An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

When hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear of the vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the vehicle's weight as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. The resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with the vehicle's factory suspension to keep the vehicle level and improve your driving performance.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a vehicle-specific bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape provides increased resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer helping to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or passing of a semi) because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside quicker.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened as the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the competition:

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - no air hoses are needed to be run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments necessary. The rubber construction causes Timbren's springs to be more elastic than similar products constructed of micro-cellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Timbren Front and Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Timbren line of suspension enhancement systems. Any time that we add weight to our vehicle, it's going to put a lot of strain and stress on the suspension, especially if we're towing a heavy camper, trailer, or we have a heavy load in the back.Tends to have the back end squat down, which again, it's going to put that strain and stress on the rear suspension because not only are we asking it to hold up the weight of the vehicle, but everything else that we add on to it. Which that can arise a lot of different issues. The front end is going to be getting pulled off, which will misalign our headlights, and our tires won't have as much contact, so our steering and braking is going to be diminished. But tat;s where timbrens are going to come into play. They're going to provide us that extra support so that when we do have those heavy loads, the back end doesn't sag down quite as much, and it's not putting so much stress on the back end. By doing that, the front end's not going to rise up, which means our headlights will be in line and our tires will have the correct amount of contact and pressure, so our braking and steering isn't affected.

And they're going to do that all while making our ride more comfortable with that extra load. Our timbrens are going to provide us the support we need by replacing our factory jump stops and mounting in between the frame and the axle. Now, yours may look different, so you want to double check inaudible 00:01:20 fit guide for your specific application. Now, each one of our timbrens is going to feature a steel bracket. They're all going to have black, powder coat finish on them to resist that rust and corrosion or any other kind of chemicals that may be on the road. They're going to have a hollow, rubber ayon 00:01:36 spring that's going to take a lot of that pressure and strain off of the rear suspension.Whenever we do load our vehicle down, the space between our frame and our axle is going to get smaller. That's where our spring is going to make contact with the axle, and it's going to start compressing.

Now, they are progressively rated, so if we have a small load or a light load, it's going to have a little soft engagement. But the further it gets compressed, the harder and stiffer it becomes, giving us the support we need with those heavy loads. And since they are rubber, they're going to have a lot of give to them, which means they're going to give us the support we need. But at the same time, they're going to give us some more cushion and absorb some of the road shock as we drive. And since the rear ones here aren't in constant contact with our aXle, it is going to provide us the same ride quality when it's unloaded. Our timbrens are going to work independently from each other from side to side. That way, if we have an off center load, it will help compensate for that, but at the same time, if we take an evasive maneuver or a really sharp turn, this is going to help reduce that body roll and some of that sway feeling that we get going on when we have a lot of added weight. Our timbrens for the rear are going to be a good enhancement for any time you're going to be adding weight to the back of your vehicle, whether it be a heavy trailer, a large load in the back or any other situation where you're adding a lot of weight to the back of your vehicle. Now, timbrens on the front are going to be a little bit different.

They're going to provide us that load-leveling support and make sure the front end doesn't get pushed down too far. However, these typically are going to be in contact all the time, which means it's going to give us that support and help reduce on that body roll all the time, all while absorbing that road shock, giving us a smoother ride. Now, some situations where you'd want that extra support on the front of the vehicle to keep it from getting pushed down too much would be if you have a snow plow or winch, if you flat-tow your vehicle, or if you have any other heavy accessory on the front. This is going to make sure that front end stays where it should be, and again, making sure our tires, braking and steering acts how they should. When comparing the timbrens to other suspension enhancement options like airbags, these are going to be a lot easier to install because we're not going to have to worry about running lines, maintaining air pressure, putting in switches or compressors or any of that. Once these are installed, these are going to be completely maintenance free. However, airbags are going to provide us with a lot more adjustability, whereas our timbrens are not going to have that. That'll finish up your look at the timbrens suspension enhancement systems..

