Can an Older Car Trailer Have New Kodiak Disc Brakes Installed
Published 11/09/2015 >
Question:
I have an old car trailer. Im having trouble locating disc brake pads/caliper/rotors for it. I wonder if I can upgrade it with the Kodiac brake kit. I dont think its a common set up, but maybe with some mods I can make it work. If you send me an email address I can send pictures. I already installed a new surge actuator had to modify the tongue for that too. Hope you can help as Im already committed to making this thing work.

As long as there is a brake mounting flange on the spindle of your trailer axle there should be a way to get new disc brakes on the trailer.
Basically you would need to first determine what spindle you have on your trailer so that we can figure out what hub/rotors are going to fit. If you check out the help article I attached you will see a guide that will walk you through the entire process.
The part # K2R35DS that you referenced is a slip on kit that will fit over idler hubs on a trailer that are 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. If you have idler hubs with this bolt pattern and brake mounting flanges this kit should work just fine.
