Video Transcript for Master Cylinder for Titan Model 10 and 20 Actuators Review

Today we'll be having a look at the Titan master cylinder for Titan model 10 and 20 actuators with drum brakes, part number T2374400. Here's what your master cylinder looks like. As you can see, we have a new push rod assembly for it too, and a new cap for our fluid reservoir. Now, the reason you want a new master cylinder is it saves you the hassle and expense of replacing your entire coupler assembly with your actuator. This will allow you to just unbolt a few items, undo one break line, and you'll be able to get your trailer on the road again with working brakes. All right, we have a coupler here sitting on our work bench for demonstration purposes to show you how this would go on. We'll start by prying off this cover with a flathead screwdriver, just go up underneath it and work it out.

Now you can see where your cap is for your master cylinder. We'll unscrew that, get it out of the way. Then we have four bolts to hold our master cylinder assembly in place, two on each side, going to remove all four of those. We'll slide it out with the bracket it's mounted on. We'll undo the four bolts that hold the master cylinder to the bracket.

Now, our master cylinder's held to our bracket with two bolts, and two nuts with star washers. We'll unbolt these real quick. The master cylinder removed from the bracket to place the new one on. We'll tighten down our bolts that hold it to the bracket. Now if you didn't purchase a new fitting that your brake line screws into in the back of your master cylinder, you'll need to swap that, so we'll just loosen that up.

Pop off the plug, and we'll screw that in. We do have these fittings available separately on our website if you'd like to purchase a new one. I'll just snug that back down, we'll remove our cap from the new master cylinder and we'll slide it into our actuator. We'll just push our master cylinder in so our holes line up again. Once you have one started it's a lot easier for the rest because the bolts holding the pressure off of the plunger. Okay, with all our bolts started we'll snug them down again.

Okay, with it bolted down we install our reservoir cap, pop back on our cover here. Once it snaps back in place, your install's complete. Okay, so that shows you how to replace the actual master cylinder itself inside the coupler. If you we're doing this on your trailer, you would have to make sure you replace your brake line here, screw it back in there, refill your reservoir brake fluid and then bleed the brakes on your trailer. It's a real simple process to do, just bleed it like you would any other hydraulic actuator for a master cylinder. There you have it. That completes our look at the Titan master cylinder for Titan model 10 and 20 actuators for drum brakes, part number T2374400.

You should include the hose coupling fitting. Over time the manufacturer has changed the fitting size. The old one won't fit! I had to order a new fitting and now I have to wait another 6-8 days to complete this repair. The actuator looks good I have assembled it in place. 543136

Received product quickly and accurately. One important thing I didn’t realize was the back port size for the old Titan model 10 for drums is different this new model so you MUST buy the reccomemded fitting or you’ll very disappointed. You must have the correct size fitting otherwise your system will have to much pressure and cause your brakes to “shutter” or grip to hard when braking. 519996

  • Replacement Drum Brake Surge Coupler for 2-Inch Surge Coupler with Electric Lockout
To replace your Dico surge actuator the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator # 8605001 would be a really great choice. It has a 6k capacity, fits a 2 inch ball, and with the reverse lock out solenoid kit part # DM5836 with it you'd be totally set.

The Master Cylinder # T2374400 is for Titan Model 10 and 20 Actuators; so if this cylinder works then you have a Titan Model 10 or 20 and the correct Replacement Master Cylinder Cap is part # T4830601.

Thanks for the photos of your trailer's actuator! They were very helpful in answering your questions. Based on the photos, it appears that you have a Titan Model 10 Actuator # T1607500. For a Model 10 actuator, the # T2374400 that you referenced is the correct replacement master cylinder. If you'd also like to replace the master cylinder bracket assemblies, they are included with the master cylinder in part # T2374600. To install the master cylinder, the orifice connector you will need...

To replace the master cylinder on your Titan 10 brake actuator you can check out the diagram of the actuator I have attached. In the diagram there are two bolts that are noted you need to loosen to get to the master cylinder. They are part number 20 and 24. You can use a spray-on lubricant like WD40 to loosen the bolts before removing. Once you get the bolts out you can replace the master cylinder with the # T2374400 you asked about. You will also need an orifice connector # T1209800...

  • Replacement Parts and How to Clean Trailer Hydraulic Brake Actuating Couplers
Unfortunately, the rubber boot isn't available as a separate item. If you decide to replace the entire master cylinder, I'd be happy to recommend a replacement if you reply with the model of hydraulic brake coupler you have. To clean the reservoir. You'll want to do this in a well ventilated area. Remove the master cylinder from the actuator and empty the brake fluid from the reservoir. Spray the interior down with brake cleaner. Do this a few times, then scrub it well with an old toothbrush....

I spoke with my contact at Titan, and the # T2374400 master cylinder does include the boot and push rod, but their design does not require the gasket. Please note that this master cylinder is a replacement part only for the Titan brand Model 10 and Model 20 actuators. My contact also mentioned that the orifice size on this master cylinder has been changed to a 1/8 inch NPT (National Pipe Thread) in the past seven years, so if you have an older model actuator, the orifices would differ...

  • How to Tell Difference Between Titan Model 20 Drum and Disc Actuator
Look at the side of the master cylinder and you'll be able to tell which type of brakes it is designed for by the number. If you see 23744 stamped into the side of it you have a drum brake model. If you have 25744 stamped in the side it's for disc brakes. Also you can easily change either style to the other by swapping out the master cylinder. For a drum brake application you'd want the part # T2374400 or for disc part # T4747100.

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for a Model 10 or 20 Brake Actuator
I agree that the master cylinder in your pictures is for a Model 10 or 20 actuator so # T2374400 is the correct replacement. If the springs and hardware are in good shape operate properly then you would not have to replace the whole assembly. If they are not in good shape/operating properly then you will need # T2374600. If it were me this is the route I would take to ensure all the parts are new and in good working order.

  • No Fluid Pumping Out with on Actuator with New Master Cylinder Installed
When the actuator is pumped, you should see some fluid come out of the actuator. However, on brand new actuators or master cylinders like your Atwood product, it may simply need to be actuated a few times before it will start pumping out fluid. If you still do not have any luck, I recommend taking apart the actuator itself to see if there are any clogs that need to be cleaned out.