Fairly simple to install. Did not have to Jack up my 18 f150, but would have probably made it easier. Install was pretty straight forward bolt on operation. I Haven't pulled my 28 ft camper yet. The bump stops I removed were 1/3 the size of the new ones. They should work real well. No noticeable ride difference with no load. Thanks. 641299

got the product when stated , went on simple enough but used google to really see how things went together. Timbren doesn't give very good instructions with their product wish they would put diagram so as to be able to see how brackets go, but happy so far haven't put load on the truck yet that's coming up with a trip in august with my 30ft camper and truck loaded for trip guess will come back and let you know how the product works after the trip , but etrailer delivered when they said they would thanks will keep you in mind for future purchases. 544811

Not sure if it was a returned product or horrible packaging on Timbren's part but the item was only about 75% painted when it arrived. It was pretty obvious the parts where banging together in the box which made a large portion of the paint chip off. Raw steel exposed to salt during the winter would eat these things alive. Not looking forward to spending several hours sand blasting and repainting a product that was suppose to come that way. 406297

Ordered these (6,000 lb Kit) to cure getting too nose high when towing after installing a Bilstein 5100 Level Kit on my 2016 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 (front struts set on max 2.10" setting sitting nearly perfectly level). Tow a 29' overall length travel trailer (~5,500 lbs) and for work we use a 20'x8' enclosed trailer (~9,000 lbs when loaded). Use a WD hitch, but still get the nose up when pulling both. Install was easy. Read through the instructions and watched a video before they came in. Crawled underneath and installed in about 30 minutes after I received them. Didn't remove the spare or the heat shield like the video I watched showed. A lift would have made it easier of course, but can be done in the driveway if you like doing stuff yourself. Used the included spacer and have about a 1" gap, which falls in the advised .5" to 1.5" range from the instructions. I haven't gotten to use them with the work trailer, but I have pulled the travel trailer and they do exactly as advertised, cures the sag, and nose doesn't go up at all. May be slight nose up with the work trailer, but I wouldn't believe it will be like before. Driving while hooked up feels smoother, too, with less body roll/lean in turns. So, overall satisfied with the purchase. The only reason this is getting 4 stars is that, like others have stated, the parts that were painted left a lot to be desired. Very sloppy with some areas that were already flaking off and one part had a spot that was completely missed by paint. The piece that goes underneath the axle to secure the contact plate is not even painted, it's just raw metal. So, I'm curious about what that will look like after one salty winter here in MO. I may find some time before the winter hits and take everything off and do some painting myself, but for $215 you'd kind of think that wouldn't be something to worry about doing with a brand new part. 543563

After 1 year, I’m still very satisfied. Have towed many times with them and the truck stays right at level. This will be something I order for every truck I get in the future. Improves towing without the cost of airbags. I didn’t have to wait more than a few weeks for the rust to appear, though. Had to take everything off and apply a couple coats with some industrial grade Rust-o-leum paint and have been doing good so far. Frustrating to have to do that, but at least I know to do it every time in the future.

Night and day difference while towing. This is one of the best additions to my truck. My camper is around 7k pounds. My back end doesn't sag as much and doesn't bounce as ki when towing. Not noticeable when unloaded. I recommend this to everyone e who tows. 613728

Solid Product! Yeah it's a stiffer ride when loaded But that's the sacrifice made to have more control of the haul while underway. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay more level with a heavy boat/trailer setup as in my case. Not that install is hard but removal of spare tire before install, may have helped with space if you don't have a lift. 511931

Product works great, 100% better when I’m towing. I have absolutely no complaints about the product. The only issue I had was the package was short 2 washers that the instructions called for. Product has done exactly what I wanted it to do while towing with the F150 (Limit the sag and porpoising). The only potential negative is that you will bottom out easier over speed bumps but you can avoid that by slowing down to a normal speed. Also after 6 months you rarely feel it. Great Product and worth every penny. 488710

I just completed installation of my Timbren Rear Suspension for my 2016 Ford F150. In 2012 I purchased this same product from etrailer for my Ford F150, which I upgraded to the 2016. I have a 5th wheel and the Timbren product allows my vehicle to be perfectly level in all situations. A great product!!! 274107

