Question:
Purchased Kodiak 3500 Disc brake kit K2R35DS For use on a custom boat trailer Caliper bolts are too short by about 3/8, outside pad does not touch disc because interference between caliper bolt flange and caliper pin slide. Can I use your K338GBZN bolts instead?

Hey Rick,
The # K338GBZN is going to be too long to fit the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35DS that you purchased. The brake pad on the outside just sits there and the pressure from the inner pad pressing out when the caliper is filled with hydraulic fluid closes the gap between the rotor and two pads. If you're not getting contact with the both pads then you likely have a pressure issue that's either caused by air in the line, the wrong psi actuator (disc brakes require 1600psi), or a leak somewhere in your brake lines.
I took a picture to show you the difference between the two bolts. When I put the assembly together I had no issues with the bolt that comes in the kit but had about 1-1/8" of overhang by the # K338GBZN, which would allow play with caliper and cause a multitude of other issues.
I would start by bleeding the brakes again and looking for any leaks and then checking that the actuator is rated for 1,600psi. If you want to send me some pictures of your setup I'd be happy to take a look and see if this is just being installed wrong or if there's an actual problem with the components in the kit. There's always the possibility that you just got a part that was machined wrong and still made it out of the factory. I would also measure the bolt to make sure that they put the correct ones in the kit. You should measure 2.5" from the bottom of the bolt head to end of the threads.

Hey Rick, how did things go after you re-bled the brakes and checked the actuator pressure on your Kodiak disc brake kit? Were you able to get both pads making contact with the rotor? Your update could make it easier for others troubleshooting similar brake issues.
