Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack In Use

The Yakima HoldUp is a premium, tray-style bike rack that lets you carry 4 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. This rack is specifically designed to carry bikes with big tires and wide handlebars, but it will carry just about any bike, including those with wheels from 20" to 29", carbon frames, disc brakes, thru axles, or full suspensions.

Removable 2-Bike Add-On

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Removable 2 Bike Add-on

The rack includes a 2-bike add-on that installs easily onto the base rack. When it's not needed, simply remove the add-on with the included special tool and throw it in your trunk or leave it at home. To install the add-on on your HoldUp, simply remove the endcap from the bike rack base, slide the add-on's shank into the hole on the bike rack, and secure the shank with a bolt that comes with the add-on.

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Safety Flag and Clearance Lights

The add-on includes a safety kit with 2 red LED lights and a flag. The lights and flag ensure that the rack is visible to other vehicles on the road.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Large Front Wheel Holders

The HoldUp is easy to load, even if your bikes have monster wheels. The deep, contoured front wheel cradles accommodate just about any wheel out there, and the pivoting arms with StrongArm technology ensure that your bikes are held firmly in place.

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Ratcheting Arm

To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the holder, rotate the pivoting arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook. To release the hook, simply press the built-in red button and slide the hook up and off your wheel.

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Adjustable Rear Wheel Cradles

Large rear wheel holders allow the HoldUp to accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. These wheel holders pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to your wheel size - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the ratcheting straps built into each holder.

Yakima HoldUp Ratcheting Arm No Frame Contact

Mounting bikes by the wheels helps prevent any scratches or scuffs to the paint. The ratcheting hooks are padded, however, so they won't mar your wheels. And the pivot mechanisms in the arms are overbuilt to ensure they keep functioning smoothly over a lifetime of hard use.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Yakima HoldUp Adjustable Bike Trays

The wheel trays on the HoldUp are fully adjustable to ensure that you have all the space you need when mounting bikes with mammoth handlebars, such as a 29er. To adjust a wheel tray, loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base and slide the tray left or right to achieve the desired spacing. Retighten the bolts and you're ready to roll with optimum handlebar clearance and no fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Complete Security

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Built-in Cable Locks

The HoldUp has a cable lock built into the end of each pivoting arm. These cables loop through your bike frames and attach to posts on the bike rack arms to secure your bikes in place. The cables store in the arms when not in use.

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Locking Hitch Pin

The rack also has a HitchLock hitch pin that allows you to lock the rack to your vehicle. The threaded pin also works as an anti-rattle device to reduce noise and movement of the rack when it's mounted in your trailer hitch receiver.

The cable locks and HitchLock hitch pin include keyed-alike Same Key System (SKS) lock cores. These cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima products keyed alike.

Tilting Design and Compact Storage

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Folded for Storage

The HoldUp stores more compactly than similar platform-style racks, a features a spring-loaded pin at the base that lets you fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle when it's not in use. First rotate the front wheel holders inward and tilt the rear wheel holders inward, then rotate the pivot arms down and use the ratcheting hooks to secure the arms to the rear wheel holders. Once the arms are in place, pull the pin and fold the rack up against your vehicle.

Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack Tilted for Rear Cargo Access

The same pin tilts the rack down, while fully loaded, so you can gain access to your vehicle's rear cargo area without having to unload your bikes.

Excellent heavy duty (for an e-bike and traditional bikes) and HEAVY rack. Thank goodness you can install it in two pieces. It works great!! I love it.

by:

Stop "researching" now. Just buy this. You'll be happy.
Strong and sturdy. Easy to put together. FAST delivery.
All as advertised!

by:

The bike rack works extremely well and fairly easy to get two adult bikes and two kids bike. The rack can be a bit heavy if lifting all in one piece. I would recommend installing the base, then the add on. Bikes are stable and secured. The locking cable is just long enough to go throught the frame, but don't expect both tires to be locked.

The only issue I had is the stablizer bold for the add on did not fit through the base rack. I called supprot and I am going to make the hole slightly larger so it will fit. Support was very knowledge and had heard of one other issue like mine so they noted my account. etrailer is great in customer support and deliver.

Been a Yakima user for some time. Last bike rack was the Doubledown 4. Great rack but with the newer bike frames having top bars in different shapes and sizes, putting bikes on the Doubledown was a challenge. Had to go to a platform rack.

Holdup was the fit. Carries 2 kids bikes without issues as well as my 29” and 27.5”. It is big and heavy but is solid and stable. Just makes it so much easier to carry 4 bikes. Just did a 500 mile round trip drive with them and no issues. Built in security cables is a nice feature. I did change out the two SKS cores to match up with the others.

I’ll need to replace the stabilizer pin’s holder. It’s make out of plastic and broke right when I pulled out the pin so the cable is just hanging now.

