Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your truck when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your truck level, maintain even load distribution, and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your truck sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control, and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your truck and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

The air pressure in the Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your truck by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your truck's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring components

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your truck. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. No drilling is required for installation.

Video Transcript for Firestone Vehicle Suspension - Rear Axle Suspension Enhancement - F2582 Review

Today were going to take a look at the Firestone double convoluted Ride-Rite air helper springs for your rear axle. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2015 and newer Ford F-150 trucks. On a custom fit part, I always like to recommend for you to go to our Website, use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle, and itll show you if this will work for your application. This kit will maximize safe load-carrying capacity, increase your stability and improve your ride quality. These do install between your vehicles frame and its rear suspension.

These will help keep your vehicle level when youre hauling a heavy load. It improves your steering control and braking when youre hauling or towing. It also will level your headlight beams, and itll even reduce tire wear. The kit will maintain even load distribution with air pressure, levelling any off-center loads. These air bags will adjust manually side to side with individual inflation valves. They will help reduce strain on your rear suspension, because theyll prevent permanent sagging and excessive friction in your release springs.

They also increase your stability, helps absorb road shock for a nice, smooth ride, and itll soften the contact between your axle and frame, to prevent any bottoming out. They do also provide maximum load support and durability. They use a rubber construction, and its a double convoluted design. This part will include all the materials that are necessary for installation. It comes with the air springs, all the mounting brackets, the mounting hardware, the air line, separate valves for the manual inflation. It comes with a nice set of detailed instructions.

Also, there are switches, gauges, compressors and air tanks that are available, to make it a quick and easy air spring inflation and deflation from inside your vehicle. Those items we do sell separately on our Website. This part is made in the USA. A few specs on this; the adjustable air pressure is 5 PSI to 100 PSI. The load levelling capacity is 4,800 pounds. You do want to remember, Ride-Rite springs will not increase your vehicles weight carrying capacity, so you want to make sure not to exceed the manufacturers recommended weight limit. That should do it for the review on the Firestone double convoluted Ride-Rite air helper springs for the rear axle..

I have received Ride-Rite, and gone through the box everything seems to be built from high-quality materials. It wouldn't be fair to write an accurate review until I install the Ride-Rite. So until this happens,s I can't say. But I can say is, that two of my friends have the Ride-Rite system on their trucks, and love them, plus having nothing but good things about the system. That why I brought one for myself. Once I put the system on, I will come back and post a full review. 559190

Exactly what we needed to be able to maintain great ride quality and be able to adjust psi to ensure level truck and keep night time visibility (headlights on road) when carrying a load. 443723

I have used the Firestone suspension air bags to adjust my 2017 F150 when carrying large cargo box loads. It worked very well for the loads I was carrying, which were between 800 lbs to as much as 1100 lbs on other occasions. My only objection is a slow leak in my left side, which may be in the left air bag itself or tubing fittings. After I installed the system, I used a soap solution to check for leaks. At the time I could not find any. Because it is a slow leak, I simply have had to top off either the left or right side air bags and I am fine to go for the day. 636096

Comments

Dont forget to check at the Schrader valve, as well. Those have been known to leak. The soap solution test works great, unless its a very slow leak.

This product makes a huge difference when hauling my new horse trailer. The product took a few hours to install. The online video was excellent and really aided the installation. Good tips, tricks and things to watch out for. The only improvement I would make relates to instructions and instructional videos. The U-bolts are extremely long. The locking nuts took a long time to turn down. If I was tipped off early, I would have spent the money on a deep socket. 312685

This is my 2nd purchase of this system . 1st time for my 2013 Ford F-150 Limited , easy to install ,instructions were great and they worked awesome for pulling my car trailers and my travel trailer with the bed loaded with firewood and camping equipment. This time I purchased it for my 2019 Ford F-150 Limited. The kit was complete and as before easy to install. I took my time to route the air lines in the frame to hide them and used provided protectors so no chafing . I purchased the tee fitting to conect 2 lines into 1 and used the mounting bracket . I would highly recommend this product to enhance your trucks rear suspension . 615241

