Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Bought a used ATV trailer and needed a spare tire. Decided to replace both old wheels & tires with new, so needed to mount the 2 old wheels. This Tire Carrier fit perfectly on my trailer, start to finish I spent just 30 minutes total mounting the carrier & then the spares. A couple of notes, both 3" long & 4" long frame mounting bolts are provided, so the carrier would fit a wide range of trailer frames (mine was 2"x2"). Supplied tire nuts are 3/4 inch; trailer lug nuts are 13/16 but this was not an issue as I use an old-fashioned 4-way wheel wrench, which accommodates both size nuts. As mounted, both spares are perhaps 1/2" further out than the fenders, so a much better fit than I expected -- and no problem with the standard 5x4-1/2" wheel pattern, fit perfectly. Delivered promptly and zero issues, I will certainly use E-trailer again. 669418

I have two little Honda CT-90's, and a couple of months ago I purchased a small utility trailer to haul them around on. I've been really concerned because there was no place for a spare tire. Problem solved. I bought your Fulton Hi-Mount spare tire rack and had it installed in about 30 minutes. The little 12" tire fits on the rack perfectly. THANKS! 162280

I have a Haulmark cargo trailer. The frame between the "box" and coupling is about 12 inches off the ground - when I put this bracket on and mounted the spare tire on it, it was only about 4 inches off the ground, which worried me. I really wanted to mount the tire on the frame, on the front of the "box". I was able to put this bracket on the front of the cargo box, with the backing plates "sideways" inside the box, with the mounting bolts on each side of a frame member. I put it so that if anything gave way, the frame would support the spare tire and after almost a year, the tire is still about 1/2 inch off the frame like it was the day I installed this. What I like is that the tire is up and out of the way, it's easy to dismount if I need it, and it's obviously well off the road. Well made and does what I needed it to do. My only caution is to make sure it will hold the tire up high enough if you choose to put it on the trailer frame. 315970

Comments
My review is still valid - I like it the way that I installed it - the tire is solid on the bracket.

This is a well constructed Fulton Hi-Mount offset spare tire carrier for my 1956 trailer. It fit perfectly on may 3" main channel with parts to spare. The shorter bolts may be useful elsewhere. There is plenty of ground clearance for my 5 hole 8" spare tire with plenty of clearance from the bumper and trailer jack. This took me about 30 minutes to install on the side yard of my garage. It may have taken me longer due to the need to locate the tools I would need for the installation but I was in no rush. With the spare tire mounted high and aft of the tongue hitch it feels very secure for highway travel. I may need to fine a way to lock the tire to the trailer to deter theft but I am happy with this unit so far. 299721

Received and mounted the tire carrier today, took all of about 8 minutes. Works great. Did not want to mount on the tongue area, I felt it would be in the way when I power load the boat and climb down to winch it forward. I mounted on the side and it does not stick out any more than the tires so it won't interfere when I back in my garage. I wish the product came with a cable lock. Boat is an 18 ft. Nitro 200805

I needed a way to carry a spare tire on my ATV trailer before my luck ran out and I got stranded with a flat. This works perfectly. It's well contructed, and should last for the life of the trailer. The description allowed me to be sure it would fit, and customer service has been very good. 368694

I ordered this Fulton Spare Tire Mount to attach the 8 inch wheels as spares. I found that when I mounted the 8 inch rim on the support, the rim came in contact with the support arm and didnot allow the wheel to make a flush contact with the backing plate where the two bolts hold the wheel to the mount. I made a spacer to fit between the wheel and backing plate and used longer bolts to anchor the wheel to the support. This should be noted in the catalog that the support was not built for the 8 inch wheel. The unit would fit a larger wheel ok. Just take a new 8 inch wheel and try to fit it flush on the support. The support and the wheel were of good quality. The only problem is the arm between the two plates should be three inchs longer and the problem would be solved. Sam Johnson 45321

Listed in the specs is a note that the carrier should only be used with 10 inch or larger wheels.

My husband put the spare tire holder on the boat trailer yesterday 9/17/17. He said it took him no time at all and was an easy installation. He is impressed with the quality, heaviness of the bolts and metal, etc. Ordering and shipping time was great. Do not know of anything else we need for our boat trailer at this time, but will not hesitate to order from etrailer.com again. Thanks for an excellent order experience and your follow-up. For your trailer dolly, I recommend the MaxxTow MaxxHaul Dual Pull Trailer Dolly - 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - Steel - 600 lbs # MT70881 because it has the pneumatic all-terrain tires and the handle and stand to make it easy to operate and store when not in use. • Trailer Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation for Aluminum Side Wall on Utility Trailer
For your Aluma Utility trailer with aluminum side walls, I recommend the Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier # FSTC1000301. This spare tire carrier is zinc plated so it won't have galvanic corrosion issues with your aluminum side wall and it has two plates to hold the back side of the carrier and disperse that pressure. Aluminum is a softer metal, so you will want to be careful when tightening to make it snug and yet not over-tighten and deform the side wall. If you want to make sure...

Since the frame on your Featherlite 3110 is mostly covered you wouldn't really have any other option but to bolt Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier # FSTC1000301 to the outside of the frame at the front of the trailer.