If I had to do it again, I’d buy it again. etrailer has quick shipping and great customer service.

by:

The rack overall is very good. Easy to use instructions and easy to mount/dismount. It is quite heavy when it has all 4 bike holders attached but then again you want a very solid rack for that many bikes. The only caution is that if your bike has fenders on it, the arms might not latch the front wheel at the right spot and the bikes will move around more than you want. That said i have put heavy ebikes on there without fenders and it holds them very snug. The tilt down feature is also very handy.

by:

I love this rack it’s very easy to use. It keeps the bikes separated so they don’t touch and get damaged during transport. Can load and unload within seconds. My only disappointments were the keys to the back rack to make it a 4 place carrier don’t match the front part of rack and add on section doesn’t come with lock to secure it to the front portion. I ordered together so they would match. This is annoying especially for the money I paid. Second issue during transport the rear most arm that was not in use slid down and was dragging on the rd which damaged the lock and top part of arm that now needs to be replaced. This seems like a design flaw. Other wise enjoy the rack very much.

The arm needs to be folded flat when not in use. The wheel hook locks into place by the cradle. Also, it is noted in the description that the locks included with the base rack and the add-on may not use the same key. You can add a 6-pack of lock cores, item # Y07206 which are sold separately, to ensure all locks are keyed alike.

by:

Great service as always. The rack did show up with slight damage (one of the rear wheel trays had a crack). etrailer took care of it right away and sent me a replacement. The bike rack is great as well. Thanks for the excellent service, I will shop with you again in the future.

One year later and the rack is still working great! It is so easy to load and unload bikes especially when two young boys are waiting to grab their bikes. My sons are also getting good at loading their own bikes ages9 and 11. Still happy with my purchase.

Believe me when I said I researched bike racks for my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. I have a spare tire on the back so I was very anxious about buying the wrong one. I also have an e-bike, an adult road bike, and 2 kids' bikes. I wasn't sure if I should get a hanging rack or not. I loved that etrailer gave me so many videos to watch. They gave me their honest opinion about each one. When I finally chatted with someone at etrailer they suggested a bike rack I didn't even consider. It a little more than what I wanted to spend, but so worth it. I ended up needing a hitch extender, but they gave me advice on which one was best. Again, I almost bought the wrong one when researching myself. Outstanding customer service from pre-purchase to questions afterwards. This is a very solid bike rack that will be a joy to use once the weather gets warmer. Thanks etrailer!!

by:

I own the older version and it has worked great for me. When I was considering moving up to a 4-bike rack, I decided to purchase the new version instead of the add-on to my rack. The new version had the 2 main features I was looking for: individual cable locks in each arm and adjustable trays. Ordering and shipping were easy and fast. Pre-order questions were answered quickly by etrailer.com staff. I look forward to using the full capacity of this rack when carpooling to upcoming races and the Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest in Lajitas, TX this coming February. My only complaint is that I wish the SKS cores for all of the locks were matched so I would only need a single key instead of 2 keys.

by:

First, regarding etrailer, I bought from here because I did tons of resea... well basically they were the only ones that could have it delivered to me before leaving on vacation. But they did ship on time and one nice feature is that in their shipping notice email, it contains the initial tracking info at a time where you usually can't view anything yet from the carrier. Experience was great with them.

Regarding the rack. I'm glad that I ended up buying this rack from a company that has history in this area. Everything was very well thought out. All of the parts were well packed with a combination of cardboard and foam protection. I couldn't find the mounting bolts because they were already installed on the rack which is genius because it's easier for the factory to ensure all pieces were provided and I know exactly where everything goes (even though there was only 1 bolt type and not much assembly, but still a great idea.)

It took more time to remove packaging than it did to assembly it. Instructions were easy to read with pictures and even some humor. It even calls out torque specs. The rack seems very solid with a very good paint job that should reduce rusting from scratches. It came with the hitch mounting pin AND LOCK which is keyed to the locks that go to the bikes. The 2 bike attachment has its own set of keys. I already had a 4 bike standing rack but that grips on the bike frame and has scratched all of our bikes and drives me mad. It was only $xxx but is heavier and is already rusting and was a pain to try to lock them to the rack.

I am very pleased with this purchase all around. They provided the tools needed for assembly (2). The keys say Yakima on it so when I throw them in with 50 other keys, I'll be able to figure out what they are for. And even the additional pin provided with the 2 bike extension has a cable to attach it and the bolt already has blue lock-tite on it. They literally have thought about everything... almost.

