Video Transcript for Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Swagman Original Hang Style Original 3 Bike Rack for 2 inch receivers, part number S64152-2. The Swagman Original is going to be great for 3 bikes ranging from sizes of your mountain bikes, road bikes, children's bikes, even your women's bikes or alternative frame bikes. It's going to be great for your cars, trucks, SUV's, even your RV's and trailers. The Swagman Original is going to have that sturdy steel construction and a nice premium powder coat finish to resist a lot of the rust and corrosion that you'll see out on the road. These vinyl cushions are going to be great for clamping on the top of your bike to and the bottom as as well as leaving grooves and space for all your cables on the bottom side. This rack is going to have a few nice features as far as security goes. You're going to have a 5/8 inch hole here on top where you can insert any sort of padlock that you may have. We have one laying around here so let's go ahead and see how that looks.

You can also get a locking hitch pin or anti-rattle bolt for the back side here that's going to be part number S64027. Just to give you an idea how this rack is going to fit with your vehicle, we'll get a measurement from the center of the pin hole to the front side of the rack where the tube goes up. It's going to be about 13 7/8 inches. Keep that in mind with your spare tires and any other accessories that you may have on the back of your vehicle. Just keep in mind when using this on you fifth wheels or any of your trailers, if you're going to have a receiver on the back end of that, you're going to want to have at least 15 inches of ground clearance on the back side. That's going to be from the ground to the bottom side of the shank. The Swagman Original is going to have a limited lifetime warranty through the manufacturer. Now that we've gone over some features, let's take a look at how it's installed. First take your 2 inch shank and insert it into your 2 inch receiver.

Once we have our pin holes lined up, we'll then take our anti-rattle bolt, which is going to be a 7/8 inch socket or size and place it through and thread it in. This anti-rattle bolt is going to pull the side of the shank against the side of the receiver, tying our shank in with the vehicle suspension and giving you a nice solid ride. Once we have our anti-rattle bolt tightened up, we'll check and make sure that we have everything in place and place our clip on the end. Now well go ahead and load up some bikes on our new Swagman rack. First think we'll need to do is go ahead and turn the thumbscrews or dials on the top an pull them off once we have them off, we'll go ahead and lift off the top plate so we can expose the nice vinyl cushions to lace our bikes on. Now we'll go ahead an load up our bikes. Placing our first bike on which is going to be a road bike. Our next bike will be mountain bike and you can alternate the handle bars so that you don't have them bumping against each other.

You'll see that when you line up our handle bars on the other side of the tire, that way they sit nice on our rack and they're not pushing against each other and forcing each other off the rack. Just make them so they accommodate each other nicely, like so. Our next bike is going to be a girl's bike. We're going to be using the Swagman Bike Adapter, part number 64005. This bike adapter bar is going to be perfect for your women's bikes, child's bikes and even your alternative frame bicycles. Now with our bikes loaded up, we will then take our plate that we pulled off and place it back over the top of our frames. Once you've done so, then take your thumb screws and place them back over the top and thread them down to secure the bikes in place. With our bike now secure, let's take it out on our test course and see how the new Swagman Original performs. Here on our slalom, this will simulate side to side action as going around corners or making basic maneuvers. Now on to our alternating speed bumps.

This will simulate the twisting action of going over uneven pavement or through potholes. Finally, our solid speed bumps that will simulate going over a curb or out of parking lot. That's going to complete today's look at the Swagman Original Hang Style 3 Bike Rack for your 2 inch receivers, part number S64152-2.

My only concern is that because we are going to use on our fifth wheel, it would be nice to be able to have choices on where you could put the connecting pin. It still appears to be far from the trailer. This is my second swagman, my other is over 20 years old and just broke on the way to our winter destination. I am wondering if I could have an additional hole drilled into the steel? 620371

The bike rack is very substantial. I assembled it in less than 10 min. I took in on my first trip today loaded with 2 adult bikes and 1 children’s bike although I had to mount 1 of the bikes upside down they all stayed secure with no scratches. I am very pleased! 655477

