Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Hubs and bearings were a perfect fit ! Etrailer is excellent also got tires and bearing buddies as well.

by:

Good but didnt come with axel nuts.

by:

after visiting 2 local parts stores and still not getting what I needed, I decided to use etrailer. within a couple minutes I had found exactly what i needed. I took all the stuff back to the auto parts store and bought from etrailer for way cheaper! Parts fit perfectly and customer service was excellent. First rate business all the way, in my opinion. Very happy with my etrailer experience.

works great after one year of moderate to heavy use. No complaints!

Ordered two replacement hubs for my 5x8 trailer. Sort of guessed at correct hubs. No much info remaining on trailer (make, model, etc.). All I knew was that they were 5 on 4.5 Dexter hubs and the number 08-259 stamped on the old hub. There are a number of dexter hubs on etrailer and info on them is sparse so just made my best guess based on the application of trailer use.
George J upgraded my shipment from 5-7 to 3-5 day express shipping at no additional charge and the package was received on the exact day estimated. Thanks for the special treatment.
Unfortunately UPS delivered the package next to a tree in the middle of a rain storm so when I got to package a few hours later it fell apart in my arms.Fortunately inside the individual boxes the parts were in a plastic bags with only a minimal amount of water dampness inside.
Would I use etrailer again?...Absolutely! Correct parts received, packaged well and fast shipping. Great job!

Replaced hub on a snowbear trailer with a failed wheelbearing. Hub set included everything required (save your hub nut and cotter pin). Function is same as original hub, however, original hub has a full flange. Quality seems OK, however, original equipment was also a Dexter hub. Hope this wheel bearing is better than original equipment.

by:

Product arrived quickly. These were Trailer Hubs. Each hub was not restrained by packing and as they bounced around in the box. Needless to say the dust caps were dented to the point where they could not be used. I used the old ones instead.

by:

Great hubs at a great price. Fully loaded minus the grease. Mine shipped with a double lip seal. Not sure if it was supposed to as I ordered extra seals because it wasn't supposed to have a double lip seal. The good news is now I have a spare set of seals.

by:

These worked great for my sledbed 4 place trailer
Replaced all 4 & bought 1 spare

by:

Just what I needed. Everything was great except dust cap did not fit properly.

Still great, no problems.

by:

Product arrived on time. Being a rookie at changing out the hub and bearing on my trailer would have been nice to have assembly instructions included or a video on the website on how this product goes together.

by:

I called first and talked to a real person who help to confirm that this part was a universal replacement for my axel. Parts arrived quicker than anticipated - and assembled like new. Thanks E-trailer.

by:

Everything fit and functioned as expected. The one issue I found was the quality of the dust cap. I reused the original cap. It was more solidly built than its replacement, as typical of today's products.

by:

Products cheap and shipping fastI have been constructing a custom trailer and did an internet search for parts. etrailer was the cheapest overall that I could find. After placing my order, it arrived in only two days. Amazing!

by:

Very happy with these hubs. Perfect fit. Arrived right on time and exactly as described. Really appreciate all the info on the website as well! Will definitely purchase from etrailer.com again.

by:

Received package on time and it nstalled the new hub on my trailer in less than 30 minutes. I am very pleased with the fit and quality.

by:

This product was exactly as described on the website. On line product information/demos are very helpful. I placed the order by phone as there were concerns on ordering the correct parts. Customer service rep Bill E. was excellent in satisfying my concerns and processing the order efficiently. Prices are the best I could find.

by:

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Hub For Small Trailer
Ok, I can help you out here in regards to if you can get new hubs for larger wheels and tires for your small trailer, but hubs are quite specific fits for a trailer spindle, so it's going to take some measuring or knowing the hubs you have in order to determine if you can get a replacement or know if the 5-lug hubs you mentioned are the same as your 5-lug hubs. To determine if there is a replacement hub available, there's a number of things you will need to know. First, you need to know...

  • Is there a Trailer Wheel that Fits a 4 on 3 Inch Bolt Pattern
First, let's make sure that you are measuring the bolt pattern correctly. I have included a link to an article showing how to measure for bolt pattern. On a wheel or hub that has an even number of studs or holes all you have to do is measure from the center of one hole or stud straight across the center of the wheel to the center of the one across from it. If that is how you are measuring and still come up with a 4 on 3 bolt pattern then we do not have a wheel that will fit. But you may...

Check out the FAQ articles I attached on trailer wheels and tires. Or, if you like, you can email me back with the size of your tire and I will help you pick out a correct wheel.

  • How to Determine the Bolt Hole Pattern on a Trailer Wheel
The Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-259-5UC1, has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. To determine the bolt pattern of your trailer wheels, there is a simple way to measure. If there is an EVEN number of lugs, you will measure center to center on lugs directly across from each other. For example, if the wheel has 6 lugs and the center to center distance between 2 that are across from each other is 5-1/2 inches, then the bolt patter is 6 on 5-1/2. If there is an ODD number of lugs, you will measure...

Since this has the same bolt pattern as your wheels it would match up with them as well. The star shape of this hub will not matter in comparison to the round style you currently have.

  • Replacement Trailer Hub with L44649 Inner and Outer Bearings and 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
You have already done the hard part, which is getting the bearing numbers. With those numbers and the bolt pattern you have provided, we have 2 possible hubs that could work as replacements, depending on the trailer wheel size. If your trailer has 12 inch to 15 inch wheels, then you can use the Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-258-5UC1, that you have referenced. If your trailer has 8 to 10 inch wheels, you will need Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-259-5UC1.

  • Replacing Trailer Hubs on Loadrite Trailer
From the dimensions you gave me, the Trailer Hub Assembly for 2000 lb Axle, 5 on 4-1/2 should fit. It has a 6-1/2 inch diameter hub flange. I measured the depth, and it is 4-1/4 inches (2 inches on each side of the flange, and the flange itself is 1/4 inch thick). If you take a look at your bearings, they should have a number stamped on them. This is the easiest way to match up a replacement hub. The hub I am suggesting fits L44649 bearings.

If you can't find the reference numbers or if they aren't readable, you'll need to use a highly accurate measuring device to measure the journal surfaces of the spindle where the inside diameter of the bearings ride. • Adding Larger Wheels to Trailer Hub Assembly with Same Bolt Pattern
You can add larger wheels to a trailer as long as you have the same bolt pattern and enough room for the larger size. The main clearance issues we find when putting larger wheels on a trailer is from the top of the tire to the fender and from the inside wall of the tire to the trailer wall/frame. Also you will want to keep the weight capacity in mind. Larger tires will typically have a higher weight rating. Tires with a higher weight rating will not increase the load carrying capacity...