Product arrived within a business week. Took a couple days for me to get around to installing it on my Ford 150 Lariat 4x4. Not bad to install, I had to do it laying on my back in my garage. Finally hooked up my 4th wheel to my Andersen hitch today. Truck was level, 5th wheel was level, and I was happy. Ready to rock 'n' roll. 420451

2017 Ram 5500

Self Installed on my 2017 Super Cab F150 4x4. Stock unloaded ride height was 9 3/4" clearance from top of tire to bottom of rear fender arch. I pull about a 5500 lb travel trailer with WD hitch. This lowers ride height by 1.5" to 8 1/2" clearance. Installation was straight forward, only issue for me is that the lower bracket that goes around the differential/axle was unpainted raw steel. I shot some matt black enamel on it to help with rust before installing. I did not use the extra rubber disc, as there would of been only about 3/4" of axle travel unloaded and I did not want an overly harsh ride. A test drive unloaded, showed that the ride was only slightly more stiff, and not enough to make much of a difference of a stock ride without. There is about 2" of gap or free travel of axle to rubber stopper when the truck is unloaded. Loaded/towing my trailer, the ride was improved over stock -no Timbren. I have about 1 " of travel before contact is made with the rubber stoppers. This smooths out the 'bucking" or sway motion that you can sometimes get while towing on uneven surface roads at speed. I would only recommend adding the extra rubber spacer disc if you regularly carry a large payload. This is a good product for a great value, that will make your towing, or load carrying more comfortable and safe. I would've rated 5 stars except for two reasons: the unpainted brackets and the thread area on the rubber mounts that is fully loaded with paint and makes threading the rubber mount bolts more difficult than it should be. 472157

I have a 2016 Ford F150 Regular Cab with 6.5 foot box and 5.0 engine, 6400 lb payload package, 9.75" ring gear with 3.73 gears with a locker. (Hard to find!) Ease of installation is easy, with even minor mechanical skills. I took my time and it was 40 minutes to install both sides. Took some measurement of the factory bump stop distances to the axle - 6.5 inch's approximately. (Would take a lot of weight to compress it that far!! Have hauled some rocks before, almost 1 ton and it was still 3 inchs from touching the axle!) After installing I took some measurement of the gap between the plates and the rubber that will come into contact with when the suspension compress's. Left side (Driver) was 1.25 inch. (Full gas tank.) Right side (Passenger) 1.50 inch. Have not driven it yet to see how the suspension will ride before these Timbren Rubbers will come into play. Purchased these to help when I haul a 700 Yamaha Grizzley ATV (750 lbs approx.) and tow a camp trailer with a 550 lb tongue wt. approx. Separately the truck would be level, but with both it was squatting it to much. I am hoping this helps in that situation & to help stabilize the ride. Gave a 3 for easy of installtion, but yet to be determined how well it will help when towing & or hauling ATV or both, and how the ride will be empty. 471198

Comments

I spoke with my Timbren representative, who tells me that its likely the full tank of gas is causing the 14 inch space differential between the driver/passenger Aeon spring and the axle. They do have spacers available that are as small as a half inch, but all that would do in your case is make the other side 1/4 inch closer to the axle. Any load thats capable of compressing the suspension so the springs contact the axle would cause both springs to contact at the same time, so that small differential wouldnt be anything to be concerned about. Let us know if youre interested in the spacer, Timbren will send you one if youre interested.

I wanted to try to get some support when pulling my 33 foot RV trailer. It does a wonderful job of support the ride and stability. But it does give a stiffer ride when empty. I wish there will be a redesign of the ride when empty. But as for the support when towing, it's great. 429047