This is a solid and well-engineered bike rack. I bought it because of the design. I need a bike rack to carry in the back of my pickup truck along with luggage on trailer trips. Bikes go on a rack I leave on the back of the trailer. When trailer is parked and we're ready to go biking I'll pull this new rack out of the pickup truck bed and put in on the truck. More convenient than my other racks, one of which is an extremely heavy platform style rack and the other one which has two upper support arms which doesn't fit well in the pickup bed along with the other items. This one lays flat, taking up minimal space. 121522

This rack worked perfectly. It had plenty of clearance between my tailgate and itself. I also bought the leveling bars for each bike and they also worked perfectly. They made bike even with the top of the tailgate and I could only see some of the handlebars. There was no excess movement to cause me any distractions while driving. It’s made out of heavy duty steel tubing and easily held the weight of our bikes. It was super easy to put together and attach to my hitch. You will probably need a 2.5 - 2 in. reducer like I did. Overall, this was a great product. I’d recommend it to anyone. 561184

This is a very durable bike rack. It is well designed and built with overall quality in mind. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a strong rack to carry 2 or 3 bikes. It was easy to assemble and simple to mount on my truck and RV 2 inch receiver. 134498

Easy to assemble and use. Great for hauling kids bikes or any standard bike without a thin walled frame. It clamps down the bike with confidence and simplicity. Swagman is simple and bombproof. 571409

I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend and it has been great! Mostly because it is very simple to assemble -- took about 10-15 minutes. Mounting the bikes was simple as well and had no issues with securing them properly. Great buy! 314367

Order shipped same day. Product is well built and works very well with 5th wheel. This resolves the issue of placing bikes in truck bed. Very happy with product. Thanks etrailer for your quick response. 541277

Product is better and sturdier than I expected. I was shocked at how fast it shipped. It was extremely well packaged. I have not seen this type of care in shipping for a long time. I am very happy with the product especially at the price. It had several features I was looking for: 1. It is rigid to the hitch with no flopping. 2. The bikes can be securely locked to the carrier. 3. The unit can easily be locked to the hitch (with the additional locking bolt that I would recommend purchasing. 4. When not in use it can easily be stored FLAT in the storage area of my RV without taking up a lot of room. I would highly recommend etrailer and this bike carrier. I will be doing additional business with etrailer in the future! 485523

I used it to haul my bike down to Florida from Minnesota on the back of my RV. With the base being screwed tight to the hitch it traveled with zero problems. Very heavily built. Stores flat against the wall in the storage area underneath. I am extremely pleased with this product!

Very, very heavy. When you put your bike on the rack, the bike hangs very low. I have a Honda CRV and put my women's bike on the rack. When I drive over even a little teenie bump, the tires of the bike have hit the road and bent the bike. I will never buy this again. There is no way to adjust the height of the pipe coming out of the hitch. Terrible design. Very, very, very heavy. And I do not have a fancy bike but I was on the Interstate and hit a little tiny bump......at 55 miles per hour, it bent my entire tire and rim! Cost me over $100 to fix it. Never again. Only a child's bike will work on this. DO NOT BUY this bike rack. 573861

It sounds like you need an adapter bar to keep the bikes level on the bike rack. The adapter bar will give the bike a level hanging surface so they are not crooked on the bike rack. It should help them from hanging too low and creating ground clearance issues. I recommend the Kuat adapter bar part # UB01
Kuat Ubar Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's and Alternative Frame Bikes
$35.00
because it extends from 15 inches to 23 inches so it will work on adult womens bikes and childrens bike frames.

We ordered the Roadmaster dual hitch extension and the Swagman 3-bike rack for our Motorhome. We tow a vehicle and had our bikes on the back of our tow. They partially blocked our tow vehicle’s brake lights. We opted to get this assembly to attach to the coach and still be able to flat tow our vehicle. Assembly was easy, you will need two 5/8 hitch pins: 1 for the extension to the RV hitch and 1 to reattach your Blue Ox (or other flat tow assembly). Very sturdy construction. We are very pleased! 504673

It is a tough bike rack which I can use with my travel trailer. I would give it 5 stars but the rack does not swing down for unloading. However, I don't think there is rack suitable for a travel trailer which also swings down. E-trailer shipped the bike rack in a timely fashion and the rack is exactly as advertised. 514534

