Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

eZ-Latch Coupler

The coupler portion of this trailer brake actuator features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic.

Demco eZ-Latch in Use

Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Made of sturdy steel, this hydraulic trailer brake actuator features a durable zinc coating that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This zinc coat has a 200-hour salt spray rating. In addition, the composite master cylinder is made of corrosion-resistant glass-reinforced nylon to further ensure durability.

This was an exact replacement for my 25 year old hitch! So glad they have so many choices, very helpful and a perfect fit

Fine - I don’t use the brakes - just the tongue as that is the same model that was on there before
Nate - 01/25/2022

Nice coupler, however packaging is very insufficient and has been dropped where brake line threads, threads were damaged in the master cylinder and the brass adapter to the hose is bent. The packaging only has a couple pieces of shipping paper in it, not near enough to prevent shipping damage

Used this for a homemade dump trailer.

it was best to use a skid steer to bleed the system, move the tongue in. Then have a chain to back out. 2 person job.

Overall good product. Brakes work great! Plan on making a cover for the reservoir tank.

Excellent product and it’s working great !!!!

Working great !!!

I live on a farm where it seems we're always fixing trailers or building trailers for use. I have bought several hitches from etrailer and they have ALWAYS been helpful. Great selection to choose from also. Recommend them highly.

Solid construction and good design

Bolted in place of the old one with minor drilling. Easy to bleed the system and works great.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator Recommendation for Donzi Boat Trailer
It's not an exact match but the surge brake actuator we offer that would match what you have the best is the Demco part # DM8759411. This is for drum brakes, has a drop for the coupler portion like your current coupler, and has more than enough capacity at 8k. Also it fits a 2-5/16 inch ball like what you have. The mounting holes won't line up though as they won't center on the frame channel like your current actuator. You can still have this welded on though in place of what you have...

  • Replacement 8K Actuator Coupler for Alumaweld Rogue Single Axle Drum Brake Trailer
The linked page displays the 8K-rated drum brake surge actuators, both bolt-on and weld-on types. You can click on the coupler ball size you need, 2-inch or 2-5/16-inch, to see options. For example, Demco bolt-on coupler # DM8759411 takes a 2-5/16 inch ball and fits trailer tongues that are 3-inches wide. I checked the Alumaweld website and also called them to find out the width of the tongue on your trailer but they were not able to confirm. I also called one of their dealers in Orgeon,...

  • Bolt Hole Dimensions for Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8759411
I attached a picture that has the bolt hole dimensions of the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8759411 for you to check out but the distance between the two closer holes is 3 inches and the distance between the two holes further apart is 9-1/2 inches.

  • Surge Brake Actuator Recommendation to Replace TITAN / DICO Model 60Z
Yes, the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8759411 that you referenced will work on a tandem axle trailer with drum brakes like what you have. The latch system of this would also work well too since it automatically latches to the ball.

  • Can the Demco DM8758811 Replace Hydraulic Brake Actuator for 2 Inch Ball With 6,600 Pound GTW
Yes, you can replace your current brake actuator with the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Disc - Zinc - 2-5/16" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8758811. When selecting a brake actuator you must select one that meets or exceeds the GTWR of the trailer. Assuming you have a 3" wide trailer tongue and the 4" drop works for you, this will work well as a replacement. Keep in mind, this is designed for disc brakes. If you have hydraulic drum brakes you will want the # DM8759411 instead. I have...

  • Can a 12,500 Pound Brake Actuating Trailer Coupler be Used in Place of a 7,500 Pound Coupler
If you go with a higher capacity brake actuator than what the trailer requires the braking can be very aggressive. If the trailer is supposed to have a 7,500 pound capacity actuator then that is what I recommend sticking with that or going up to an 8,000 pound model such as # DM8759411.

  • Replacement Brake Actuator for Global Direct GDC-80 Brake Actuator
We have the perfect replacement for your Global Direct GDC-80 brake actuator. Since you mentioned "down tongue" I believe you were referring to having an actuator with drop. If you have disc brakes, the best option is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Disc # DM8758811 and if you have drum brakes the best option is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Drum # DM8759411. Both of these actuators have a 4" drop, are compatible with a 2-5/16" hitch ball, have an 8,000 lb capacity...

  • Replacement for Titan Model 6 Trailer Brake Actuator
That is a great photo, thank you; and while there are certain repair parts available for a Titan Model 6, I recommend replacing it altogether. The reason for this is the corrosion looks to have taken its toll on the actuator, and is at the point where a replacement makes the most sense in terms of safety and value. The Titan Model 60 is still a good option, and the right one will depend on if you have disc or drum brakes: - Disc Brakes: Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc - 2-5/16"...