Etrailer did an excellent job. 2 day shipping for less than $8. No brainer. Staff was helpful on the phone answering questions. I ordered online and that was easy as well. Product: these went on 16 F150 4x4 supercrew with tow package and e rated upgrade tires. I use the vehicle to pull 7000 lb travel trailer. Purpose for the purchase was to help with sway and slight sag in the rear. I use a wdh with sway but that was not performing good enough. I choose these after some research. Install: easy. I didn't use a jack or lift. I just assembled with one inch spacer. I had an inch between the bottom of the timbren and the stop plate. I am no mechanic. Unloaded was pretty much what I expected. You hit a big bump, you get some jarring. 90% pleased. First tow with 16'6" boat (full windshield). The timbren was not engaged from the weight of the boat. Bumps were a little ruff. Added weight from equipment will take care of the space and ride should be better. 85% pleased with towing the boat. Travel trailer tow. Almost completely leveled truck with combination wdh and timbren. Was able to comfortably tow. Took out most of sway I had experienced. Almost 0 bounce, even at low speeds. Basically did everything I wanted it to do. 95% pleased. 4 stars because the unloaded ride is stiffer than I would like and pulling the boat maybe a tad ruff without equipment. This will be especially true in ruff roads. But at half the cost of air bags and ease of installation I do think they are worth the money. Would recommend to those that do not mind a rougher ride every now and then. 377432

I am so glad to have foud this product, and thus the best solution I could have wished for since I realised that my 2016 F150 was sagging a bit too much when fully loaded with my travel trailer attached. Very easy to install. Now everything is straight! And the beauty of it is that the suspension works normally when there's no load in the truck. Love it. 358151

I have been towing a 7500lb camper with my 2015 Ford F-150. Prior to installing the Timbren suspension, the sag in the back was very noticeable. The F-150 also is known for having a softer suspension which translates into more suspension travel while under load, making for a very "boat in the waves" type ride. After installing the system, which took about half an hour, there is a noticeable difference. The rear end hardly drops once the camper is hooked up and the ride is much better. I would highly recommend this product to fellow F-150 owners as it makes towing a heavy trailer much easier. The installation was simple! I did not install the spacers and I did not even need to jack up the truck to install the product. I had plenty of room underneath the truck. It only leaves about an inch of gap between the timbren bag and the axle versus the wide gap of the factory product. You will notice it, while not under load, if you hit a large bump. Other than that it is pretty unnoticeable when traveling with no load on the truck. Thank you Timbren! Roger 514301

Installed on 2016 F150 Platinum, without jacking it up, in 1/2 hour per side. One part has word "LEFT" printed on it, yet there is no diagram showing which is left. Seemed obvious it was driver side, but clarity of diagram would have helped. Stock bumpers had maybe 6" of gap. These have about 1.5" of gap. I was very concerned about the backend hopping when hitting small bumps (unloaded). Maybe 15 miles of driving and I simply have not noticed this replacement at all. Thats a great sign. Next month I will tow trailer, that is the important test and the reason for purchasing this upgrade. 521868

Rear suspension pads work great. Ride is still like factory with no load unless driving over a big bump at high speed. When towing a 32 foot travel trailer the sag in back end of truck is greatly reduced with a lot more control. Easy to install. The downside is when truck is full with passengers and not towing anything the added weight makes the ride rougher. Shipped on time. 575558

Recently installed these on my 2016 F150 4x4 Supercrew. Product was shipped quickly and arrived on schedule, and boxed up nicely. Install was relatively quick - about a 1/2 hour (a ratcheting wrench was helpful). Towed the boat and gear again for an annual trip, and the sag I experienced last year was greatly diminished and the truck handled better. Ride is very comfortable while on the rubber. Unloaded, there is a bit of a jarring bump when the rubbers are contacted after the 1 1/2 inch gap, but its only noticeable if you remember how it rode before... They did their job, and I would purchase again. However, as others have pointed out, the finish on the metal parts leaves some to be desired - the paint was flaking off at several locations of the parts in the box. Since the install, rust is apparent on these locations. I will be removing, removing the rust, and refinishing to make it more durable... 526471

The Timbren TFR1504E fit my 2016 Ford F150 truck perfectly. It was easy to install using just a floor jack and a jack stand. I bought this enhancement system because my wife and I enjoy camping and pull a Rockwood travel trailer. Prior to installing the system I had noticed some squatting and body roll when towing. Not sure how much this system has helped because I have not towed the trailer since installation. 412158