Great product if you are thinking of loading the rear end with a lot of weight. I had to load my truck with tile and it sagged so I did my research and etrailer has been my go to place when it comes to vehicle acceries for anything . Installations was easy 504777

Ordered the firestone air bags. Received them a few days later and installed them in about 2 hours. Took longer than maybe the norm because I’m recovering from rotator surgery. I’m pulling a 8,100 ice castle rv Behind my Ford 150 xlt LB. they work great and feel safer going down the road. Thanks etrailer 614960

The kit bolted on fine, was very simple to accomplish - once I had the right bolts! The critical 3/8-16x3/4 bolt that anchors the airbag to the bottom plate was actually shipped with a 3/8-16x2-1/2. Obviously didn't fit. I did do a check for the correct parts in quantity before I started but didn't realize I needed to measure every fastener. Also one of the air line Schrader valves was defective and wouldn't hold air. Had to beg a neighbor to drag me around to find parts on a Sunday since my truck was disassembled and in the air. To be clear, not an etrailer.com issue, but shame on Firestone. 316429

Installed on 2016 F-150. This product works as advertised! Very easy to install, you may need an extra pair of hands though. Installed in just under three hours in garage with floor jack and jack stands. A lift would definitely aid with installation but not necessary. Once installed it was easy to dial in the correct amount of air to inflate the bags. I needed to get my headlights out of the sky and back on the road while pulling our 25 foot deck boat. Smashing success! I also noticed another benefit of the helper springs, even at the minimum required air pressure it really stiffened up the suspension to take some of bucking that the long wheel base trucks experience. 401924

Bad pa winters. Salt. Bad roads. Towing 18k pounds plus. Flawless performance. These air bags also with just a few pounds in them when not towing make a world of difference in handling. Great product! Bought them for my 36 class A motorhome too!

Very happy with this product. I used it on a 7,000 mile cross country travel trailer trip to level my trailer to prevent sway. Coupled with my WD hitch, sway was almost non-existent. As an example, I noticed a slight difference in towing from an almost empty TV gas and a full tank. Some fine tuning with my air pump resolved that. Also, a little extra tongue weight and drop was remedied with increasing air in the bags. The only negative was the bags loses some air when not under extra weight. I had my mechanic check for a leak but none was found so he claimed it must be thru the pump. not a deal breaker. 606083

I recently installed the Firestone Ride Rite air helper springs model # 2582 on my 2016 F150 Supercrew 4x4. The install was straight forward. I watched a couple of the etrailer installation videos before I installed the Ride Rites. I found the videos very helpful. I installed the Ride Rites on my truck in my driveway on jack stands. I think it took me about 2 to 3 hours. The driver side took longer to install because the hard brake lines block access to the hole in the frame. It also took me a little while to choose the best route for the air lines. I am going to be installing the Air Lift WirelessOne system very soon to use with the Ride Rites. I am very happy with how the Ride Rite system turned out. 479226

Typically not a review writer but in this case I'll make an exception. Prior to purchase of Firestone airbags truck and travel trailer would get pulled into box truck, bus or big rig vortex when passed not to mention cross wind drift. Reviewed several products, watched many youtube videos and asked several RV owners about different products. Decided on Firestone at the end. Installation was easy and etrailer's installation video removed all the "gotchas" from the process. One year later I've had zero issues with airbags. No longer do I have truck/trailer movement when being passed and overall stability is greatly improved. Was concerned about non-towing truck ride but dropping airbags to 5 psi provide quality comfort. Firestone airbags have been the #1 investment I've made in my truck and suggest to others. 665891

  • Air Compressor Kit Recommendation for Use with Firestone Ride Rite Kit that Can Inflate Tires
  • Since you are going to install the Firestone Ride Rite kit part # F2582 the best solution I have for you would be a compressor kit that has an air tank built into it plus an air chock so that you can inflate a tire if needed. For that we have the Firestone Air Command II part # F2168 which is a compressor kit that has that and would be a great solution. The air line is a coiled design that can expand to 25 feet in length too so it would be long enough as well.
