THE 1ST SET OF STAINLESS CLIPERS!
by:
Good product-WAY better than the factory brakes that came on my EZloader! Fair price. Easy to order.
by:
After one year and many trips to salt water, these are holding up about as well as you can expect them to. Way better than the cheap sets. No rust on the calipers at all. I do rinse trailer in fresh water after every trip.
by:
Had a brake issue while on vacation.
No
problem, etrailer had brakes in inventory, good prices, fast shipping.
by:
directions and installation. I just wish I would have known extra hardware would be required to install products.
Tried to talk with etrailer about the addtional bolts required but they could not offer much information. They did try to answer my questions though.
I used these guys twice and will use them again!
by:

Working great. Fits my Venture tandem axel trailer.

by:
Awesome product, very happy with the quality. As with the other package I received, could have been boxed a little better. one of the caliper brackets was starting to poke through the box and had poked into one of the internal boxes housing one of the rotors. Luckily no damage was sustained.

  • What is the Difference Between the Kodiak Disk Brake Kits K2R35DKG and K2R35DS?
Hello Eric, The # K2R35DKG is Dacromet-coated, and the calipers are treated with KodaGuard. The # K2R35DS, on the other hand, is made entirely of stainless steel, hence the higher price. If you're in an area where road salt is common or if you're using these on a marine application like a boat trailer, I generally recommend spending a bit more on the # K2R35DS. Stainless steel offers much better long-term protection against corrosion. What kind of trailer are you planning to install these on?

  • Do 10 Inch Kodiak Stainless Steel Disc Brakes Work With Oil Bath Hubs
Yes, you can keep your oil bath hubs and use the Kodiak disc brakes; you mentioned a salt water environment and stainless steel brakes so you have two options, with the all-stainless steel being the best in terms of corrosion resistance, as you can see by the salt spray ratings of each: - 300- to 400-Hour Salt-Spray Rating: Dacromet and Stainless Steel: Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35DS - 1,000-Hour Salt-Spray Rating: Stainless Steel: Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35S In order to be sure...

  • What is Advantage to Going Integrated Hub/Rotor Disc Brake Setups or Slip On Discs Trailer Brakes
Hey Con, this is a great question but it really comes down to how easy do you want it to be to replace rotors. The slip on kits are pretty easy to swap rotors on as they just "slip on" to the hub over the studs. Whereas a hub/rotor kit like the # T2HRCM10DAC has this all integrated. So it's a initially a bit simpler to go with an integrated kit as it's one less thing to worry about but if you think you'll wear out rotors a slip on kit is better. That said most of what we sell in hub/rotor...

  • Will the Additional Width from Slip-Over Rotors Affect the Fit of the Brake Calipers on a Trailer
There is some additional width added when using the slip-over rotors like # K2R35DS. This is true on every application that uses this set up. The brackets and calipers are designed for this so they will line up just fine. The wheels and tires will just be 1/2 inch further out on each side. You will need to make sure that your existing axles have brake mounting flanges in order to add brakes to the trailer. If you do not have a 4-bolt mounting flange on each end of the axle, # 4-35, you...

  • Will Replacement Guide Bolt # K338GBZN Fit Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35DS
Hey Rick, The # K338GBZN is going to be too long to fit the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35DS that you purchased. The brake pad on the outside just sits there and the pressure from the inner pad pressing out when the caliper is filled with hydraulic fluid closes the gap between the rotor and two pads. If you're not getting contact with the both pads then you likely have a pressure issue that's either caused by air in the line, the wrong psi actuator (disc brakes require 1600psi), or a leak...

  • Parts Needed To Add Stainless Kodiak Calipers To Venture Boat Trailer With Tie Down Hub Rotors
Hello Ken, thanks for reaching out. It is possible to add the stainless Kodiak calipers to your trailer, but you will want to add Kodiak rotors as well. Calipers and rotors are generally not cross compatible between brands, so there is no guarantee your Tie Down hub/rotors will work with the Kodiak calipers. We do not want to mix and match brands here so what I recommend is the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35DS. This comes with the stainless calipers plus new brackets and rotors. The rotors...

I have a few options for you to help with identifying the correct hubs on your trailer. The first and easiest method would be to crawl under the trailer and look for the axle tag on the beam. The Kodiak disc brake kit # K2R35DS is made up of Dacromet and stainless steel components. Dacromet has a 400 to 600 hour salt spray rating while stainless steel is about as corrosion resistant as you can get. • Disc Brakes Recommendation For 3500 Lb Boat Trailer
The Kodiak disc brake kit you asked about, part # K2R35DS, will fit 3500 pound axles with wheel sizes 14 inches or larger. The 10 inch rotors have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. The additional 1/2 inch would mean the wheels would indeed be mounted approximately 1/4 inch further out on each axle. The existing hubs along with the bearings and races would have to be removed.