Comments
We do not have any bike racks that are travel trailer approved that swing away or down. If the bike rack is rated for motorhome, 5th wheel or camper use they have a fixed stinger that goes into the hitch receiver to avoid any excessive bouncing. We do have the Swagman trailhead part # S63381

We like the strength and stability of this bike rack on the back of our 5th Wheel Camper. My boyfriend did the installation by himself with no help. We are very happy with this product and would recommend to anyone looking for a basic rack at a fair price. 770524

Initial impressions. I have a Swagman from a few years ago and it was a failure on my 5th wheel. It mounted using either the 2" or the smaller receiver and I had it installed, with proper adapter, on a 2" receiver. A rough road caused the receiver bar to bend and we almost lost the bikes. This one is only 2" receiver and the bar is much more substantial. I expect it to work very well. Swagman has a replacement bolt/pin that will allow locking it to the receiver and they have an optional cable that locks to the receiver pin. Those will add security and probably something I will purchase. 764405

The Swagman Original - 3 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer is built solid and I have no doubts that it will be able to withstand the physical stress of riding behind my 5th wheel. The bike rack does not fold, which is fine with me since it will be attached on the receiver of my pick-up truck or 5th wheel. Putting it together was somewhat easy. You do need a torque wrench to tighten the bolts/nuts to exactly 60 lbs to be on the safe side. One more thing, the bolt that secures the bike rack to the vehicle's receiver is threaded. When assembling the the bike rack receiver bar, make sure the threaded side is to the right if your are right-handed or left for left-handed people. It is so much easier to to thread the bolt in if positioned the right way. I know, I had to undo mine and turn the part 180 degrees to set the threaded side to the right. In all, I am still very satisfied with my purchase. The staff at etrailer.com is outstanding. The sale and customer service people go out of their way to make sure you get all the information needed to make the right choice. 763379

This is a very well built bike rack with heavy powder coating for protection. I followed the instructions for assembly and would suggest that before you tighten any of the bolts you should assemble all of the parts and then tighten the bolts as instructed in the assembly instructions. We will be using this to haul our electric bikes on a motor home. 613574

A friend gave us their bike rack to travel from NY to SC. It was so flimsy and loose we did not use it. I borrowed my son's once in SC (this model), and it was simple and worked extremely well. I bought the same for our next trip to SC. It holds the bikes firmly with easy ability to lock bikes onto the rack, I just need to purchase a locking hitch pin. One drawback is that it does not tilt so you can't access cargo without removing the rack. Otherwise a good value! 577632

Comments
The locking hitch pin you will need for this bike rack part # S64152-2 is swagman threaded hitch pin lock part # S64027. This swagman bike rack does not tilt away for cargo access. I recommend swagman trailhead hanging bike rack part # S63365 with the tilt away feature. The trailhead tilts forward to allow easy access to vehicles rear cargo area. You will still need part # S64027 for the lock.

In order to use a hitch-mounted bike rack like the Swagman Original # S64152-2 that you were looking at while towing a vehicle, you will just need to add the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-4. This adapter will slide into the 2 inch hitch receiver on your RV to provide two, 2 inch receivers on the other end. Both of these adapters allow 2-inch accessories to be used in a 1-1/4-inch hitch. While these items do both adapt size and provide extension (and the # HT5R also adds rise for more ground clearance) all such adapters will add potential for more motion of the loaded accessory, just as you noted. On RVs and trailers, there is excess bouncing and movement at the trailer hitch. Most hitch mount bike racks cannot handle the excess bouncing and would likely fail during your trip causing expensive damages. We do have several bike racks that are rated for use on a RV. I would indeed recommend using a bike adapter bar like part # 64005 when carrying your Trek 7100 on the Swagman Original Bike Rack part # S64152-2. The reason for this is because if you attached the bike rack directly to the carrier without an adapter bar, the front wheel would hang very close to the ground and if you were to hit a bump or go up a steep incline, the bike could make contact with the road and damage both the bike and bike rack.

The adapter bar attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem. This allows the bike to be positioned more level in the carrier while providing...