If this product wasn't so well thought out I wouldn't have even noticed this. My only comment is the pin that attaches the 2 bike extension to the main one is the same locking bolt used for the hitch pin. But the extension rack doesn't come with a lock for it (if it did it could be keyed to the extension bike locks. It is setup to be able to put a lock on it). So, everything is secure expect someone could just remove the entire 2 bike extension with the bikes on it. Granted they would have to put them in a truck or something and need a wrench but seems odd to not include it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

by:

This is a great bike carrier. It is attractive and well built. It seems to be more heavy duty than the Thule two bike carrier I have, Yakima designed this four bike carrier very well and I am looking forward to lots of trips with the option of two or four bikes. The only problem I incurried was with the bolt that holds the carrier to the two inch hitch. The threads on the bolt and the threads on the nut inside did not easily tighten down.

by:

Seems like a solid rack. Really heavy and bulky which I was not expecting. You essentially have to mount the 2 bike rack to the car then slip in the 2 bike add-on. Lifting the 4 bike rack as assembled is doable but triccky. Still much better for my beloved bikes than the 4 bike cradle racks which beat the bikes up as they rub each other.
Warning: the nut in the receiver part of the rack had steel shot beads stuck in the grease so I couldn't thread the bolt in. I had to disassemble the nut holder and pick the steel beads out with a dental pick.

by:

I put together the new trailer and it is working great. Its high quality and really easy to use. It's maybe a little heavy, but I could see that from the spec sheet before I bought it.

The team at etrailer was great. There was some shipping issues with the supplier, but they were very responsive to my emails and made me feel that they were doing everything they could on their side and kept me up to date. Thanks!

by:

I ordered the bike rack around 11pm on Saturday and it was delivered to me the following Thursday free of charge. The two boxes were in perfect condition and so was the rack. It was very easy to put together. I had read about some other customers having some trouble with the assembly but for me everything went together correctly and quickly. I took my Fuji traverse 1.1 for a test run on it around my town. It takes about 10 seconds to secure the bike to the rack. The bike was held in place very well and I’m looking forward to using it to transport my bikes back and forth from Rhode Island to New Hampshire this summer. It appears to be a very sturdy and well built rack. Too this point I am extremely happy with this purchase and I will give some more feedback after I have taken it on a few trips with all four bikes on it.

by:

In one word: AWESOME! Not only is the Yakima rack awesome, but the delivery was lightning fast and the purchase experience was easy! I bought the rack with the additional add-on and they were easy to install and use! Definitely recommend!

by:

Looks good. I just assembled it but have not used it yet. I did find that the included wrench does not work on my Chevy 2500 pickup. There is not enough clearance for swinging the wrench. The large hole needs to be on top. Also, I am missing a couple parts in the box but I am wondering if they were eliminated. Waiting for a response from Yakima. Looking forward for having it for RAGBRAI next year.

by:

Assembled and used it last night. Really sturdy and well built. Very cool looking too. Order and delivery from etrailer.com was painless and fast. We look forward to many trips with the family and our bikes.

by:

I ordeed this rack and it was high quality and was easy to put together and install on the vehicle. etrailer had the best price around.

  • Recommended Platform Bike Rack To Clear Spare Tire Of 2021 Jeep Wrangler W/ Factory Trailer Hitch
For a bike rack that is going to clear and allow you to open the back door of your 2021 Jeep Wrangler with a factory trailer hitch receiver your best option is going to be going with a bike rack and a swing away adapter. There are quite a few bike racks that will work depending on how heavy your bikes are, and how many bikes you are wanting to carry. • Why Cant Yakima HoldUp be Used with 5th Wheel RV
I know it can be a bit confusing because a trailer hitch is a trailer hitch, but the reason the Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Platform Rack # Y02443-2 isn't appropriate to install on your 5th wheel RV trailer hitch is simply due to the extra movement at the back of 5th wheels. Since the axle is located further away from the back of your RV compared to passenger vehicles the movement back there is much more exaggerated and Yakima has deemed it isn't safe to use this bike rack on a 5th wheel RV. For...

  • Will The Yakima HoldUp Bike Carrier Hold Bikes with Step-Through Frames
If you are not transporting all 3 of the step-through bikes at the same time then you could use the HoldUp, # Y02443, which has a 2 bike capacity. Otherwise you would use the 4-bike version, # Y02443-2. As long as the bikes do not have fenders on the front tires then the bikes will fit just fine. Some bikes have short fenders that do not cover much of the top of the tire. That would work too. To determine if the carrier will fit your vehicle there are a couple of measurements that need...

  • Will the Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack Clear the Spare Tire on a 2006 Toyota RAV4
It is possible that the HoldUp bike rack # Y02443-2 will clear the spare tire on your 2006 Toyota RAV4. To know for sure measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the vehicle back to the rear-most edge of the spare tire. If that distance is less than 12 inches the rack will clear the spare. On a Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch, # e98864, that we installed on a same generation RAV4 as yours we found that distance to be 7 inches meaning the rack would clear the spare. Since the spare...

  • What is the Function of the Pin on the Cable on the Yakima HoldUp Bike Carrier
The red handled pin with the cable on the Yakima HoldUp bike carrier # Y02443-2 is basically a failsafe pin. In the instructions they call in the stabilizer pin. Should something occur to the spring loaded pin that allows the carrier to fold up and down that pin with the cable will prevent the carrier from pivoting unexpectedly. You will want to use the pin as described in the installation instructions. It basically says to always use it. What makes it difficult to install or remove when...