We have plans to take our pop-top-slide-in camper to Alaska this coming summer. When we first bought the camper we had an F-350, no problems. But as it was getting a bit old, as we are too, it was time to trade up. We were sold on the F-150 with the Eco-boost, the sales guy said "not to worry" and a car sales guy would never fib.. right? Thing is the engine does fine, lots of torque, a haul-tow mode for the little hills in the west, and really great fuel economy. But our little 1100lb camper had a mind of it's own on the light suspension. Enter the rear suspension "helper", goes on easy, works great. Except (a little except for the folks in the back seat of the crew cab) they get a pretty hard ride. No big deal, I'm driving. 486776

Great company to work with. Install took less than 30 min and didn't even have to jack the truck up to do it. Made a huge difference when towing our large travel trailer. Much smoother ride and trailer feels more controllable. One bad thing. When I opened the box the pieces had all banged around in there for a while. The paint job was very poorly done so a lot of the paint had chipped off. I'm gonna take them back off and have them powered coated (like the manufaur should have done) before the road salt gets to them this winter. 418490

I like this over other suspension upgrades because it is passive when the truck is not carrying a load or trailer tongue weight. The spacers were not needed on my 2015 2WD Supercab. Very simple install. I recommend installing the upper bracket first and then the rubber spring. 566770

My 2019 F150 sagged after hooking up my 7500 lb GVW trailer. The Timbren system recommended by Etrailer corrected this. I experienced great customer service, multiple delivery options, and a high quality product. The new equipment fixed my issue. I have more confidence towing knowing that the vehicle is safely aligned. I will definately look at more products from Etrailer. 728410

I have a 2016 F150 XLT. Max towing package. Front end has spacer to level the truck. Then when i tow it squats really bad. With the weight distribution hitch it still squats. I installed this product and you can see in the picture before and after. With no distribution hitch it’s barely squatting. Fantastic product. Nice thing it allows suspension to flex independently still unlike air bag kits. 727665

It does improve handling for the 2018 F-150 while towing. When it does bottom, it is very harsh. When not towing, it makes the ride very uncomfortable on a smooth road. Any uneven surface makes the ride bouncy and too stiff to be practical. Removed the product and installed an air ride system. 722347

Best product to eliminate squat or sag on especially a 1/2 ton truck with a leveling kit (2018 F-150, Supercrew,FX4) in my case without compromising ride like you would with an add-a-leaf. These Timbrens are the way to go and are easy to install. I tow a 24ft. Travel trailer that weighs 6k. Lbs. using a WDH hitch and they work great. The truck handles much better when towing and they help eliminate that light feeling in the steering. I would definitely recommend. 716631

Ordered and received my rubber springs in a timely matter and had them installed with in 45 minutes. I purchase them to keep my truck from sagging in the rear when I tow my travel trailer. I have not tow the trailer yet to see how much they will solve the sag problem. I was impress on how easy they were to install. 675146

This was used on a 4 wheel drive Ford F150 to tow a 7000 pound travel trailer. Installed with spacer. While towing it definitely improved performance and stability. When towing use a weight distributing/anti-sway hitch. Without the trailer driving on smooth roads there is no impairment in the function of the truck. On slightly rougher areas or speed bumps there is a sharp end point. 669974

One year in and we don't even know it's there. The ride while towing and hauling a very heavy load in the truck bed has been perfect. We have gotten used to the stiffer ride, so we forget the units are installed until we need them. 640367

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

  • Recommended Rear Axle Suspension Kit for 2018 Ford F-150 4WD Short Bed
  • The best choice of rear axle suspension kit for your 2018 F-150 will depend on the type of towing or hauling you're doing. All rear-axle kits for your 4WD F-150 appear on the linked page. If you are routinely hauling cargo loads of widely varying weight then an adjustable air bag setup will give you the ability to match the bag air pressure to suit each different load. If you are towing a 5th wheel then you can get good results from a lower-cost jounce spring kit from Timbren that will...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2016 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4x4
  • The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System # TFRTT1504E is a confirmed fit for your truck. With a 1,100 lb tongue weight trailer, this system will help to keep the rear end from squat and your headlights from being too high to see the road as intended. These will act as a shock absorber as well as helping to stabilize your truck when under load. These spring are made for severe service vehicles like tow trucks so I don't recommend then for your truck as they can actually cause your truck...

