Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Replacement Hub, Bearings, and Grease Seal for 3,500 lb Dexter Axle
You are correct that is a 3,500 lb axle. If you want a bearing kit the # BK2-100 you looked at is the right one. This comes with a # L44649 outer and # L68149 inner bearing along with a # 58846 (10-19) grease seal. If you want a replacement idler hub you can use the # AKIHUB-655-35-K or for a hub and drum assembly the # AKHD-655-35-K. Both of these have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern.

  • Looking For Replacement For AL-KO-7230 Hub On Old Bison 2 Horse Bumper Pull Trailer
Hello Chris, thanks for reaching out. Based on my research, it looks like the AL-KO-7230 is a hub for a 3,500 lb axle with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. We do offer a replacement for this, and for that I recommend the following: - Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 6 on 5-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-655-35-K

  • Replacement 3500 lb Hub/Drum for TruRyde RVD-H-65535 10 Inch Trailer Brake Drum
The hub you describe is a 3500 lb 10 inch hub/drum with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern which uses an L44649 outer and an L68149 inner wheel bearing and a 58846 grease seal. For a replacement, I'd recommend the # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K hub/drum. The hub/drum includes the inner and outer bearings, races, the grease seal, dust caps for both EZ Lube and standard spindles as well as lug nuts. The hubs are pre-packed with grease. For replacement brake assemblies, I'd go with # AKEBRK-35-SA self-adjusting...

  • Brakes for Second Axle on Horse Trailer
Hey Robert! Ideally you're going to get 12V all the way back to the brakes but that typically doesn't happen. What exactly is the issue? Are they not working at all? At 8-9V I would expect them to have most of their functionality to a point you probably wouldn't notice. Are you saying you have 11V at the brake assemblies when you use the jumper pack? Do you have full 12V coming off of your vehicle when you use the manual override on your brake controller? Some typical issues with low voltage...

  • Trailer Hub & Drum & Brakes For Lippert 4,400 lb Axle
Hi Roman, Thanks for the photo and what you have there is a Lippert 4,400 lb axle. Those use the same bearings and hubs as 3,500 lb axles so you'll use a 3,500 lb hub, though the brakes are going to be 4,400 lb brakes (they'll still fit in the drum though). So here is exactly what you need: - Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K - Lippert Electric Trailer Brakes - 4.4K Lippert Axles # LC66WD - Brake Mounting Hardware # BRKH10B The hub and drum comes with the bearings and seal...

  • Recommended Replacement Pre-Greased Hubs for a Lippert 4,400 lb Axle
Dennis, many times Dexter hubs will fit on a Lippert axle, but Lippert does have a few axles out there with special spindle sizes. For your Lippert 4,400 lb axle, you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K. Your 4,400 lb axle does use the same 3,500 lb axle hubs so these'll work great. These hubs also come pre-greased, includes all of the bearings, races, seals, grease cap and lug nuts.

  • Does etrailer Hub for 3,500 lb Trailer Axle AKHD-655-35-K Come Pre-Greased
Hey Craig, sorry about the confusion but the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K that you referenced does come pre-greased and ready to install. The bearings are in the hub, they have been packed with grease, and there's a grease seal installed as well so it will be a super easy and clean install. Pricing is hard to pin down but different brands offer products to us at different rates so sometimes it doesn't always seem logical that more money is better.

  • Replacement Trailer Hub for AL-KO 8490 With 6 on 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern
Thank you for the photos, they were very helpful; we do have replacements for the AL-KO 8490 hubs with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you have, though to make sure you get the correct replacement you need to take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. • Complete Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit for Boat Trailer With 3,500 lb Axles
I would need some more information before setting you up. What is your axle's weight capacity? Do you have an idler hub or hub and drum? What size are your wheels? • Can Hub/Drums for Hydraulic Brake Assemblies be Reused Once Converted to Electric
Hey Larry, if the armature surface of the drum is smooth then yes it can be used with your electric brake assemblies. Most of the time this is the case but sometimes if the drum was used for hydraulic assemblies it's not always. The surface would need to be smooth because the magnet grabs onto it there. Let me know what axle capacity you have and the wheel bolt pattern if you need to replace the hub/drums.

Hi Adam; based on the measurements we have from another customer the bearing combination for this hub assembly is obsolete. I recommend using the Replacement Trailer Hub Wheel Stud # 165981, instead of # DX98FR. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K you reference, calls for 1/2"-1-1/4" wheel studs. The Replacement Trailer Hub Wheel Stud # 165981 is the closest I was able to find, and measures 1/2"-1-1/2", however this should work just fine.
