Suspension Enhancement for 2018 Ford F-150 Towing Trailer

Updated 03/12/2025 | Published 03/02/2025

Question:

I have a 2018 Supercrew F150 with 3.5 ecoboost. It has a lift kit installed. I tow a 20 foot Airstream and use a weight distribution hitch. When I lower the trailer ball on the hitch the back end of the truck goes down 3-4 inches. Would you recommend Sumosprings or Timbrens to help with the depression? Appreciate your response.

Hey Keith, 3-4 inches of sag when your trailer is hooked up is quite a bit. That makes me think your weight distribution system is not properly rated for the tongue weight of your trailer, your trailer is much heavier than what your truck is rated for, or your lift kit was not designed to be towing with it installed.

Now with that said for that much sag a Timbren kit like the part # TFR1504E with the correct spacers to compensate for your lift kit would be your best option. How much of a lift do you have?

Hi Jameson, I purchased the truck used and did not install the lift kit. I suspect it is lifted about 3 inches. Is the install of the Timbren easy for me to complete or does it need to be installed at an automotive shop? Thanks, Keith

@KeithL it's definitely something you could do yourself as they are not too difficult.

Hi Jameson, I took your recommendation and ordered the Timbren kit. Look forward to installing it and hitching up our Airstream. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Keith Laser