  • Timbren Suspension Kit Recommendation for 2016 Ford F-150 4x4
  • Both of the kits you mentioned are a fit for your 2016 Ford F-150. The difference is that the part # TFR1504E has a 6,000 lb capacity and the part # TFRTT1504E has a 7,000 lb capacity. You would want to go with the lower rated spring as it will be a smoother ride quality. The higher capacity will be harsher. A 13 mm socket will be used to remove the bolt that holds your current bump stop in place. You basically will then need to use the attached diagram to assemble all of the Timbren...

  • Towing 5th Wheel Trailer with 2018 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
  • I was able to pull up the online towing specs for your 2018 Ford F-150 and it looks like there is still a somewhat large potential range even within the specs that you provided depending on your axle ratio, drivetrain, and wheelbase. At the low end on your F-150 SuperCrew with the 3.5 V6 engine it shows a 5th wheel towing capacity of 6,500 pounds for the 4X4 model with a 145 inch wheelbase and the 3.55 axle ratio. At the high end your F-150 can have a 5th wheel towing capacity of up to...

  • Things To Consider When Changing from a 3/4 Ton to 1/2 Ton Tow Vehicle
  • There are a few things you need to consider when switching from a 3/4 ton like your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 to a 1/2 ton like a 2018 Ford F-150. For starters, the 3/4 ton is going to have a stiffer suspension than the 1/2 ton. This means that although the 3/4 ton did not squat while towing your trailer, that's not to say that the 1/2 won't even though it may still have a higher towing capacity. Also, the 3/4 ton will be more geared towards towing while means it likely has upgraded...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement For 2016 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4WD With 6.5 Foot Box
  • For your Ford F-150 Lariat Crew Cab with 6.5 foot bed and 4WD, I recommend the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # AL57385. This system like the Roadmaster Active Suspension Kit # RAS3611-Y is adjustable, so it is more versatile for your specific needs. The Timbren springs # TFR1504E and SumoSprings # SSR-117-47 are not adjustable. The nice part about the jounce springs is that they require no maintainance, so you just install and go. They compress and add stability...

  • How Do I Prevent a Rough Ride While Unloaded Using Helper Springs
  • The Air Lift Ride Control Air Helper Springs part # AL59570 which are a fit for your 2016 Ford F-150 should not really affect the ride quality while the airbags are deflated. How much air pressure are you running while unloaded? The minimum and what I recommend is 5 psi as this is going to prevent the airbags from deforming and it shouldn't really have any effect on ride quality. If after reducing the air pressure you are still not happy with the unloaded ride quality, they do have...

  • The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFR1504E is a fit for a factory height 2017 or 2018 Ford F-150. To drop the truck height will require custom fabrication as you stated. There isn't a spacer, just the brackets and the jounce spring, so this may not be the best option for you. My recommendation is to use a system that doesn't require that extra fabrication. You can use the Roadmaster Active Suspension Kit # RAS3611-B which will give you a mechanically active system to...

  • Rear End Still Sagging on 2016 Ford F-150 Even when Using Weight Distribution
  • What you are experiencing is common when using weight distribution with a 1/2 ton truck. You can try making adjustments to the weight distribution and that could very well fix the problem. But if it doesn't I recommend adding rear helper springs to reduce or eliminate the squat. Take a look at Timbren springs # TFR1504E. • Does Timbren Rear Suspension Require Spacer on 2018 Ford F-150
  • While the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFR1504E may be able to technically fit without using the spacer, it will likely not offer you the best performance. It is supposed to be pretty tight and without the use of the spacer, the Timbrens will have to travel more, so they won't be quite as good without it. I highly recommend trying to get the spacer on the system to get the most out of the system.

There isn't a way around that short of replacing the Timbren springs with air bags. With air bags you could adjust the amount of air which will in turn change how stiff the ride is.
