This actuator has the muscle for big jobs with its 12,500-lb capacity and 1,250-lb maximum tongue weight. It’s built for hydraulic drum brakes and uses a surge design that syncs braking between the tow vehicle and trailer without any electrical hookup. When the tow vehicle slows, the actuator telescopes forward and applies pressure to its master cylinder, delivering steady, reliable braking force that feels natural and balanced.
The heavy-duty steel body is zinc plated to resist rust in wet or salty environments. That coating keeps it looking good and working smoothly season after season, especially useful for trailers stored outdoors or used near the water. The sturdy steel housing also stands up to hard use and resists bending in tight turns or jackknife situations.
A standard 2-5/16" ball coupler with a built-in 3" drop keeps the trailer level behind the tow setup. The drop design helps line up the tongue height with different trailer frames, giving you a more stable towing posture. The bolt-on mount fits a 3" wide channel tongue for a straightforward installation using common hardware patterns—no guesswork needed.
Inside the actuator, a unique roller setup helps reduce drag when the inner section telescopes during braking. The straight-line movement cuts down on binding so the actuator responds quickly and evenly each time you press the brake pedal. It’s a small detail that makes towing feel steadier under load and easier to control in traffic or on hills.
A breakaway kit is already included to give you peace of mind on the road. If the trailer ever separates from the hitch, the system pulls automatically to activate the brakes and bring everything to a stop. It’s simple protection that’s ready to go right out of the box.

It sounds like you are having trouble getting the coupler to release the ball. I would make sure you are applying a small amount of grease to the hitch ball prior to coupling the trailer, such as with White Grease Hitch Ball Lube # 58117.