  • Recommendation For Hitch Bike Rack to Fit Fifth Wheel RV and 2011 GMC Sierra
The Swagman 3 Bike Rack, part # S64152-2, will install on the 2-inch hitch receiver on your 2011 GMC Sierra truck. It will also work on the fifth wheel RV if the the ground clearance is greater than 15 inches. Since a RV hitch will normally sit lower than a vehicle hitch it is recommended to make sure you have more than 15 inches of ground clearance to keep the bikes from touching the ground when driving up a hill. The ground clearance would be measured from the ground to the bottom...

  • Will the Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack Fit on a 2002 Toyota RAV4
You should not have any issues using the Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack, # S64152-2, on your 2002 Toyota RAV4, however, I would recommend taking a few measurements just to be sure your rear mounted spare tire will not interfere with the bike rack before purchasing a bike rack. This bike rack measures 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar. On your vehicle, you will want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch to the furthest rearward...

  • Measuring Rear Liftgate Clearance for Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack on 2018 Jeep Compass
You can confirm rear liftgate clearance for the Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack # S64152-2 on your 2018 Jeep Compass with one simple measurement. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole rearward 14-inches. This is where the upright bar of the Swagman rack will be when installed. Use a straight edge item like a yardstick or wooden dowel to mark this vertical location and open the liftgate. If it does not touch the yardstick then you'll have no clearance issue. The linked article and photo...

  • Tilting Bike Rack Recommendation Similar to Swagman Original 3-Bike Rack
There isn't a way to convert the 3-bike Swagman Original part # S64152-2 that you referenced to a tilting rack. For a similarly priced rack that does tilt and would work great we have the Rola TX-103 part # 59403 which would work great. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out as well.

  • Availability of Bike Rack to Fit on Rear of 2010 Keystone Sprinter and Clear the Spare Tire
The Ultra-Fab Motor Home Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # UF35-946402, will fit on a 4-inch RV bumper. It has a weight capacity of 200 lbs, but you will also want to verify the weight capacity of your bumper. If the capacity of the bumper is lower than 200 lbs, you will need to use that capacity as your guideline. The Swagman 3 Bike Rack, part # S64152-2, is designed for use on the rear of a RV or motor home. It will have a weight capacity of 105 lbs for three bikes. Again, if the bumper...

  • Will Swagman Original Three Bike Carrier Work With Nikishi Alamosa Bike Frame
I was unable to find out what the diameter of your Nikishi bike frame is but I did call Swagman and asked about the frame capacity for the Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack, part # S64152-2. My contact said the Swagman carrier can hold bikes with frames up to 2 inches diameter. The carrier fits 2 inch receiver openings and has a distance of 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar of the carrier.

  • How Can I use a 4 Bike Hitch Mounted Rack on a 2009 Explorer with Factory 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
There are adapters available, like part # HTAD. However, these adapters reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The hitch on your Explorer is Class II, the tongue weight capacity would be 350 pounds. Cut that in half you are left with 175 pounds. Subtract from that the weight of the carrier, say 65 pounds for the XTC, you are left with 110 pounds capacity which would not be enough for the bikes and to compensate for the length of the rack. Rather than using an adapter,...

  • How to Get More Clearance When Using Swagman XP 3 Bike Rack on 36-Foot Trailer
First, thank you for your recent purchase from etrailer of your Swagman XP Bike Rack for use on the rear of your trailer. This rack offers a good amount of clearance from its hitch pin hole - 13-1/2 inches. Few RV hitch bike racks offer more clearance between the hitch pin hole and the upright mast of the rack. The Swagman Original # S64152-2 provides 14-inches. The trouble with using ANY type of adapter or extender in a hitch is that this action will have the unavoidable side-effect...

  • Recommended Hitch Bike Carrier for Use on 24-Foot RV
We do offer 2-inch hitch bike racks that are approved for use on the rear of an RV. These are made to handle the extra physical stresses found at the rear of motorhome and trailers. We do not recommend using any type of extension/adapter in your RV hitch as this could potentially damage your hitch due to the additional leverage this would apply to the hitch tube. You'll want to measure from your hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the RV (probably the outside edge of the spare tire)...
